"Give me control of a country's money supply, and I care not who makes their laws", Amschel Rothschild. "Not only are the banks too big to fail, but they are also too big to prosecute", Eric Holder USA Attorney General addressing Congress April 2013. I wish more people would gen up on Central Banking and the creation of money out of thin air by the private banks. Unfortunately, when one mentions it eyes just glaze over and go blank.

beaubarri - sorry, but nobody controls the country's money! I mean, nobody controls mine! Oh, and by the way, they got prosecuted left, right and centre- last time I checked! They got hit by massive fines, got sued, and a few bankers even got jailed! Strangely enough, no politicians went to jail/got sued/ got fined etc. They were the ones who interfered with the banks; bullying them into making loans they would never have made in the past! All to get more votes, and stay in power!

@@borntodoit8744 -Yes, you Dolt, I believe in capitalism because it works. In a free market each person is able to bargain with different people to determine the pecuniary value of his/her own labor, rather than to be forcibly remunerated according to a decision made by some government official per socialism. A free market system is just and proper because it enables each person to achieve the highest possible pecuniary return for his/her labor by bargaining with multiple people and by freely entering into contracts that will most advantageously remunerate remunerate him/her. This willing seller-willing buyer situation also benefits society because it incentivizes people to develop and provide new and improved products and services for the public. Products and services developed competitively through free enterprise are on the whole far superior to the products and services that are available in a government-controlled socialist economies. Whenever and wherever true socialist economies have been instituted, they have ALWAYS failed to compete with free market systems. Furthermore, socialism can not survive unless it is forcibly imposed by government on citizens. True socialism benifits only the elite ruling class and always deprives other citizens of basic rights.

Agree on that, the plan was for Germany to pay for Europe as some sort of guilt trip for WWII, (ps look int who really started WWII, it was not the Germans) Anyhow, Germany works to subsidise everyone else. Except the Germans are slowly waking up, it is absurd that Germany has to pay for other nations. Germany's AfD wants Germany out of the EU and they are the fastest-growing political party in Germany, now a major force. Once Germany leaves the EU is dead. Apparently, Merkel has just agreed to pay the extra money needed to cover the Brexit shortfall, its in the British press but not in the German media, strange that.

I clearly remember many cases of introducing myself as a greek to german people and the insults about being poor and lazy and not paying taxes started immediately. And no, they were not meant as jokes, these were people I'd just met and the first thing they though of saying to me after I mentioned my name and ethnicity was insults and racism. It was completely insane. I know not everyone is like that in Germany, as i have german friends who are cool, but the anti-greek propaganda in german politics and media between 2008 and now, has done a lot of damage and has caused hate and racism in germany.

I like how he relates real life events to Shakespeare and Greek tragedy, that's brilliant! I have been a lifelong lover of anything Shakespeare as well as the classic tragedies and have studied it well.... it speaks to universal themes perfectly....

Full marks to both participants in the interview! Varoufakis' candour and spontaneity in revealing the truth about what happened is much appreciated. The world needs more men like him in public office!

My grandfather died in Greece trying to protect your freedom. Greece is not too small to matter!

@SpinazFou happily as I appreciate the respect you give. He was a blacksmiths son and stonemason who joined the Royal Engineers. He was attempting to assist refugees onto the Hellas when the Germans dive bombed it. He died of shrapnel wounds and my granny only found out he was dead two years after the event. His name was Samuel Cartmale and if you search the British War Graves Commission website there are records of his memorial in Athens. It’s a very uncommon name so quite easy to find in that context.

Conor Dorrian, I applaud you for stating the most salient point in one sentence: "There's not enough of people like him in power." Exactly.
