Yamunotri is the source of the Yamuna River and the seat of the Goddess Yamuna in Hinduism in the Garhwal Himalayas in Uttarakhand, India. It is one of the four sites in Uttarakhand's Char Dham pilgrimage. The chief attraction at Yamunotri is the temple devoted to the Goddess Yamuna and the holy thermal springs at Janki Chatti (7 km. Away).
The temple of Yamuna, on the left bank of the Yamuna, was constructed by Maharaja Pratap Shah of Tehri Garhwal. The deity is made of black marble. The Yamuna, like the Ganges, has been elevated to the status of a divine mother for the Hindus and has been held responsible for nurturing and developing the Indian civilization.
Close to the temple are hot water springs gushing out from the mountain cavities. Surya Kund is the most important kund. Near the Surya Kund there is a shila called Divya Shila, which is worshipped before puja is offered to the deity. Devotees prepare rice and potatoes, tied in muslin cloth, to offer at the shrine by dipping them in these hot water springs. Rice so cooked is taken back home as prasadam. The pujaris of Yamunotri come from the village of Kharsali near Janki Chatti. They are the administrators of the sacred place and perform religious rites. They are well-versed in the Shastras.

अब तो सुरक्षा की दृष्टि से काफी इंतजाम हो गए हैं हम गए थे तब चढ़ाई में बहुत ज्यादा फिसलन हुआ करती थी। उस समय मेरी मां जिस टट्टू पर थीं उसका पैर यमुना जी जो रास्ते में बहती हैं वहां फिसल गया था। मेरी मां को काफी चोट आई मगर सबसे सुखद बात यह रही कि मां को सिर्फ चोट लगकर रह गई थी। उस समय फिसलन के कारण कई लोगों की मौत नीचे गिर जाने से हो चुकी थी। तब पैदल यात्रा भी आठ किलोमीटर हुआ करती थी।

Visited Char Dham in 1984 In a family group of about 45 people including elderly, children of all ages ! Hired a complete bus of Garhwal Vikas Nigam and entire package was prepared thru them ! Had two cars along with bus ! Had videographer, cooks ! All members of group fondly remember this Unforgettable Yatra ! It was like Swarga on Earth !

हमने यमनोत्री धाम की यात्रा 22 मई 2022 को की।प्रशासन की तरफ से कोई भी व्यवस्था नहीं है । यात्री को कई कठिनाइयों का सामना करना पड़ता हैं। यमनोत्री मार्ग ना पर्याप्त पानी है, टॉयलेट भी नही है, दुकानों पर लूट मची हुई है मनमाना पैसा वसूला जाता हैं। और सबसे जरूरी बात , अगर कोई यात्री को चोट लग जाए तो मेडिकल की भी विवस्था नही है एवम बारिश होने पर हालत ओर भी कठिन हो जाते है। यात्रा मार्ग पर पुलिस भी नही है । कई बार पैदल चलने वाले लोगों घोड़े और पालकी से चोट लग जाती हैं। बहुत ही खराब व्यवस्था है।
