My mother has had that snowblower for years and it works great through both dustings and blizzards. I was just looking up what oil to use before I changed it and I found you awesome guys to show me how to do it! Much appreciated. Take care.

I just saw this video in 8/23 for my Snowblower I bought at Sams Club around 2002 or so. Its actually made by MTG and has the 10 hp Tecumseh engine. I have had it 20 years and replaced just about everything on it. It has never failed me and it keeps plugging away. I bought it, as it was the last one I think for about $525 or so. I have replaced the belt, light, carb and tightened many bolts many times. I think I got my money out of it and wasnt sure what kind of oil to put in it!! I think I need to change it ;)

My next door neighbor just replaced his last year just so he wouldn't get stuck incase it broke during the winter. I also did a couple of repairs for him as well. Solid machine! Thanks for the comment.

My 20 year old MTD with Tecumseh started, as always, on the first pull after sitting for 2 years. Don't remember ever changing the oil but I promise to do it tonight!

Wow! You guys are a lifesaver. I have a Yard Machines brand snowblower and couldn't figure out where you drained the oil out. Thanks for posting this.

Thanks. BF and I split in October was and the snow blower needed an oil change, which I know nothing about. Thanks to this video I changed the oil myself. Guess I didn't need the bf as much as I thought I did....lol

Thanks Paisteboy! See it done once, you have it for the duration. Good tip about the oil drain tube- it does turn easier than the plug! Engine ran WAY better with new synthetic 5-30.

@paisteboy I use Stabil too, I put it in my gas can, but have noticed it doesn't work as good anymore due to what I believe is the ethanol. Seems like any equipment I leave gas in for more than a couple months goes bad. The only thing that seems to help is Seafoam. Works great in two strokes too.

Thanks @paisteboy - I've got an ariens 1032 with the same engine and needed to know how much oil.

Thank you paisteboy, very simple and easy to do.

A little Seafoam to the gas tank will do wonders for the carb after sitting all those months. Even if a little gas remains and dries in the jets it varnishes and plugs the passage.

Thanks man I have gone like 5 seasons so I guess it's time to change it eh?

So are you saying that only tecumseh engines blow up? Most of the snowblowers that I've seen until Tecumseh went out of business, had Tecumseh motors on them. I'm not deffending Tecumseh because they do have some drawbacks, but to say that Tecumseh engines are POS based on one motor blowing is not a fair assessment. I have a 33 year rototiller with a 5HP Tecumseh on it that is still running strong. My 12 year old Ariens snowblower gas a 10HP Tecumseh and I've had no problems. Thanks for watching

Hi, great video. Is there an oil filter that needs to be changed also?

@paisteboy Sweet. Thx. Just brought it home last night. The thing is a beast. Can't wait to see it start eating and spitting snow :-)

No filter or screen. Any mower repair place with a parts department will have a carb rebuild kit or go on line and search by engine model number.

Thanks, I was trying to find out how much oil these engines took... without under/overfilling from my 4l jug of left over oil of some grade... try pouring your 1L oil jugs the other way around, they pour better without chugging.

This is my next door nieghbors blower. I have a Ariens 1028 and I have a oil change video on that too. Same motor. Thanks for watching.

Hey Paiste, I just bought a used (maybe 10yrs old) 8hp 26" Yard Machines snowblower with a Tecumseh engine. What do you think of these machines?

I don't know if you read comments still or even own this still. But do you happen to know the model on this one? My local neighbor ended up getting one for free. Needs minor stuff to get it running. Go figures it was a Sam's Club model, considering we have one across the street from us lol.

Yes, I do read and reply to my comments. This snow blower belongs to my next door neighbor and he still has it. He is looking to replace it next season though. I'll have to ask him what the model number is.

It's Model # 31AE665E118. It's an MTD Brand.

@mrwiggles2 That's a good idea. I am going to do that to my sled so I can do both. I put stable in all of the fuel that goes into my equipment since some of it sits around more than it gets used. Especially a rototiller which most people use 1 of 2 times a year. Thanks for the suggestion.

It's important to emphasize NOT to overfill your oil on small engines even in small amounts. Ideally, you measure out the correct amount before you SWAG the measurement. Simply put overfill will cause the oil to "Foam" reducing the lubrication and creating more friction than necessary. Worse case scenario if you overfill the oil you could bend the crankshaft or over-pressurize crankcase causing oil to escape into crankcase ventilation destroying your piston if it enters thru intake system. Always measure out the correct amount of oil required before you begin to pour.

It could be a number of things. If it has been sitting around for a while. Start with draining the old gas and adding fresh gas then clean the carburetor.
@Paisteboy13 жыл бұрын
@redlense4 The motor should last many years since it's a very good quality motor. As far as the yard machine brand I think it's a well made product. My friend Gary here has had his for around 10 years and hasn't had any problems with it. From what I've seen I think they are reliable machines.
