I had a 2008 Suzuki GSXR1000 for 10 yrs. I put 30,000 trouble free miles on it but with getting older, by then I was 60, I found I couldn't bend so well to get on it. So I sold it and my old 2013 HD FatBob and bought an HD SGS and I'd like to say nice things about it but I can't. So today I pickup a run out model GSX-S 1000F. Not a hyper naked but it;s basically the same bike with a bit of plastic. With the addition of some Givi bits I now have a sports tourer that doesn't weigh 800lbs and jars your back and kidneys every bump on the road.

Guess I am one of the people yam talked about who don't really need/want rider modes, tft's and so on. At least it does not make the bike that much more desirable that I'm willing to pay a lot for it. To me the simplicity of a bike like this is a feature, and not a negative one. As a rider of a gsxs1000. I can say in all confidence, you don't need anything more on the road. I use it as a commuter and a weekend machine. Confidence inspiring brakes (when dialled in fluid wise etc). Super stable in the corners. It is just a well sorted machine. That’s it’s proposition vs all the tech laden competitors. It is not a touring bike, but it is the most upright and comfy sportbike out there for long, hour + rides. I owned a 2020 Z900RS before trading it in for a 2020 S1000F. The seating is identical, other than the foot pegs being higher and sportier, but the gear box is buttery smooth, the chassis is infinitely more capable, and the engine is just awesome. Plenty of power for me.. Great sound on stock pipes. I also wanted the new Ducati supersport but it’s too expensive for such a slow bike, seems like a sportbike for ladies.. I want to try a Tuono, but if you’re looking for a fun to ride sportbike that doesn’t kill your back, this is kind of the only one. They need to make more naked super sportbikes that sit upright AND are fully faired. If you’re like me, this bike is perfect for your needs, and it’s kind of nice not having HAL level electronics. I loved my gsxs. Very approachable price, super comfortable ride and manageable power. It did feel underwhelming at first because I waited a few days to really open her up. Then I found out after you hit around 7k rpm, that thing would really wake up.

Classic i4. My (younger) brother switched bike, an MT10, with my friend who got a ZZR1400 Kaw, for a short sprint run. They went, and i saw and heard them - and later my bro said that he: wasnt impressed at all ! - by the 1400. He had, what? In his 10? More torque? Nah... He just did not know how a i4 differ from an 270° X-plane, or how the powerband in an i4 work, so he did not rev it. In his mind, the 10 is always king. Ignorance. (Edit: i actually thought the MT-10 was boring. My pillion too, at ~200+ > different strokes for different folks :) )

I bought my 2020 F model new and kept the RPM where the book said through break-in. I remember thinking, OK, not bad, but once break in was done and I took it to red line I was shocked at the pull from 8500 and up! I have 2200 miles on it now in 2 months and I am still shocked when it hits that power band. The way the front tire lifts even with TC on setting 1.

My Cousin and I, a few years back rode the GSX1000 back to back, about 5 times at a demo. (Thunder in the Valley Johnstown PA) I really loved that bike. It was light, and compact, and the engine was SUPER predictable. No scary bursts of power, and even off idle... there was no jerky intentions. (like Ducati and Yamaha have) FYI... my cousin bought one, and paid $7500 new for it. For me... I'm sticking to my B-King. LOL. Coming from someone who's had one for 3 years and 28k miles, it's a damn fine bike especially when you take cost into account. The suspension comes a bit soft but with adjustment is fine on the track. My only complaints are I wish it had cruise control and some way to put hard bags on. My favorite memory with it is buying it one week before going up to deal's gap from Orlando, and riding the tail in a tropical storm. Super easy going bike under 7k. Past that's where the power is.

I rode over 500,000 miles in 15 years on several different make motorcycles as a So-Cal legal messenger in the 1980's and 1990's. (used supersport and liter-bikes were the norm). The current GSXS-1000 has something the rest don't have; economic, on-the-road repairability. All the G-wiz initialized modes are great for the Sunday at Starbucks crowd but are far too expensive to replace and/or inconvenient upon failure to entertain when depending on 300 miles a day, 5+ days a week. In 5+ years I put 230,000 miles on a 1984 K100RT; try that on ANY current BMW.

I have the '18 and love it. For general street use (99٪ of the time), it's perfect. Back then, you could get one new typically for like $8-10k on closeout. Swapped the shock for $650 and I got myself a canyon ripper that's actually comfortable. I also put low supermoto bars on mine for like $80 and it's crazy fun (among all the other upgrades I'd typically ever want to do such as full exhaust, ECU flash, rearsets, QS, heated grips, cosmetics, etc, and still kept it under the cost of the next supernaked). Yeah, it's not a $30k Duc, but if you can't have fun on 150hp, enjoy your lighter wallet and I'll enjoy my bargain beast.

The new one is pretty much the same but it does have a quickshifter and some other improvements. Z900 actually has a 950 engine (sleeved down from the Z1000 engine) so I'd say the GSX-S1000 is meant to compete with those kinds of bikes (eg. MT-09) and not with Tuonos or Ducati V4s.

Can't wait to pick up a 2022 GSX-S1000 this fall. It will be a second bike for me and I like it cause it's an approachable fast naked bike. Its also supposed to fit taller riders well which will be good for me. Yeah, an IMU and TFT would be nice but the price tag really sells this bike. A dyno tune and full Titanium exhaust will wake this bike up. I've seen some gain 20HP on tune alone. The new bike also is supposed to have better suspension, throttle tuning and midrange power over the old bike.

So my first bike was a 1998 Harley Sportster 1200. Never really had enough “umph” for me. Last November I bought a 2019 GSXS 1000FZ, new, at a major discount for TX. At 44, almost 45, and having spent 20 years in the military, it hurts to get up in the morning much less falling off a bike. This bike has everything I need - torque, power, speed. I’m no wheelie king but trust me, you turn the traction control off and get on it? Front end is coming up. My mom lives, and I’m from, up in y’all’s area. I’d be willing to let you guys try it out. Man for what I’m looking for the GSXS1000 seems to be the bike for me. Having a 600cc super sport it’s about just as quick if not a little quicker in a more comfortable package. An as much as I love the r1 crossplane sound, I prefer the classic flat plane sound. Plus gas mileage is really good since it would be my primary commuter big bonus. Also last but not least I’m extremely cheap, and for me it’s more about the ride than the ride. So I think the GSXS1000 will be my first naked and liter bike.
