After doing a lot of research, i finally found that this guitar only truly be silent when you remove all the strings and start playing..
@atv-com4 жыл бұрын
Yup! You hit the nail in the head with that one lol. In fact don’t play it at all and then it’s completely silent. But if it falls over and crashes to the ground, it won’t be silent at that moment? And to add to the debate... if a guitar falls and no one is there to hear it... does it make any sound? Look here the cold hard truth... Of course these aren’t silent. They are just quiet unless plugged in and great for personal practice times... but I love all the different thoughts.. good or bad.. this is what the comments section is for. Thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment.

All I want is something I can play in the basement at night that no one will hear on the second floor. from your unplugged demo of the SLG, i consider it 'silent' because you can emulate full acoustic guitar body sounds through your headphones...with minimal unplugged natural sound of the strings....good for practice even at night, without annoying your housemates or neighbors. i wouldn't take the word 'silent' literally...it is a full sounding acoustic guitar when plugged in and when unplugged on headphone mode have minimal sound just like an unplugged electric guitar.

Random thought while watching your video, I wish someone had a pedal that made and electric sound as close to an acoustic as these do. Never thought about how they are basically electric guitars with good effects on board.
@atv-com5 ай бұрын
I totally get where you’re coming from but it works the other way round. There are pedals that make electric guitars sound like acoustics but not the other way. But in this case it’s really about the strings. The body on a full acoustic obviously is the main part of its sound. But in the case of the SLG, not so much. But if you put electric guitar strings onto this guitar it would sound more like electric guitar with the added bonus of the acoustic pickups and preamp. BUT…. Then you have to think that you can’t really do that on the nylon strung version you would miss the point and… it’s not built for that sort of string tension, so I wouldn’t advise it…. Also, with an electric you must take the pickups, which are VERY different from the bridge transducer and body transducer with the preamp on the SLGs. Electric pickup are so vastly different that putting acoustic stings like phosphor bronze etc just would be quite right…. So, either way round…. You’re caught between a ‘ROCK’ & ‘ROLL’ and maybe a hard case… Clear as mud? Maybe a follow up video on this is warranted. What do you all think.? Thanks for stoppin n poppin in. Great question and point, 🎉
@freedom2ignite5 ай бұрын
@@atv-com Great points! I keep talking myself in and out of this guitar because I have electric guitars. I love my nylon acoustic but don’t get to play those as much as much because of the in room sound. I’ve tired the sim pedals and just realized thanks to you why they don’t work as well. The most surprising thing to me is how well the nylon sounds with overdrive and distortion in some videos.

I would like yamaha to put a soundhole in there to amplify the sound naturaly somewhat, and a small dual speaker setup in that hole so one can play out with these without an amp or headphones. You can tape an mp3 player to it for background music, and have the guitar sound amplified through the speaker. And efx. Essentially a small mixer with aptxhd bluetooth For combo jack Inputs for lossless quality for Mic/phone mp3 player background music and of course built in efx/ drum machine and practice loops/ looper. And this will of course be an audio interface for your computer or phone or tablet

Additionally, would you consider this guitar to be suitable for beginners? Thanks.

I almost didn't even look into these guitars because they are marketed so heavily with the "silent" thing in their name etc... But eventually I saw more about them and really want the SLG nylon now to use with pedals/effects with its slightly different clean sound which I think will work better to make unconventional music than a pickup on a traditional classical guitar.

Thanks for review, but I got a question. Previously I already had SLG 200s, but I sold it after I moved to a good isolated flat and lived alone. Now live with my girlfriend and I think to buy it again. The issue is that my flat has 2 rooms separated by WC/Bad (Room 1 - WC/Bad - Room 2), but there are no doors at all. Kitched on the second floor also without any door between. If I remember SLG 200s was pretty silent, but metal strings are not silent. It would 100% help with closed door, but I think it will be still noticable in my situation in case I'm in room 1 and my girlfriend sleeping in room 2. This is why I'm taking a look on a Nylon version and I wanted classical guitar anyways :) Questio is, do you think that slg 200 N version will help in my case in comparison with slg 200 S? Probably if I will hard strumming, no, but if soft fingerstyle playing? Just learning something like tremolo or training songs like game of thrones, last of us etc...? Thanks for any info! :) p.s. its less important, but interesting point aswell - Do you know if this guitar exist with max 46mm neck? Normally I play steel strings and 45mm neck. So 52mm would be probably overkill and dont know if I will adapt to such differences here and there all the time.
@atv-com6 ай бұрын
Well yeah this is certainly a good idea for your case.. But If you are more used to a steel strung guitar the sound and feel is very different. This is a classical guitar at heart (as modern as it looks). I does look exactly as the steel version from afar, but its when you get up close that you notice the differences. The sound will be so different than what you are used to when strumming. Nylon strings react very differently when strummed and do not (ever) give the same tone. As for the playing experience, although better IMHO. Again is so far away from steel. Although I would love to tell you that yeas it's exactly what you need in your situation. I can't. It would certaily tick a lot of your boxes but it would put a hard X on many others. I hate to be the one to say it buuut.... You really need to try one for yourself to fully know for sure. Not the answer you wanted to hear I know but I used to manage a guitar shop back in the day and I also worked in fitted suit retail and tailoring and they are the same thing. Guitars , like suits. Should always be tried on and made to measure. I hope this has helped in some small way, and thanks for your question and keeping the conversation going.. It's great that after a few years there are still more cases of people wanting these great instruments... Thanks again.

Did people really think that they would be entirely silent? You can't make a guitar entirely silent. Even without a sound chamber, the strings still vibrate. Sound waves are vibrations. It's going to make a sound. Really wanna get this guitar either way. Looks amazing and is versatile. Not looking forward to dropping $750 for the classical model (I prefer the wider neck and nylon strings) but it'll last me for years to come.

There is also thing called engineering. They shouldn't have called it "silent" super misleading. People living in apartments with family members can't play any of these guitars.
@brumm36534 жыл бұрын
They are electric guitars with piezo pickups and build-in preamp and effects. That's what they really are. The S version plays and sounds like a steel-string acoustic, the N is more like a classical guitar. They are *named* "Silent Guitar". A guitar that is completely silent (i.e. making no noise when played) is physically not possible. A vibrating string will always make at least some sound.
@atv-com4 жыл бұрын
B Rumm actually that is a false observation as an acoustic and a classical guitar both have sound holes, where these do not. Therefore they can produce amplified volume on their own. Whereas these do not. But they are still not silent so to speak. But because on their own they are not amplified in any way, that is why they are called silent. Thanks for watching and continuing the debate 👍🏻

I wouldn’t say these are electric guitars at all. They play and sound like acoustic guitars. They are very different. An electric guitar feels quite different in a side by side comparison.

Something else you missed. Can you play it without the top bout attached? I would hardly call it a "travel" guitar if you can't perform with it without an amp.

WillForsberg thanks for watching and to answer your questions, I have not so much missed but of course it doesn’t answer for your particular use case. I did say that it has a headphone output. Sylvain Babin I think you have misunderstood the reasons for this video. 1. I was asked. 2. I was being sarcastic! Plus it was fun to do

Not to be funny here, but I'm sure you understand sarcasm, satire and irony. These videos after the very first one are all about how there is no real way of them being completely silent. These videos (other than the first) were never meant to be taken too seriously. I thought I'd got that across in my manner. I guess my sarcasm is far subtler than I have always imagined it to be... Thanks for continuing the conversation. This is what KZbin should be about...
