What qualifications would you need to dive at the elphinstone reef?
@SearenityQuest Жыл бұрын
Thank you for your message Lennard . Even though some dive centers/ liveaboards take the foolish risk of bringing open water divers there , I would strongly recommend a minimum of an advanced certification and some solid experience in deep diving. Elphinstone is in the open sea , has vertical drop offs, unpredictable and sometimes strong currents and choppy waters at times.Perfect buoyancy is a prerequisite as you either drift or hover in the blue with great depths below. Diving Elphinstone requires utmost respect and humbleness , the tragic events of 2007 are a undisputed reminder of that . I hope that answers your question .

sorry to ask but i’m diving here soon, i love diving but in the places i’ve been before it’s very unlikely to see a shark, i’ve heard that it’s quite common to see them here. do sharks tend to bother divers?
@SearenityQuest4 жыл бұрын
Hi elllaruby x . . I really hope that you will then see a shark very soon for it is one of the most mesmerizing animal you can see underwater. Many types of sharks can be found indeed in the Red Sea. Thank you for your question but with all due respect , reality is exactly quite the opposite, as we, humans , are the intruders and the ones bothering the sharks . Never forget that those beautiful creatures were already navigating oceans and seas way long before Gagnan and Cousteau were born.The shark , i suppose that you are probably referring to is the notorious Oceanic white tip (Longimanus) which is known to be inquisitive .You also have to distinguish between coastal reefs and off shore reefs as the Longimanus by nature will rather be cruising the latter ones. So , if you want to avoid this shark at any cost do not dive offshore reefs such as Abu Hamra , the brothers and Abu Kizan. Otherwise , do not worrry as you will be briefed accordingly just like you would be briefed for example about the hazards of blue ringed octopus in other parts of the world.Last but not least the best way to debunk shark myths is to avoid mainstream media. I hope you will enjoy your dives in the magnificent Red Sea.
@PetrKominek5 жыл бұрын
Amazing! Steady footage, excellent light, details... Do you still enjoy your dive if you have to focus on the filming?
@SearenityQuest5 жыл бұрын
Hi Petr , my sincere appreciation for your kind and astute comments . Your question is truly interesting because what is indeed the real essence of a dive ? To tell you you the truth I have been diving for a very long time and even used to work as a dive instructor . At that time , the goal was twofold , security for the students/clients and finding all kind of marine life for them to watch but I had no concern about filming. The more you dive the better you obviously know your environment and the species behaviour which helps for filming underwater . I have always loved diving whether I had to lead or for my own pleasure , with or without a camera . Nowadays , I do a lot of solo diving where I live in Malta which means I have long dives and ample time to alternatively film or simply enjoy the scenery . It gets trickier when on dive trips because I usually dive new spots for the first time , bottom time is reduced because you dive within a precise framework decided by the dive operation , your freedom is hence limited . In such cases I must admit that I sadly focus on filming , I still enjoy the dive but I realise that I miss out a lot . I sometimes even feel stupid trying to achieve the perfect shot when the real thing should be to hover and admire what is around you . Sorry Petr for my long and boring answer but I found your question too relevant to be disregarded . Thanks again and season greetings .
@PetrKominek5 жыл бұрын
@@SearenityQuest Dear Yann, thank you for your long answer. I'm keen on diving and filming as well, unfortunately, I don't have so many opportunities to dive so often.
