they are great I agree...mind you...could also take the word Yamaha out and it would still make sense ;)

Really nice work! I have an SY77. Yamaha really pulled out all the stops when they designed this synth. It wasn't the hit they were hoping for, but what a powerhouse. I remember when it came out at my local music store. I wanted one but they were like 3k. No way I could afford one.
@silverlight2004db4 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Me the same...haha...my mouth was watering for one when it first came out but all I could afford at the time was a s/h dx7. Then in 2005 I bought the TG77 s/h for a similar price to a s/h dx7! Then i had to put it into storage for 12 years before even getting to use it...I sold many synths over that time but I hung onto this and finally in the last couple of years I've been able to start using it and it was worth the wait! (30 odd years). Dave.

I have Valhalla vintage verb, which I'd also give the thumbs up to. Not sure how similar or different it is to the PCM80, no doubt it has its own sound, and its all a matter of taste anyway!

What can I Say 'Silverlight2004db'.......... after more than decade.... I own a near mint SY77!!! AND A REFACE DX. Was not expecting the purchase what so ever and drove down the coast of California to almost Mexico to get it! After two decades and messing with the FM8 FM7..... Never again.... EVER!!! New Ears, a far better Engineer, and FM programmer at this point, and a 78' British console... an Expensive hardware Effects processor.... and Presto... All the attack presence, nuances.... never found in the "PLUGZ" in mere minutes (OKAY after -half a day- of patches written). This Video inspired me to re-think what was missing all those years,... I had Lexicons, the ENSONIQ DP PRO24 Hardware DSP, and really good DAC's......??? What was missing was the real synth.
@silverlight2004db3 жыл бұрын
And it gets better...the real synth sounds even better in the same room than on YT too...great stuff!!

Plugins have their place but logic tells you that software programs cannot truly replicate the hardware they emulate...i mean...the software has the limitations of the hardware of the computer they're on...and that hardware has nothing on the hardware of pre-millenium synthesizers and processors...

Real synth! Not the pathetic plugs kids play today! Man, this sounds really good, evolution keeps the ear interested and tones/spaces are very human/wide. Hear hear folks... that's what happens when YOU press that EDIT key and do the work!!! Cheers!!!

Good stuff. How is it to program this one? I have a Kurzweil K2000 and I'm looking for something kind of similar to the VAST engine.
@silverlight2004db4 жыл бұрын
There's a lot involved...eg there are 6 amplitude envelopes for each element (one for each operator) and you can have up to 4 elements per voice. And each envelope is multistaged with different looping and scaling options. So it can be slow-going and require concentration to get good results...maybe similar to VAST? I don't know...i've heard that vast is pretty complex and deep so maybe yes

Hey! Nice video! Are these sounds from any soundbanks or collection? Or you created them? Thanks
@silverlight2004db4 жыл бұрын
Thank you...these are all self-created sounds to one degree or another, usually starting off from a pre-existing patch and sometimes just breaking it down and messing around with it till I come up with new sounds I like and taking the results in different directions...or sometimes with a specific sound already in mind that i'm trying to get to...usually with mixed results though...put it this way...I aim to come up with a 64 voice soundset to make available publicly eventually...sometime in 2020...present situation is allowing me to spend more time on it...

I would take into serious consideration that everything you listen to on KZbin is very much highly compressed and not even the CD quality audio much less 24-bit 96k or above quality audio. I have owned the Sy and the tg77 more than once and what I have to say about it is that as someone who has programmed FM for much more than 15 years it's a worthwhile endeavor depending on your aesthetic sonically
@silverlight2004db3 жыл бұрын
yes i think these particular synths (and also maybe the FS1R although i have only heard it online) have a very high sonic quality...FM synthesis already has a certain 'pureness' about it and these AFM machines have that plus a very strong and powerful sound, moreso than other FM incarnations...plus they are simply very powerful synthesizers. you are right i think also that this synth sounds way better 'in the room' than it does on youtube
