I don’t think it’s a problem when people ship fictional characters, BL or not. The real problem lies when they project that onto REAL people who have REAL feelings and sexual orientation. I don’t think it’s ever okay to “ship” (or more like pressure) celebrities or even people you know in real life together. Sure, if someone’s actually a couple then go ahead but I’m starting to see some very wrong behaviour where people egg on two very real life people to get together, flatout assuming they are gay or straight etc. I feel terrible for celebrities being relentlessly “shipped” with their friend of whom they likely have no romantic relationship with like how awkward. Ship todoroki and deku together all you want, just don’t let it leak into your reality.
@raniecarrise96725 жыл бұрын

People need to stop sending death threats to creators to include LGBT representation, and stop threatening creators to make a character gay. When a director changes the show because of this and it ends up terrible it is on the fans. #LetsFight
@Scor_cat5 жыл бұрын
Yeah. I agree massively. Not every story or form of entertainment needs an LGBT character, honestly. That's up to the creator. And, if they do put a gay character in their show, then that's fine. But seriously, stop picking on creators for not putting gay characters in their shows. There's plenty of forms of media out today that have gay/bisexual characters in there. What's the harm if a couple not having any (as the main or supporting characters, at least)? Just because there aren't any gay characters in a form of media doesn't automatically make the book/show homophobic/discriminatory.
@Vgy15925 жыл бұрын
@@Scor_cat There's never any pleasing those types, either. The same people who do that end up the same ones complaining when they *do* see LGBT representation because they find the way they were represented offensive. But, yeah. I'm one of those fujoshis that enjoys BL ships from shounen shows like Hero Academia, but with me, I am strictly aware that all those yaoi ships I like looking at are purely for my fantasies. I read/look at it because I like it. However I am still heavily aware of the existing official ships of that same show. Like I could be sitting on my couch watching Hero Academia, rooting for Deku and Ochako to be together, all while scrolling through my IG feed and liking all the Tododeku posts. The type of fujoshi that I hate and frankly makes me embarassed to even be a fujoshi because they give the whole community a bad name, are those dumbass ones who try and preach their ships to be canon and the only right endgame, and fight any other ship, especially when it comes to the hetero ships. Basically like what happened in Tokyo Ghoul when Kaneki and Touka ended up together, and all those crazy fujoshis attacked the creator because they thought it was disgusting and one of their yaoi ships make more sense, or even that making Touken canon was somehow "an attack on gays". Seeing all that drama just made me so embarrassed to be a part of this community, and nowadays its almost suffocating to be lumped in with those bad examples.

Kuroi Seraphic The sebaciel fujoshis(the sebaciel ship is a ship in Kuroshitsuji between a 1000+ demon called Sebastian and 13 year old boy called Ciel,basically.) made a rumor up to justify them shipping a pedophilic ship,and that rumor says that kuroshitsuji was originally supposed to be a yaoi between Sebastian and Ciel,but the idea was cancelled because they thought it wasn’t going to sell well,so they kept the sexual undertones in the series. Heck,they even kept spreading the rumor until Yana,the creator of Kuroshitsuji,had to confirm the falsehood of the rumor. Moreover,I remember getting death threats and rape threats on tumblr for disagreeing with them. lol.

@LivPC5 жыл бұрын
24:27 Personal opinion: in many shounen series the female characters and the relationships between them and the protag aren't as developed as they should be. In many shounen shows or arcs, girls are set as either 'people to be saved' or'powerful, but not as powerful as the mc because we need a strong male protag' (example: Lucy in the Phantom Lord arc) and are generally overlooked in plot related stuff, only to resurface during ''romantic' moments so we can end the series with them as a pairing'. Meanwhile, the male x male relationships in shounen manga and anime (rivals, enemies, friends, etc) are more developed because they are set as VERY plot relevant (example: the whole thing between Bakugou and Midoriya) and gain more complexity, which attract a huge number of fans that want depth when shipping. Personally, I ship a lot of BL ships in the shounen manga world, less because they are two men (that ain't a kink of mine) and more because it feels like the straight couples are formed by two cardboard cut-outs interacting. They are boring, and it feels like they are together because 'protag ALWAYS ends with main heroine' and not because the author really created something meaningful between them.

I feel like this is the main reason a lot of people actually ship BL. sure, fujoshis exist, but just because male characters are given more chemistry in shows doesn’t mean I have a fetish. I feel the same for girl on girl- characters of the same gender often have more developed relationships.

PREACH, i like both all types of ships but even though i do ship izuocha i understand why people would ship bakudeku and respect it
@kishmalatasneem67674 жыл бұрын
I almost NEVER ship the main protagonist with the main heroine, not because of cliches, but because I don't want the protagonist to focus on much other than the plot, which sounds selfish, but it's kind of what the main character is for. As for BL ships, I like the way they are romanticized, but I can nearly never see them becoming canon because of how, in anime, it's mostly friend relationships. But a lot of people fail to see that. It's one thing to ship a character with another, there's no harm in that, but if they start to very obnoxiously and vocally share that their farfetched ship WILL become canon, then those people are just ignorant.

I'm not a women or a fujoshi but there is some truth in the last comment; many authors include romantic subplots because they feel like they need to even of it doesn't contribute anything to the story so often the romance is lackluster. Shows like Steins;gate is the excellent example how to handle a romantic subplots in a non romance focused show; romance between Okabe and Kirisu is what makes Okabe's choice so difficult at the end. While Naruto is a example of a horrible one; it was just done to satisfy fans and didn't impact the story (other than allowing cash cow known as Boruto to happen).

I agree, I understand why he disagreed, but the statement made wasn't necessarily wrong. To me it didn't seem to convey that the BL crack!ships supported were better, just that in a lot of cases, especially with the typical shounen animes, the romance subplots tend to take a back seat to the action or character rivalries that develop and bounce off each other more consistently, and in turn the intended romantic ship doesn't come out on top and lacks and sometimes seems moreso annoying/forced in a way. *shrug*

Honestly though, I think Joey missed a point in the last opinion. Yes, some BL ships make no sense, but I can also think of many examples where two male characters would go to the end of the Earth for each other, and yet one of those men ends up having a romance with a women he met for the first time two episodes ago. It's things like that that annoy me - if there's going to be a romance in anime (or any form of media) it shouldn't be something thrown in at the last second for the sake of it. A romance should be well built up and well executed, and I think that's why so many BL ships exist. Because sometimes, the relationship between the male protagonist and his male best friend is stronger and more loving than the relationship between the love interest that was just put in for fan service. This isn't always the case of course, but I see it far too often... #LetsFight !
@azulresendiz33595 жыл бұрын
This is what I like to call queerbait, like Banana fish they literally kiss in one episode, he tries to blow his brains out when they say "If you shoot yourself we will never touch even a single hair of his", and it often alludes that "Ash lowers his guard when it comes to Eiji" and then they talk about them not having girlfriends and every other character talks about the power of their friendship. Their romantic relationship was built on so much to lead to nothing at the end, which for many fans felt like ending on a downbeat.
@louisaniathemagnificent82465 жыл бұрын
It does annoy me when an author shoehorns a romance in the last second and doesn't develop the relationship between a character and their romantic interest, but that doesn't mean the character should be shipped with their best friend. It's shallow, romanticises platonic relationship and makes it seem as if the only person who you should go so far for is your lover only, which is not true because in reality one would go to the ends of the earth for their friend, I know I would. Just because a romance is badly written doesn't mean that the two best friends should be together, it's such a narrow-minded way of thinking and to me it's sad to see so many people look at two friends (two boys or two girls or a boy and a girl) who have a deep and strong, healthy bond and think they should be a couple. A friendship is just as deep and strong as romantic love. To me it seems these people have a very shallow idea of friendship. If that were the case then I'm supposedly romantically into my best friends whom I'd do anything for. You don't magically become super close with your romantic partner, hell you could even be closer with your friends than your partner. I understand this point of view, but it's still a very flawed and wrong way of thinking.
@kirbyjoe74844 жыл бұрын
It depends on the genre. If you are talking about a typical shounen action series then you really shouldn't go into it expecting to see subtle and deeply realized characters with complex and well built up romantic pairings. These shows aren't written around the characters' romantic lives so the best you will often get is the MC getting together with some hot waifu bait trophy girl after defeating the final big bad. Just because the MC and his side kick buddy get along and bond deeply over their manly ordeal of beating up the monster of the week doesn't mean you should expect them to become gay lovers in these sorts of shows even if there is a complete absence of other possible romantic interests. Close friends don't have to be lovers. It's just not that sort of story to begin with. Just like with any cheesy western action movie, the guy always gets a hot girl at the end even if it doesn't make any sense. It is different in more mature dramatic series where there is a ton of subtext and foreshadowing that abruptly gets tossed out the window at the very end, but dramas don't tend to pull that sort of stuff nearly as often.

@@louisaniathemagnificent8246 Yes!! This all the way! This trope honestly probably goes onward to even mainstream YA literature but the main point being. They dont have to end up with someone. I dont want to see badly written romance or the forced twisting of a platonic relationship into a romantic one because it's just as badly written, flat and unsatisfying. Not to rip on fujoshis or anything but honestly, a main character can still develop on their own, they can have friends that stay friends and not everything has to have romance shoehorned in, whether by the creator or the fanbase because people should realize that either way you're trying to create something out of nothing.

When the tsundere has a somewhat acceptable reason to hate the main character, but still loves him underneath her hate and when they manage to overcome these obstacles and thus turn the tsun into a dere, that is really the epitome of love.

IMO f/m or romantic relationships in general seems like it's forced. I sometimes hate romance in any action/shounen series because It's like they threw it in there for filler/fan service that generally no one asked for. Take Sirus of the Jaeger for example, the "main love interest" does absolutely nothing to the story and having it cut out would have changed nothing, if not made it better. A lot of action movies are like this too, and the relationship is more so in there just as a "driving force" for the MC to suddenly power up when their s.o is in danger, or as a general climax plot point. It's overused and I honestly hate it. That said I could careless about what BL ships are more popular than canon. Ship what you want just don't force it down people's throats and make a big deal over it if people disagree with you. And also don't shit on people are who are harmlessly shipping two *fictional characters* together.
@absoul1125 жыл бұрын
There’s truth to that statement, but due to the fact that stories are usually about (fictional) people, then romance of either kind is bound to happen. That having been said, I can name more stories that had what felt like forced romance in them than those who’s romance felt organic to the story.
@Krolshi5 жыл бұрын
@@absoul112 Yeah I know what you mean. And if you're taking human emotions into account (like it being more or less part of the plot or some character development/etc) it would make sense, like in MHA with Ochaka and Deku for a loose example. They're in high school where crushes can appear left and right. And as much as I'd rather see more of the development of Deku and each character's road to being a hero, having a romantic interest kinda fits into a part of that setting.

@@Krolshi A better example would probably be the Z fighters: Vegeta/Bulma, Gohan/Videl, and Krillen/Lazuli. EDIT: Another obvious example that was just stated in the video: Chivalry of a Failed Knight . . . .

24:21 1it's a ship, just a ship, most people just ship and like the art and fanfic and minds their own business. 2 that because often the official romance is very cliché and isn't that interesting, so you ship a différente pair and it gives you a completely différente dynamic that is often more interesting. Cause yeah sadly hetero romance is so represented that you sometimes even need more interesting character to actually make the romance interesting. For example, I don't hate Deku x uraraka but I don't really ship them, they are the very basic pair, plain vanilla, don't necessarily bad vanilla but not chocolate or orange. 3 most of us know that our ship will never be canon but we still enjoy the fanon, and the Aus 4 there are some toxic people, but they are often a loud minority.

Where are the yandere husbandos at, though? All jokes aside, though. I'm honestly interested to see how the spear counterpart to the classic female yandere is handled for character study purposes. If anyone can recommend me an anime with a male yandere character to watch, then yes please. I've been looking for a new one to watch anyway. And I design characters in my spare time... So I want to really pick a few male yandere characters apart to see how the trope is handled and how I can put my own spin on that. I've seen enough of the female version of the trope by now, and I've seen differences between character sexes on a lot of anime tropes. Honestly curious to what the differences are on yanderes in particular.

I actually really agree with the last one. I think you kinda ignored the part where the commenter said that most people ship the male x male ships, is because they indeed have usually more chemistry than the canon ones. I'm not a fujoshi btw, I just ship characters who have a nice chemistry and bond. It seemed like you were just dissing "fujoshis" for liking same gender ships. Take bnha as an example. More people do indeed care more about their ships, than the canon ones, because they have more interactions together, not just because it's gay. In bnha fandom you see more art of Deku and Todoroki and not Uraraka and Deku, and that's because they indeed share more character growth together, than Deku and Uraraka. I know you were making fun of people who would be bothered by your opinion, but you just really seemed kinda ignorant and made it seem like people only ship same gender ships just because it's gay.

I actually disagree. I think whether or not you see chemistry is going to highly depend on the way you are seeing it. Not once have I ever thought Deku and Todoroki would go well in a relationship nor did I ever feel it would make sense. I think people often forget that just because two characters have more interactions doesn't mean it's more likely to turn into a relationship like that. In fact, love often doesn't even work like that in real life. The reality is, a person in real life could spend a lot of time with someone and that is the very reason they never end up in a relationship even if one does happen to like the other. It's been aptly named the friend zone. I see so many people these days shipping characters where it doesn't make sense just because they are friendly with each other like as if that is some foreign concept to them. If there are a lot of gay ships I highly doubt it has anything to do with fetishists or anything like that. Rather I just think a lot of people are dumb and will ship just about every character they see with any other character who happen to have some sort of friendly interaction. And what do you know ... a lot of male characters interact with each other. And depending on who each person ships is going to depend on who their favorite characters are. I lot of people act as if Deku and Uraraka having a relationship wouldn't make sense because they actually don't interact that much. Clearly not many people have been in relationships who say this. It's not that uncommon for someone to like another and not interact with them a whole lot and for them to eventually end up together at one point or another. It lasting is a whole different story as that is going to depend on the relationship itself. But the reality is for a relationship to occur, one person ... at least must like the other in that way and for it to come out and then both decide let's give it a go. Deku nor Todoroki has ever at any point showed any sort of romantic indication of interest in the other. Being friendly as friends do ... isn't romantic. Now on the other hand Uraraka has. It's been specifically asked and her reaction makes it obvious.
@SilvyReacts5 жыл бұрын
So ,while I don't think it's a fetishist thing, I still think it's stupid. In fact, I would argue people trying to point to friendly interactions between characters are just looking for any excuse to ship them. They try to claim it makes sense when it really doesn't. You would be better off just admitting it doesn't make sense but you still like the ship. It's at least more truthful, and less delusional.

Shonen is an age-rage, not a genre so of course there will be different attitudes to a romance show and a male character centric action show. The reason why there aren't fujoshi fans of shonen /romance/ shows is because the entire focus of those stories is the het romance and so they're done well. There's no need to pair the MC with a side male character because the chemistry between him and his love interest is well developed and fulfilling to the story. Het romances in shonen /battle/action/ orientated anime are usually a side thought, almost tacked on in some cases, while story and character development is between the male characters who are more deeply involved in whatever sport/game/other gimmick the show is focused around. Even if the girl is also involved in the sport etc (because they're not always involved, sometimes they're just there to be moral support and be a reward for the MC) they're rarely shown as being as good or even as into it as the male characters. And when you've got all these multilayered male characters striving for something and butting heads in rivalry, those are the characters you become attached to and start reading potential relationship tension into. The side female characters on the other hand just aren't as well written most of the time, wrap up whatever goal or character improvement they needed pretty quickly (usually by fighting another girl) and then are just /there/ for the remaining of the show, patiently waiting for their man to come home from the tournament arc. Personal opinion incoming but I rarely have any emotional connection with female characters in male driven shows because a lot of the time they come across as less than side-kicks, and the canon pairings are always a yawn, but well-written one-on-one romance anime are some of the best I've watched and I get so invested in the relationship I don't even think of putting the main guy with another guy, even if there are other cool male characters in the show. Long reply is long, sorry about that.

But if it's just fujoshies shipping L and Light together and watching the show by that point of view, that's not it folks... There are many great hetero relationships written, but one too many times the plots are similar to one another and I find that boring. Originally written bl stories mostly have more interesting plot twists and character development within the relationship than "normal" couples. The reason why I love Bl, is only because of the reason that I love interesting plotlines in love stories, be it about forbidden love, boys love, age difference etc.

I personally *HATE* Tsundere‘s the most. For me, they are the most annoying and they all usually share the same stereotypes, character and even look sometimes. But i cannot disagree that Yandere‘s are the worst. I mean, if the girl is just over-passionate and clingy like Albedo from Overlord for instance, then that‘s fine since it provides a lot of fun. But full on Yandere‘s are the worst and whenever i see people defending them and actually full on *LOVING* them, then i will always see masochistic virgins who say that.

I think the "fujoshi" is just saying that relationships between male characters in a lot of anime are better, spend more time on and more profound that male/female characters relationships, and that's why heterosexual girls ship BL more that het. And I think they're right. Also dude, you sound hella salty in this video. Were you in a bad mood ?

I’m not a yaoi fan but of course I’ll agree with the facts, just take a look at bnha, midoriya fell in love with uraraka just because she was the first girl he bumped into in his first day of high school which made it look like he liked her just because she was a girl, and then u have midoriya and todoroki going through that heated up battle, yelling and being all emotional, I think the friendship bloomed very beautifully and it was a great character development for todoroki in result too, so I definitely see why more people would ship them rather than the canon ship of the show (of course I think uraraka later on developing a crush on midoriya made a lot of sense as he really inspired her, it was just midoriya’s side that was kinda badly written)

I always hate when people call wanting mlm or wlw relationships as it being a “kink” or a “fetish”. I know there are people who fetishize it but anime has always been pretty popular in alt circles or the outsider circles that are usually made up of minorities such as queer people. I also think the opinion was misunderstood, as it wasn’t a thing with shipping, but of queer representation and how relationships between male characters are often more intense due to female characters often being stereotypes, under developed, not necessarily attacking all heterosexual pairings, but in general when you look at a lot of big anime alike the big three.
