The 82Z is definitely clearer. The 875 which I love has that Rollins sound. I think it depends on how original the player wants to sound. The Rollins tone doesn't work for everybody. The 82Z sounds like a lot of others but its up the player. I had a 875 soprano and it was the best horn i ever had new. Im still a Mark VI man. The Yamaha Custom was originally a Mk VI copy

I had the pleasure of testing the very 1st 82 Atelier tenor that arrived here in the UK. WOWWWWWWW, most resonant free horn I everrrr blew. Had 4 Z's myself, the new version is just even better. Amazinggggg

To my ear the 82z is a dryer sound and the 875 is a sweeter one

Someone somewhere said the 82 is like Lester Young and the 875 is like Sonny Rollins. (Or Coleman Hawkins if you wanna be more historical about it.). I don’t know if that’s true or hyperbole but it stuck with me.

Would have liked to hear the 82z with a v1 neck. The c1 has a much smaller sound

Is that Simons personal gold plated neck on the 875?

J'ai essayer les 2 et le 82Z Edition a un son un peu moins brillant (plus feutré) et semble légèrement plus léger, pour ces 2 facteur je choisi celui ci

Hi - We don't stock that specific strap (we rarely get asked for metal hook straps nowadays) but I believe it's by BG France, here is a link to their strap options: www.dawkes.co.uk/woodwind-accessories/saxophone-accessories/saxophone-strap If you wanted to see the full range Dawkes offer, there is a link to those here: www.dawkes.co.uk/woodwind-accessories/saxophone-accessories/saxophone-strap

My custom Z has the G1 neck. I was looking to change to the V1, but now I am wondering if I should go with the C1? Do they both provide the same level of volume? Could I also add the neck screw. I am not ready to buy a new Custom Z, but I would like to upgrade my Z as much as I can.

The 82Z sounds stiff and not very resonant.

I think that out of the box, 82Z Atelier is less versatile than the 875EX, but it is more controllable for what it is aimed to: the jazz. If you listen to the sub-tones Simon is producing with the 82Z Atelier, they are more nuanced and mellower. It is everything Selmer Mark 6 tin bucket ever aspired to be.
