I'm glad we live in a reality where a 22 minute youtube video titled "Yannis Papadopoulos' Vocal Range" is a totally legit thing to exist.

There are also a couple of ridiculously high notes in the songs The Fifth Angel and Blood of a Lion that I didn't see in the video that I believe are worth mentioning. I think that in the Fifth Angel the last two background notes you hear are D6 and C#6. In Blood of a Lion during the last line (your crown and throne) there's a very high backing vocal piece where I believe Yannis hits Eb6 on crown and then Bb5 on throne. Also the highest of the notes Yannis hits during Blind and Frozen (which wasn't featured at all) is A5. Still and awesome video. Just thought I'd add this to it.

The fifth angel notes top at B5 and are credited in the vocal range thread. The blood of a lion note also isn't as high, you're hearing overtones from the mix. The background notes are Bb5->G5 Blind and frozen yes....after uploading I realized I didn't put in a single example from it but eh... Like I said, his range thread (here: therangeplanet.proboards.com/thread/501/yannis-papadopoulos?page=1 ) contains a more detailed profile

@@TheMusicalPotatoes I wasn't pulling you up for not making an exact video. I simply wanted to add a couple of notes that I'd heard from listening to the Beast In Black songs that sounded quite high. The main thing that impressed me about those particular notes was how clean they were in comparison to other notes that sound a bit rougher (such as the F#5 in Oceandeep). I definitely think that the end notes in The Fifth Angel are higher than the B5 or at least the first note is. The second note could even be a B5, the first might be C#6. Not too sure but it sounds higher than B5. Either way, the video is still awesome. I use the video for my own singing fairly often.

@@Tathareium yea, I know, I know. I'm just saying where they'd be in the video. And yea, his voice has changed over time. His highs have particularly drastically changed since the until rain days, probably due to smoking he has to compensate with headier distortion... anyway thanks for the comment man, I'm glad you liked the video :) Good luck with your singing
@Tathareium

Not only smoking but I would assume that his vocal techniques would be incredibly taxing on the voice, particularly for extended live performances. Still he maintains one of the highest male vocal ranges I know of without even utilising whistle tone which is pretty commendable. At this point, I'm just glad Beast in Black became a thing so that I could find out about him. Cheers man. Also, if you're thinking of doing more videos along this wavelength, I'd recommend doing Ralf Scheepers, the lead singer for Primal fear. He's got a pretty decent range as well.

@@Tathareium They're not taxing if you do them properly, as far as I can tell he uses more head voice live and more chesty notes on the album, which is common. He still sounds great and all but considering his bad habits like smoking, I'd say he has maybe 2 more albums of great vocals before his quality is gonna go down a lot. Maybe. I was thinking of doing one for Tommy Johansson and one for Brittney Slayes in the near future, but at least the former has a massive discography of high notes to go through

@@TheMusicalPotatoes i wouldn't consider vocal fry part of a range bc anyone can do that
@TheMusicalPotatoes
@TheMusicalPotatoes Жыл бұрын
@@jesusjimenez6755 by that logic nothing counts. Anyone can learn how to sing anything. There are women singing bass and males who sing in whistle register. Singing isn't a magical thing you have to be born with a gift to do, it's hard work and practice. If you can control pitch and keep consistent tone, it counts. Vocal fry just seems like anyone can do it, because it's among the easiest techniques

@@TheMusicalPotatoes I'm going to interject here just because I find this super interesting and wanted to share something related that I recently heard. so yes, by that logic, I agree with you. In terms of vocal fry being part of range, I don't consider it to be a part of true vocal range, even though it should be included in discussions of vocal ability. The way this way explained to me was this: vocal fry doesn't use the vocal cords. It uses vocal folds above the vocal cords called "false cords". Now I get that this seems like splitting hairs, but here what convinced me this was the right way to see this: vocal range doesn't consider sounds that aren't made vocally. "Vocally" doesn't mean "sounds that come out of the mouth". it means sounds that are produced by the vocal cords. If this still sounds purely semantic, consider another technique: whistling. I mean literally whistling. Putting your lips together and pushing out air. It produces sound that can regulate pitch, add vibrato, and ultimately create the same nuanced melody that vocals can. And it comes from the air being pushed out from the lungs ultimately leaving the body through the mouth! But it clearly isn't vocals. Does that now make sense to you that vocal fry isn't actually vocals? Now trying to argue, just found this information super interesting.

he sounds great yea, but the gap in vocal technique between them is still pretty massive, plus yannis is a smoker which has already deteriorated his voice. Not to rag on him, Yannis' singing is _EPIC_ but Heiman is just another level x)

MusicalPotato heh, true. Who’s the closest person to heiman you can think of?
@TheMusicalPotatoes
@TheMusicalPotatoes 5 жыл бұрын
@@wannaberabbi9302 Well Sean Peck is usually talked about besides Heiman...and he's REALLY good, especially on super high notes, but the technique and versatility are still below Heiman... then people also bring up Tommy Johansson, but he has nothing in his lower register and can't growl. In terms of vocal technique alone it's more or less agreed that Mike Patton can be the only one comparable, his voice is a baffling anomaly in the singing world...He has 6 octaves of full voice range and it takes decades to learn how to do his stuff safely. What he does is inhumanely difficult, buuut it's quite unpleasant to listen to and he's practically never sung clean 5th octave notes or done any demanding high vocal runs that Heiman does. He's all about the most extreme limits of the human voice and if vocal technique is all that matters, Mike is better than Heiman, but they're both good at vastly different things, so in the end it's all opinion x) can't think of anyone else besides these
