The relief is designed to provide a shortcut for exhaust gas and water and prevent rough idle and stalling conditions. On this particular model (F6C) conveniently the pivoting area of the upper casing uses this relief cooling water to keep the exhaust cool, the water you are seeing is simply exiting the last region to be cooled. It is possible that you may notice exhaust gases mixed with the water also. We recommend contacting your local Authorised Yamaha Dealer with any further questions.

SAFETY SUGGESTION. When you transport it in the back of your vehicle, dog it down to a tie point; if you have an accident, this will keep it from joining you in the driver or passenger seat--not good as we both know. Thanks for all the info.

Hi 2412ethan, We have investigated your description to accurately identify your concern. We acknowledge the areas you have described to have water exiting and can understand your concerns and enquiry. However this is the area of the "exhaust relief valve". It is manufactured so as not to restrict the flow of exhaust gas from the engine when the lower section of the outboard is submerged beneath the water.

Hi...thanks for video, but I have slightly different problem....I bought 6hp from 2012 very little driven...2 days went completely without problem and then suddenly today in full throttle drive went into even higher spinning as if it fall in neutral and boat slowed down....engin is starting without problem...on lower throttle it goes well....only thing I did was I changed propell before this ride....could that be this? The propell is older type, but of course fits to it....sounds like nonsense that it could be this 🤔

I run a 6 hp 2 stroke on a 3 meter fiberglass boat, it pushes the boat to 30 kmh.

Does anyone out there know how to attach a hose to this engine to flush it? I have the 4hp version of this engine on my sailboat and would love to flush it but it is not possible to take it off the boat because the boat stays in the water all season. Does anyone know how flushing can be done without removing the engine? Thanks.

My only other option is to keep changing oil until it goes clear but I don't like running bad oil thru my motor keep in mind this is the single spark plug F6 series not the heavier one I would actually prefer 2 cylinders got the motor has been awesome to me open till the accident I flush it out right away the same day so no damage was done

Is there a way to drain the oil..I on a f6 i am having trouble finding a way to drain the oil..i have had to pump it out in stead of draining all of the oil... does anyone have the answer to this I had a incident where a Jon Boat Stern gave out motor went under I pickled it right away and it runs but the oil coming back milky after 2 changes I'm not familiar with this motor and I'm most Outboards I know there is a boat where you could drain all of the oil. Also there is an oil filter I sure as hell can I find I realized fuel filter that has not been an issue please if someone out there knows I would appreciate a reply it is a 4-stroke F6 Yamaha only a couple years old thank you very much

Search for a video titled: "How to Perform an Oil Change on your Yamaha 6HP Outboard Motor", then pull the pull start rope a few times (without starting the engine) to clear the old oil out of the oil pump and change the filter. Milky yellow oil means water is mixing with the oil which is a serious mechanical problem like a leaking head gasket.
