In Scotland we have the "Kellas" cat thought to be a cross breed of the Scottish Wildcat and domestic cats. A preserved specimen exits in Aberdeen University Biology building. The cat is black, long legged and would be twice the size of a domestic cat. Since the Iriomote cat is equal in size to a domestic cat there is no doubt that interbreeding could occur on such a small island.

Valid point as well. *Feral cats and Iriomote cats could hybridize, as Asian Leopard Cats were crossed with domestic cats to create the Bengal cat* exotic breed (F1 Bengal cats are known to get *bigger than both leopard cats and domestic cats* due to their hybrid vigor) and the *offspring in the Iriomote wilderness could exhibit hybrid vigor, especially considering the homogeneity of the Iriomote cat due to its millennia of isolation and high genetic diversity in domestic cats.* *But at the same time, I would imagine the locals of Iriomote to be familiar with any such hybrids* and what they look like to know whether or not it is what they are seeing in their forests. *I still think Iriomote needs to be searched to discover the truth of it.* Also, please check out my previous *video that I made on Kellas Cats!*

It should be noted that even though Iriomote is geographically close to Taiwan, its mammalian fauna is very poor. There are no deer, no barking deer, no serow, no hare, no monkey, and no small to mid-size carnivore other than Iriomote leopard cat. In fact, it should have been impossible even for leopard cats to sustain a population, since there are no native rodents before human colonization (but fortunately they did thanks to the island's rich herpetofauna and freshwater fish). It's extremely unlikely for clouded leopards to get by on this small island with little else to eat other than boars. I think it could be a bit more believable if anyone argues there might be Iriomote Fishng Cat, but its range is distant and its tail is short.

A). Hunting must be banned from the island. B). Feral and domestic cats should be banned from the island or neutered. C) A survey and research effort using trail cams etc should be undertaken to assess the population and habitat requirements D) All habitat should be protected.

Hunting period is from November 15th to February 15th following year. Ryukyu wild boar hunted in Iriomote Island is cherished for its especially good taste.

Yeah hunting isn’t the issue they just shouldn’t be hunting cats unless they know they’re feral domestics. I really wish Japan would put more effort into trying to track down any remnant populations of Japanese wolves that might be left. Japanese wolves are the species of wolf all domesticated dogs descend from and Japan was the last place on earth they existed in their native wolf form.

This is Forrest Galante territory! Does the Clouded Leopard exist on Iriomote? We’re not talking about a cryptid species. Finding an animal unknown to science is a sensational discovery. Finding one would make Galante’s career!

the genera are based on geography and geography alone, therefore Panthera is an exclusively Old World genus with an exclusively African origin, the big cats of the subtribe Pantherina are the "elephants" of cats, this is because the cave lion, bakr's cat, tiger, tibetan jaguar, ounce, east asian lion, longdan tiger, chinese jaguar, american lion, yucatan leopard, and jaguar are all more closely related to bohebaos (genus Neofelis) than they are to the royal cat, african jaguar, leopard, european jaguar, or lion, much like how both straight-tusked elephants (genus Palaeoloxodon) and asiatic elephants (genus Elephas) are more closely related to mammoths (genus Mammuthus) than any of them are to african elephants (genus Loxodonta), thus officially making the Panthera genus paraphyletic The Panthera genus now contains only five recognized species with only two still alive today, with the most basal being the †Royal Cat (Panthera principialis), followed by the †African Jaguar (Panthera shawi), and then by the Leopard (Panthera pardus), leaving the most recent split to be between the †European Jaguar (Panthera gombaszoegensis) and the Lion (Panthera leo) The other species have now been relocated to three separate genera The cave lion, bakr's cat, tiger, tibetan jaguar, and ounce all now belong to the genus Uncia with their scientific names now being Uncia spelaea, Uncia dhokpathanensis, Uncia tigris, Uncia blytheae, and Uncia uncia respectively The east asian lion, longdan tiger, and chinese jaguar all now belong to the extinct genus Sinailurus with their scientific names now being Sinailurus youngi, Sinailurus zdanskyi, and Sinailurus palaeosinensis respectively And the american lion, yucatan leopard, and jaguar all now belong to the genus Jaguarius with their scientific names now being Jaguarius atrox, Jaguarius balamoides, and Jaguarius onca respectively The cave lion (Uncia spelaea) and american lion (Jaguarius atrox) are both only superficially similar to the lion (Panthera leo) due to convergent evolution The european jaguar (Panthera gombaszoegensis) is only superficially similar to the jaguar (Jaguarius onca) also due to convergent evolution What's also more surprising, american cheetahs (genus Miracinonyx) are more closely related to the puma (Puma concolor) and jaguarundi (Herpailurus yagouaroundi) while the eurasian puma (Viretailurus pardoides) is more closely related to cheetahs (genus Acinonyx)

@@abrahammagdalena5821 Dude, you shouldn't trust a word they say, even if they said the sky's blue, you should at least check outside just to be sure. All they do is make bogus claims like the above, if someone tries to ask for sources to back their claims, all they'll do is make up yet more claims. If you try to correct when they (inevitably) say something wrong, they'll just ignore what you say and make up yet more claims.

In case everyone should know, "leopard" refers exclusively to Panthera pardus just like "deer" refers exclusively to species in the family Cervidae, therefore there are no such things as either a "snow leopard" or a "clouded leopard" just like there are no such things as either a "musk deer", a "water deer", or a "mouse deer" The correct name for Uncia uncia is "ounce", the correct name for species in the genus Neofelis is "bohebao", the correct name for species in the genus Moschus of the monotypic family Moschidae is "kasturi", the correct name for species in the genus Hydropotes of the monotypic family Hydropotidae is "yoyong", and the correct name for species in the family Tragulidae is "chevrotain"
