As a Red Sox Fan, looking back at when "The House that Ruth Built" was demolished in 2010, it was a very sad moment to see a stadium of that magnitude be taken down. If anything, it should have stayed as a Historical Landmark by the United States Government.

The new stadium is great its not bad. But the atmosphere at the old stadium was something else. You walked into Yankee stadium and you felt the history in the walls as you sat in your seat. Nothing else will ever compare

While Penn Station fell to lack of maintenance, Yankee Stadium, The Polo Grounds, Ebbets, Shea, Giants Stadium even MSG was because of revenue streams and the snobbish wants of fans and ball players are torn down with nearly a protest

It was outdated and obsolete, not to mention very crammed feeling. And was falling apart, especially after that piece fell in 1998. But it was also all about getting more money, in which the new one has more shops, a museum etc. And at least the site is now Heritage Field so it got some preservation

Wow... so, that place, before ground was broken, was a dilapidated, seemingly abandoned lumber yard! To tell you the truth, the photo of that yard brought me a little bit of sorrow; one, just to look at the condition it was in at that time--I mean, look at just the ad at 1:28; and two, to know that this yard would become home to one of the most iconic sports venues ever in the world--home to SOOOOO many historical sports and cultural events--only then to be taken down, like it was just another 1950's-1960's era cookie-cutter stadium! At least, after it was gone, this area that was once a dilapidated lumber yard is now home to a kids' playground, and is still not abandoned, unlike in 1921-22. But the new stadium will never be like the old one, and I can tell you that as a former NYY fan.

Lousy ending-- The old Stadium wasn't simply "torn down". George Steinbrenner, the owner, wanted to make the Yankees a new home before he died (at age 90, I think). The new Stadium he built is almost a carbon copy of the old one, but with modern electrical and plumbing. The old Stadium was dismantled, not destroyed, and many historic pieces were purchased by fans. The new Stadium was built right next door to the old one.

They should've made the Original Yankee Stadium a second Baseball Hall Of Fame before modernizing it in the 70s.

They could have made a museum out of the structure, and still use the land for commercial purposes.

It was incredibly out of date and obsolete, and starting to fall apart (not to mention an incident in 1998 when a piece of concrete fell), not to mention it costs more to renovate (they already had one in the 70’s) and you can only renovate a place like that for so long. Steinbrenner wasn’t going to fund another renovation, he wanted a new one for years prior, from what I found those talks also date back to 1998.

How do you destroy a place like Yankee Stadium. For the money they spent to build a new one. They could have fixed anything that needed it. The new one doesn’t even come close. To what was destroyed. Which to this longtime BB fan is a shame. So much sporting history there it’s not even funny. It’s sad! All that BB history doesn’t resonate at the new one. Especially the so called voice of the team today. Who has no idea what he’s talking about. The worst sports caster in the history of sports period.
