This is one of the best reviews for music gear I've seen. Addressed every thing I would ask haha

Sounds great for latin/jazz, you've got some nice chops too.
@malonedrum4 жыл бұрын
I agree, for me as mostly as jazz musician this kit does well. I struggled to really get it to sound monstrous, but honestly you can’t get bonham sounds on a tiny kit. Is what it is

Great review of this kit. All of your videos are top notch. Interesting and informative at the same time. As you have had both the Stage Custom hip and the Tama club jam mini, how would you compare the Yamaha bass drum (20 x 8) to the Tama bass drum (18 x 7). I'm interested in using it for small space gigs. Thank you very much!
@malonedrum Жыл бұрын
I think part of it is comfort, and playing what you’re used to in terms of head size, but I preferred the tama club jam mini.

Great video. As a practise kit what would you recommend ? This or something like the Sonor aq2 safari, Martini or Tama club jam.
@malonedrum3 жыл бұрын
Well it all depends on your personal tastes, but for me I would prefer something with larger diameter drums. So a Gretsch Catalina Club would be more my personal preference, but out of those you mentioned I think either this Stage Custom or the Tama Club Jam are both Great.
@tendingtropic77782 жыл бұрын
thanks for this video. doubting between this and the tama club jam. any recommendations? i mainly want to use it to play in a funk band (relatively low volume/small rooms)
@malonedrum2 жыл бұрын
I think they offer a much wider variety of different configurations and sizes within the Club Jam line. I owned that kit in the 2 piece version and probably enjoyed that more, but hard to say as I think they are both great and it's more personal preference.

How does it fair out noise wise? Is it much different to a full size stage custom?
@malonedrum3 жыл бұрын
I mean, there’s so many factors that play in to it like head choice, tuning, sticks and the actual player, but I’ve owned both and I’d say it’s not going to project nearly as much as a full sized equivalent. Does that mean you can make your drummer quieter by giving them this kit? I don’t think so, but it’s less overall noise.

Sup! Is it heavy? How it shows itself as giging kit in portability? Maybe it's better to have 16 inch or 18 inch kick with regular sizes?
@malonedrum Жыл бұрын
This is a great option, but it’s not what I’m using for gigs myself. Not too heavy, but puts out a nice sound. I have a friend who uses one pretty regularly for gigging and loves it.
@LevizanovLevDrums Жыл бұрын
@@malonedrum thx! Just thinking to buy, tama and dw are much more expensive and don't want to mess with custom drums, so this only an option ( It's sad that yamaha doesn't sell only the kick drum(
@malonedrum Жыл бұрын
@@LevizanovLevDrums I agree, just the kick would be cool. Check out Tama Club Jam

could I use a 24 inch bass drum case to them all in or should i get individual cases and put those inside bass drum case
@malonedrum3 жыл бұрын
I don’t think a 24” bass drum case would be any better than a 20”. You just need a case that’s rather deep to stack the drums on top of each other

What would be a good beginner kit?
@malonedrum3 жыл бұрын
I think it’s a little too unique as a primary kit, and for the price you’re not getting cymbals or hardware. It’s not that I think it would be a bad beginners kit, I would just recommend something a little more standard for a beginner to start on. This set feels like a second or third kit.

I wonder how this would fare compared to the DW Frequent Flyer?
@malonedrum4 жыл бұрын
I've played a frequent flyer and I prefer those sizes, but the only negative is DW tends to make things on the bulkier side in my opinion and I just would love everything on travel kit to be as light as possible.
@malonedrum4 жыл бұрын
I actually have a two-part video series on my channel of building my own travel kit from Keller shells. You should it out if you have time. it's very influenced by the frequent flyer.
