Truly phenomenal performance. I am so glad now that I am 73 and can no longer get around like I used to that I attended his live concert when he and his entire entourage came to perform at the Academy of Music in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Really, truly discovered his music when I was 15. We were playing “Marching Season” in my high school marching band that year, and I had never encountered an asymmetrical meter like 7/8 before that. I was mesmerized by how those sorts of rhythms worked. So I went to the library, and found Live At The Acropolis. Then Tribute. Then numerous others. I’m 34 now. I’m a pastor, but I also write and arrange music. And SO often, I hear and feel Yanni’s influence on the meters I use and chord changes I work through. This man’s music has changed my life, and I’m better for it.
