Thank you Roweca. Yes, they are great fun to make with little ones. And it is the lantern festival today! So there's no better time to make them really!
As always, you inspire me and I believe that I could actually do this one! Thank you Yan, a very clear explanation. Now to find some red paper. Or is light card better? Mmm will go experiment. May not be able to cut through all the layers of card, but it would be stronger.

Thank you very much. Yes, you should experiment. I'm not sure if card would work though, as it is difficult to get neat folds in card. When you fold higher-grammage paper, the fibres at the edge of the fold can sometimes snap, so professional firms use creasing and grooving machines (apparently they are very different techniques). Try it though and let me know what happens. Also, I'm not sure how strong you need the lanterns to be. They are sturdy enough with normal cartridge paper. The folds give the lantern strength. And if the lantern does get torn, then just make another one!

Thank you very much. Hope you enjoyed England. It's getting very pretty with the springtime, which I have been celebrating with origami daffodils (narcissus) - kzbin.info/www/bejne/nZWYaotmYrWFbtE

Thank you for giving them a go. They look good diplayed in a window, so your neighbours might appreciate them too? Hope your sister has a lovely birthday, despite these awful current circumstances.
