Decided to turn up last minute at a local race meeting on my 1992 Yamaha WR500.....happy days

How it lasted 10 years in the desert??it’s air cooled doesn’t that effect the piston???in what temperatures you were and what the mixing ratio???

Rode it in 35 - 105 degree weather did not matter. 3 oz per gallon 102 octane av gas. motul 800 off-road 2t. Bike was tweaked 504 cc millennium plated cyl. Cyl head squish bad modified 40 millimeter kehin off of kx 500. 16 - 44 gearing teraflex 150 rear 5 psi. 105 mph bike. Race tech suspension bla bla. I loved hauling ass thru Des. But at 59 decided time to slow down.

Sic old bike. You were ripping. I had 92 myself around 2001. It had so much torque and awesome top speed. Did it all up, stripped frame then polished and got yamaha blue see through powdercoat applied. Spewing I sold it for $1500 back then. Now they're worth a fortune. Would have still had if I didn't fall on hard times. Avagud1

Great bike just a liittle heavy. But nice wide ratio box like an it 490.. i have yo add i was incorrect about the wide ratio. News to me it had a yz box not an IT

It is a nice bike tbf, ugly but in a nice way. The gearbox is the same as the YZ though 😉

Wow i just looked that up surprise,,,yz box. I remmember my kx felt like it had a lower top speed and a taller first gear than the wr i rode in 94. I dont think the wr is an ugly bike . Most were sold over here with full road registration indicators and lights.. finding a ADR compliant wr 500 for sale is harder than finding gold.🤣

YZ490's are odd. A buddy of mine and I bought 1986 YZ490's new. Mine hauled ass, was a real open class weapon. His was a pinging stone. Yamaha must of had horrible quality control in the port timing and squish band QC at the time. Sane thing happened to me in 1973 with two RT3MX bikes. My YZ got a license plate, and beat street bikes too.

Yes wr is totally different they were Jem's I'm a 4 stroke rider Honda but I grew up seeing these bikes my cuzin had one of these I was still riding a 80cc then but to me this bike was ultimate big bore 2 strokes are wicked

Looks like fun. I know where 2 are in perfect condition. They are twins and at a local shop on display. I should ask how much they want for them, but I am holding out for an '86 CR500..

Even though its down on power compared to the other Open-Class bikes of the time, nobody should be able to out-pull you on a straight... Besides race gas to keep it in 1 piece, what mods were done?

64hp stock... nobody had more than that at that time! i ran mine on pump gas and never even fouled the stock plug! ... only failure was top gear one day.. i did miss top gear wheelies!

Somehow an employee from my work had one, and I got 2,000 for it. Don’t know how I found someone with it, and the original title and owners manual. I would say I stole mine as I’ve seen just stock fuel tanks and jugs go for at least 1,000.

@@thesuspensionguru Um, the camera work sucks toilet water, numb nutts. Ex pilot, ex 500cc racer, love riding classic early 80s gs 1100 streeters, so cmon man! The camera work is utter crap.😎
