Forcing yourself to like something will only make you like it less, it will make you create a resentment towards it as you’re fighting between to opposing feelings, one that says you “should” do this thing, and the other that tells you that you don’t enjoy it right now

Hello Haiying! I was wondering if sometime we could talk about “changing paths”, and knowing when something isn’t for us and having to make the difficult steps to move on to something that better fulfills us. I am considering changing my major in university and it’s scary, but also exciting. I would love to know your thoughts ❤️ sending love!

Also, please forgive my ignorance, but what does this HSK4 exam assess? It seems to be in Chinese…is this an exam for undergraduate or graduate school?
@wouterdegruijl4303
@wouterdegruijl4303 3 жыл бұрын
@@Chanteusetarot Hey Chanteuse, the HSK exams assess listening, reading, and writing. There are a total of 6 levels at the moment, with 6 being the highest level. For HSK4 you need to know at least 1200 Chinese characters. This is not part of an academic program. You can compare it with the TOEFL or IELTS certificates for English proficiency. It might be part of your studies if you study Chinese in university, but you can also do the test and get the certificate if you are not in any school. My major is not Chinese, I learn Chinese because I like it. I mostly taught myself using online sources.

Lovely camera work. Also love how you quickly describe your empty talks with "blablabla" I hope you know we mean it more then any random blablabla. Also I find from my more general Asian culture that my family is also keen on perfecting our craft. I think it's always important to finding a craft that we love just as well as we are good at. Forcing a skill like doctoring or maths if you do not enjoy it will not foster perseverance when things get tough. And just because you stop something for a moment doesnt mean its to an end forever, new perspective can be all the help. Thank you for more wisdom and love to your community

To me, what you're describing is probably a product of the modern era more than something specific to the West, although it caught up to us first. In the past you would often find yourself inheriting the position of someone else, a family member or someone in your community, who did something important for the sake of others - providing food or housing or making textiles, even making art. You did not have quite as many options, so you would put your whole life into it because you had nothing else. The ability to try your hand at many things is a product of modern convenience. We have more hobbies, materials, and teachers available, but also children get to be children for a while longer, and have more free time and energy than adults who work or study full-time. I think it's a good thing to allow kids to enjoy as many things as they can before they grow up, because if they dedicate all of their free time to something they can't carry with them into adulthood, isn't that kind of a sad thing? And then they can pick out the things they enjoyed, like art or poetry or music, and keep them as an occasional hobby as an adult. I tried soccer and art and piano, and was taught how to knit and sew, and I still know a bit about all of these things, enough that I will paint and knit and sew when I feel like it. If I had put all my time into only one thing, I would be poor in terms of how many things I have available to me in my free time. Taking up a new skill when you get older and have less time is admirable, but also intimidating, especially to someone who has little time and energy to expend on something they have no idea how to do. If I had never played an instrument, I would probably have not bought an ocarina. If I had never learned to sew, I would probably not be able to patch my clothes and sew dresses for my doll. These are little things, but things that make me happy, and more importantly are things I can do quickly when I have very little free time in my schedule. I apologize for writing so much. Speaking of free time, I'm actually supposed to be studying, so I can't edit this for brevity any more than I have. At any rate, I recently discovered your videos and I love them very much.

this was the perfect thing for me to hear today! i really appreciate everything you said. i'm from the west, and in the last year found myself getting really into chinese animation and novels and one thing I love so much is the way the characters focus so much on achieving mastery of a craft and value dedication to perfecting their craft. i really relate to the desire for that, but I've always leaped from one thing to another, I think because I avoid the bad feeling of not being good at something, but in order to be good you have to practice for a long time. I'm so frustrated now with feeling like I'm constantly starting things but not becoming skilled. I started art school in my late 20s and felt so much inspiration and excitement, but the last few years I lost that, and now trying to try new mediums but my lack of skill in this area makes it hard to push forward. And sometimes what I need to learn seems so vast and intimidating I don't know where to begin. sometimes something is hard but still really good and valuable. I want to keep pushing through and let myself learn so I can one day have the skill to express myself in the way I want. thank you for this video
