Nothing stupid about that at all.. things are done tested and tried out many times in the RNLI, the crew and the vessels safety is paramount as well as other users of that marina The Severn class lifeboat weighs 40 tons reversing of a berth like that is best way to manouvre a boat that size 55ft long, pretty much all marinas large boats moor up the same way, not all crew turn up at the same time hence the time delay. Just retired myself from the RNLI after 15yrs

So would it not be better to berth it so its bow was facing out ready to leave? What's reversing and crews turning up at different times got to do with it?

Thats down to the station how they like there boats ready to go, I’ve seen them set up in many different ways. Good point though 👍

@@sekou3758 Surely you are not that stupid to understand that if it's pointing in the right direction ready for a shout, it reduces the manoeuvres and time to get out, therefore decreases the time to get to the people needing saving. Doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure that out.

@@Elfin4 No because as you swing to turn out, your stern is going to smack the pontoon, going bow in you utalise the narrow aspect of the bow.

Yep, looking at some of the comments below re. the mooring of her I am surprised that they've allowed some yachting berths at her stern end. Amidst a decent swell in the harbour the coxswain might appreciate a bit more room to go back aft to get her around to port quicker.

Why Is the RNLI Live saving Rescue boat with the BOW out? Every minute matters!!
@Elfin44 жыл бұрын
Why was it not berthed so it was the right direction to leave not having to reverse sure would be better ? Seems like the berth hers is not designed for a quick exit. Would be better to have an angled berth to dock against so the bow was at least pointing in the direct of the marina exit. Bad design in my humble opinion.
@stephenk92403 жыл бұрын
It’s easier to get her out of the harbour the turning circles not great at low speed
@Elfin43 жыл бұрын
@@stephenk9240 Exactly my point, bad design of the berth to accommodate the boat, should be pointing in line of exit out of the berth for a quick exit. It would have been an easy design and wouldn't have costed much more, so in my opinion the civil or marine engineers have failed on their basic design parameters to meet the fit for purpose mantra.

could you please explain WHY the boat is not moored facing outward - thank you

George Ros that is unusual
@calebjenkins78947 жыл бұрын
George Ros I wondered that and it's to do with the tide so that when the tide is out and the harbour is lower with water the props do not get beached on the sea bed.
@scott37086 жыл бұрын
That's just stupid, dredge the slip out, or moor in a deeper slip. The time it took them to get out of their slip and on with the rescue is frankly embarrassing. Seconds count. I pray this was a training mission, but not on how to get out of marina...

Just curious why the slip for an emergency lifeboat is the farthest away from the open waterway with so many boats in the marina that could potentially get in the way when the lifeboat is departing on an emergency run! Where's the logic in that?
