Yamaha TRBX174EW bass guitar demo play

I’m stuck between this exact model/color and an Ibanez. I know Yamaha makes solid instruments. How are you liking it?

RBX has always been a good one from Yamaha, no complaints. The difference between a similarly priced Ibanez P/J bass and the Yamaha is the P pickup specifically. Yamaha follows the way Fender does it with bass-side-forward, treble-side-back. Ibanez flips their P pickup with bass-side-back, treble-side-forward. It's a small difference between Yamaha and Ibanez, but if you specifically rest your finger on that pickup during play, then it's a big deal because the position of where your finger rests will be significantly different.

Thanks, much appreciated. What kind of difference would we be talking about? Higher/lower pitch for lack of better knowledge on my part? Because as a complete newbie I will definitely be resting my thumb on the pickup.

@@Mario-uz9bh It's not a sonic difference you can hear but a feel difference. Look at the middle pickup of the P/J Yamaha and then the P/J Ibanez. Yamaha has the bass side of the P pickup physically mounted more forward and the Ibanez with its flipped pickup mounted further back. If you rest your thumb on that pickup, it will *_physically_* be in a different position depending on which bass you choose, that's the difference.
