You forgot to mention how your bike is classified by insurance will affect the rates. A $13k "Sport-bike" will run you $150 a month, while a $25k "Cruiser" can be as little as $350 a year. I ditched my Triumph Daytona 675 when rates got to $200 a month. As a married, old guy with no accidents that was unbearable. Now I have a Triumph 765 Street Triple RS, basically the same bike and pay $325 a year. Get an insurance quote before you buy the bike!!!

One BIG point: if youre like me, you dont ride all year. So ask your motorcycle insurance if they have whats called “storage”, where essentially, you have a bare insurance plan and its expected that you arent riding. I do this in the Fall to not pay the premium price for the winter months. I did this with a couple cars I own too. My motorcycle is stored in a garage

Living in Texas I have full coverage with a higher policy limit then the crappy state minimum. The roadside assistance is totally worth it at around $15 a year. Plus the number of times I’ve used it. Make sure you save up when your new policy starts I usually save 20% by paying in full.

I have insurance, registration, but I don’t have an endorsement. And not by choice. Since covid I literally can’t get a permit or even sign up for a MSF course. It’s insane. Step 6) ^ Welcome to USA insurance.

The quirkiest thing I’ve seen so far is a quote through USAA (Progressive underwrites) that was $30 cheaper a year vs a quote directly from Progressive with a multi policy discount (which is my current policy through Progressive). But if I do the same multi policy bundle through USAA, it’s $20 more a month than Progressive. I can’t make any sense of it. TL;DR - Motorcycle insurance is cheaper through USAA (Progressive) than through Progressive directly.

When i bought my first bike (chinese 125cc), the insurance from the previous owner was sent to me, calculated with me being a new rider and all, the total price for ONE YEAR was $2984 USD. I'm legit not kidding, i gave $720 for the bike, without the owners transfer payment of $100. This is in Denmark so the prices for all vehicles are a bit higher than in the US, but that was a crazy price to see. Now i pay $540 for one year of insurance and that could still be lowered a bit more.

Property and casualty insurance typically only pays out half of premiums collected in claims paid. So yeah, it is pretty much a scam. No one in their right mind would agree to such an arrangement unless they are crappy drivers. That's why the government has to force everyone to buy it: to avoid the self-selection bias. On the other hand, if it wasn't for the insurance industry, there would probably be a lot more road fatalities (and therefore, more losses) as they are the primary advocates for safety.

Just read the complaint reviews on different insurance companies. That'll get you to the best company. Price is relative. This boob is Wrong on so many levels. 🙄

Ouf, I don't know how I feel about an episode about saving money on isurance sponsored by an insurance. Seems like a conflict of interest to me!

I was thinking the exact same thing when I saw that it was sponsored by progressive..... The end of good content from yammie? maybe so.

I did, I think there were a lot of good points made, like looking out for new deals on policy, but in general I think there was a lot of fear mogering to buy additional insurace, which would support my conercerns. In the end, I don't know how much influence your sponsor had in the making of this video, so I guess it is up to the viewer to decide what they want to do with the information given in the video.

@@chrigix8 Correct - it’s a video discussing common beginner rider myths about insurance. Progressive doesn’t have any creative or production input besides making sure we accurately report anything about their business. It’s a video that hopefully provides value to new riders looking to be penny wise and pound foolish when it comes to insurance. Hope that helps clear anything up

@@yammienoob I get what you are trying to achieve with this video and I think there would have been a lot of valuable information, but as a viewer you can't ignore this is a video about insurance sponsored by an insurance company whose traget demografic is your viewership. Why not make an independend video about the topic? There has to be a lot of freely accessible information around to get the same facts.

Progressive must have paid yall a pretty penny to up sale their insurance, liability on my bike with progressive and un insured is 400 a year, slap comprehensive on that bad boy or gir and boom 3500 dollars a year, i have a speeding ticket from 2018, if I don't wreck for a year and a half I'll make my money back for what I paid for my bike. Ngl I like this channels content but this is definitely just a 10 min ad, no thanks.

Not one tip to save on insurance has ever been true for me in Ontario. I pay $210 a month for my GSX S750, nothing changed when I aged past 25, and the MSF was literally a requirement to get insured, and still only 2 out of 10 insurance companies would even look at me for not riding a cruiser and being over 35. Perfectly clean driving record for over 10 years now. Insurance IS a total scam and the only reason I really have it on my bike is because I'm required too.

yeah... its sad... they take every penny they can then fight you for anything... and any issue and they raise the prices. They offer me a MSF discount and warned me that it was about to expire 3 years after I hadn't taken one. I checked with them and they were going to take $50/year off and the course is good for 3 years again... it cost me more than $150 to take the course, talk about a loss of money. They didn't seem to understand that no matter what I explained. Isn't MSF to help people be better and less likely to wreck, but you want me to lose money to do it? "but we are giving you a discount." 🤦‍♀️

Same exact case here. 31 year old new rider and almost no one will give me a chance. Progressive is literally ONLY giving me a plausible rate because I'm a usaa member. Without the member number, I'd be at a 6k premium.

Really just a commercial for Progressive. The most important aspect of motorcycle insurance is not really replacing your bike or providing for roadside towing, but keeping you protected from getting sued if the accident is your fault. And you should have other health insurance because Progressive is not going to pay your medical bills in full you get seriously injured.

A lot of businesses will get you to sign up and then slide your premiums up arbitrarily hoping you don't notice. So one of the best ways to save money is to just swap out your insurance everyone once in a while or get them to price match.
