He's on waivers which lasts 48 hours, and during that time every team has a chance to claim him based on reverse order of standings. If noone claims him he stays on the Yankees, and then either Yankees keep him or designate him for assignment to minors. Players that clear waivers do have the right to refuse reassignment if they've been in the league 3+ years. Also if a team claims him they are also forced to pick up his remaining salary, and only players claimed off waivers BEFORE October 1st are eligable for the playoffs for the new team. Most likely Bader clears waivers, refuses reassignment, and remains on the Yankees. Bader is a Free Agent after this season, so whether the Yankees resign him or not is another matter.

This is how the Yanks COULDA had a great season PITCHING Cole and Bull pen, awesome. Offense! No Judge no problem Long Ball plus small ball Pretty good D Now let's play Woulda Coulda Shoulda Imagine Cole Sevvy Domingo Rodon Nasty Piching at 80-99% Bullpen - solid Defense, better than last 3 years when SS was a problem. Hitting? DJ GCS Gleyber Plus Judge, Rizzo, etc. It COULDA been a .600+ team It's sad to realize What "Might Have Been" So at the end of the day The Bullpen was good most of the way Same for Defense. Starters? Excluding Cole - it imploded. Hitting? Pretty much imploded except for flashes from AJ99 and Gleyber And we now hope to clear .500. This series against Detroit gave us a glimpse of an alternate reality LGY! Make us proud during September
