Yamaha Tracer 9GT engine tapping noise is this an issue?
Any actual mechanical minded people here ?
Every service I keep mentioning this tapping noise to the Yamaha dealership and they keep saying is normal but I cannot get to replicate the noise when the engine is hot as obviously I don’t push the bike to the dealership, and they say the noise should go after 3 seconds but obviously doesn’t.
If I rev the engine the noise goes away,
From my mechanical knowledge, I think the oil does not get up top quick enough and the tappers make this noise, however this does not explain why is only on the left side of the engine 🤔
Has anyone else experienced this ?

Not a nice sound to hear as makes you worried, however, is normal until the engine gets hot as it takes some time for the oil to get up top of the engine, when cold the oil is a bit thick and takes a minute or so to thin itself. Nothing to be worried there. however, make sure you have a warranty, just in case.

Mine does it, so i investigated. Its the camshaft tensioner. Apparently it stsrts from 4 to 7k miles.

I see. Mine does it too, but it is different, more muted in my opinion. 10 sec at least.

Nothing to worry about if its quiet when gets to Temp its fine if still doing it when up to temp then you have problem with valve clearance or camshaft or camshaft rockers lifters etc

It's just building up oil pressure. As it thickens when cold

@@alinwithther6 My motorcycle has 94000 km. Next week I will check the valves, cam chain and cam chain tensioner. If I find something I will let you know. Have the same noise.

Cam shaft tensioner common on every yamaha cp3 engine. Yamaha says that's no reason yo worry about.

Mine is not as loud but after awhile the sound is gone, but was told its normal

@@hairull1988 thank you mate 👍 Same here, is only when I start the bike from cold, and if I rev a bit the sound will go a at from start but if I just leave it at idle it takes so long to go away, longer than what dealership is saying but I couldn’t replicate the noise when at the dealership as the engine was already hot 🤔🤔 Will suck it and see but next year when is due to renew the finance will see what is on the market 🤔

Un amic a avut un Tracer 9 de nou, pe care voiam sa-l cumpar de la el. La ~36k km, cu revizii facute la ~6k km si jocul supapelpr facut pe la 25k, suna mult mai curat decat a ta, adica nu tacanea nici rece, nici calda, doar batea oala de ambreiaj, boala lor am inteles.

@@ionescugeorge2003 🤔 e ciudat sincer deoarece mulți spun ca e normal alții ca nu 🤔 Nici mie nu mi se pare normal să sune așa și dacă ii dau gaz foarte puțin zgomotul dispare , sigur e ceva în neregula părerea mea, chestia e ca nu pot demonstra la dealer decât cu video … ca până ajung la ei deja e cald motorul🤔 Mă rog, nu mai e mult până trebuie schimbată 🤣🤣 alt model sau alt brand cine știe 🤔

@@alinwithther6 Daca ai timp, cand se mai raceste vremea, las-o sa se raceasca dupa ce ajungi. Am testat un 9GT la dealer si nici ala nu tacanea la rece deloc si avea cateva mii de km.
