The 2022 #yamaha #Ténéré 700 World Raid gets a 23-litre tank, more weight, stiffer suspension, a new dash and a new seat, plus a host of other changes over the existing Ténéré 700. And a higher price tag.
But do the changes make the World Raid a better off-road or on-road bike than the existing Ténéré 700?
Simon Hargreaves offers his #motorcycle review from the world launch of the World Raid in Spain.

To anyone wondering: my real use fuel consumption average on the WR is always between 3,5-3,9L/100 (b-roads that is; off road and highway will consume more). That gives me a range between 500-640km. And yes ive checked the numbers after refueling and they are real. Even after riding multiple Pass roads over the Austrian/Italian/Swiss Alps over a couple of days, i was still averaging 3,6L/100. Very economical bike.

I waited and waited some more for the T7 and ultimately purchased the africa twin adventure sport- I am so glad I bought the africa twin - it is an amazing bike - lots of power, great on dirt and tarmac. Greetings from Durango Mexico 🇲🇽

Great review! This is the second review I'm watching to justify my purchase 😀 6:55 That fuel supply structure diagram was really useful, I hadn't seen it before. The comments from BikeSocial members were fair. It is indeed a shame that Yamaha didn't sort out the exhaust.

A great comprehensive review! This is a bike that I would definitely consider. I would use it as a long range tourer at times so the addition of cruise control would be nice. I couldn't care less about traction control or rider modes as they are relatively useless to me. I never use either on the two other equipped bikes that I have. The fuel tanks remind me of my KTM 990 Adventure.

I like the features of the world raid, especially the larger tank (a lot of our logging roads and such would stretch the range of the standard tank.) Like you mentioned though, i cant get past the price. In Canada it puts it next to the Africa twin which has cruise control, and even couple grand out from the 1290sar which has over double the hp.

So maybe just spend some money on upgrading the suspension of the standard T7 and still have the lightweight and reasonable seat height? Just did a 3 week adventure ride in Botswana with the T7 and fuel range never an issue and the bike handled a wide range of conditions.

It's been 3 years now and we still can't get regular T7's here in the us. They are rare as hens teeth as they say. Pretty much makes the world raid pointless for those of us in the US. I don't know what Yamaha is up to. They have either given up on the US market or it's a case of complete incompetence.

Atleast it's rare in the US. Yamaha haven't even bothered to launch it here in India while all the other big players are selling their advs.

I just couldn’t quite pull the trigger on the T7, but this bike ticks all the boxes for me. I have a XT660Z, the World Raid takes its styling from that bike when you see them side by side. Picking mine up Thursday from Inverness 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Very interesting your comments on the weight vs the Twin. Specs say it weighs 15lbs less, which for many of us is a before dinner/after dinner amount of weight. So why is it so much more flickable? My assumption based on the prior Tenere and bikes like the 890 is the lower COG means a heck of a lot more then the 15lbs difference but I am interested in your take on it!

There are one or two excellent exhaust options that tuck the can closer to the wheel as Yamaha could (and should) have done during the massive concept to market period. Then the luggage would have fitted better rather than the compromise of notching the right pannier (copying the rest) and a massive overall width. GSAs can get away with it but not the smaller bikes like this, the KTM, Aprilia etc.

It seems to be a cracking bike, but I definitely agree on the price. It encroaches too far into triumph tiger and even africa twin territory. Never mind that in terms of weight it comes to the AT mark as well. If you want a light flickable offroad monster bike, then the original T7 is good enough, if you want something for touring, some of those larger alternatives are probably better, especially with a pillion. Big tank is definitely nice though.

As always, words of wisdom from Saint Simon. Agree. It's a different category and price range. Don't think yamaha will change the frame when it is selling as well as itis currently. But, still a great bike, and still just manageable for us lightweight people. Happy travels 👍

Pricing isn’t quoted here in Australia yet. Given the base T7 is now priced to match the Standard Africa twin, we’ll probably be able to get the AT adventure sports ( manual) for the same spend as the World Raid. To my mind, that’s a big step up in well proven class & touring ability for what’s looking to be no extra.

Yeah the T7 has gone up 3 grand since I bought mine. My T7 is just a tool to get me to camping spots and I never do anything to bottom it out so I prefer the standard one. Traction control on this style of bike is a nuisance more than a benefit.

Since the release of the Transalp and the V-Strom 800,prices are around £10.500, which is now of interest to me,as i dont spend over £10k on anything (even my house was under that),an ex-demo bike is in the £9s now...tempted, with the new tank/seat arrangement, wasn't a fan of the original, though, if you bought one,its hardly depreciated in 4yrs

Hello!. Thanks for the video, it provides a lot of information. I wanted to ask if a 1.77 meter tall person could reach the ground safely on this bike, I think it would be a problem for me not to be able to reach the ground safely. Also the size of the seat... do you think it would be a good motorcycle to make long trips combining on/off roads and highways? Will your seat be comfortable enough... wide, soft? Thank you and greetings!

Good review of the new T7. The twin fillers seems excessive and gimmicky. Pity they didn’t do a rear tank like the new Ducati and get more range with less change to the original. As for price, a lot will depend on the weakening pound.

These bikes are French, Quid - Euro has been quite the same over the last decade or so, it was less than €1 back when the Ducati 999/749s were around, all the Europeans bought them up,why they are so rare in the UK today!

IMO the world raid and the triumph are different gravy, the Yam will wipe the floor with the triumph off road, it appeals to the more hard core traveller than the triumph. We've already seen with the normal t7 that loads are used off road and get beaten up a bit ... triumph for me is a more road based adventure bike ... regardless of its marketing

Modern adventure bikes tend to look like 2 wheeled versions of bloated SUV's... Yamaha Tenere 700 is the only Adventure bike that I could consider going on adventure with. I also love the fact that it has a limited amount of electronics. If they also had the option to dump all of the electronics BS it would be the perfect adventure bike. I pray they never add traction control etc. Packing your 1290 what not with everything and the kitchen sink makes no sense to me. And if you drop it, dig yourself in the mud or wedge it between something fully loaded....then you try picking it up. There is a spiritual and practical reason why we travel light. The T7 seems to find the balance in that.

Thank you for the 📽 video. You touched many known T7 problems. The windshield is not adjustable. The Exhaust pipe attached to the frame it is a BIG PROBLEM . No heated grips. Center of Gravity is high. Especially for a average height person. I do not believe the changes justify the 👎💰 price.

Heavier than 890 Adv R and the 901 Norden, even when tank size is considered. Only 3 kg lighter than the Duc Desert-x. Low weight for a twin was one of the T700 forces, now she’s a fatty. Like the dual tanks though. Reminds me of the Dr 750 Big i had decades ago, and my 950 Adv..

If it is to gain weight, I would prefer to gravitate towards a GS boxer, triumph 900 rally pro, Ducati desertX, or Ducati multistrada 950 V2. Yamaha should have produced a lighter version, like a 500cc twin. That is where the market is lacking.

?? why do you guys all say different things. You say it feels heavier ?? others say you can't feel the difference. I think these videos are really for us to get a feel for the look of the bike and the general spec, not your likes or dislikes of the bike. As for the comments on price of the standard T7 vs the world raid, it's not T7 £8300 current vs £11,800. It's current T7 £10k approx and world raid £11,800 with even better deals out there. The difference is £1800 and well worth it, as the bike is aimed at those that want to travel longer distances and travel harder on road with the higher screen protection .The upgraded suspension offers a far superior ride off road and as for the lcd display comment ?? what..

Isn’t this just a GS/GSA imitation? A heap more money for basically a larger tank and more suspension travel? £12K for a 70hp relatively sedate and fairly porky bike isn’t particularly attractive. And 47mpg out of a 700cc parallel twin is just rubbish. Thumbs down from me.
