Yashodhara was and still is an exemplary woman. She never abused her husband who left her, she attempted to understand his spiritual goals and ended up as a sanyasini herself, all the while raising a good son! Lots to admire in her story!

The Indian women, since they were spiritually oriented, were all women of resolution - like the (spiritually oriented) men. No big difference gender makes there. Several examples are found in the Upanishads and other scriptures. One very recent example was Rani Lakshmi Bai of Jhansi. More recent example, Sri Sarda Devi, consort (not 'wife') of Sr Ramakrishna Paramhansa.

Maybe for Hindus it's like that but for Buddhists they can practice their spiritual journey at anytime in their life whenever they want because if they wait to fulfil all other obligations they may be too late, life is so uncertain....and also to achieve the supreme goal one has to achieve spiritual fulfilment through the efforts of many lives.and yashodhara accompanied him in his journey through out and giving him the help and freedom he needed to complete his advancements so she was the felll traveller in his sansarric journey

Please Read With The Previous (see below) :: That is why, SPIRITUALITY - which is not to be mistaken as 'religion' or 'any religious practice'. It is training the mind to see ALL AS GODLY OR DIVINE. Rightly trained for this, that person would excel in practically anything he undertakes or does. And he would do only the virtuous. Allbeneficial admn, Social Service, Innovation (beneficial to others - not profit oriented), Decision making, Guru-hood, Preacher, ... whatnot!!! The most recent, and NOW living example would be, 'Amma' (Mata Amritanandamayi Devi). A going-to-be soon, can guess easily, is Modi-ji, Indian PM, going to take the third term in some 10 days from today. Hindu thought classifies such pinnacles of Spiritual examples as AVATAAR.

Buddha was NOT a Prince but a Regent, ranking officer, in his birth province. He did NOT leave his family but teaches wisdom and virtues, which later spread across the land. He had a son and 4 daughters. Stories are being told to glorify historical facts, especially after being turned into Religion branding. He was a Great man that serve his time immorial and purposes, which still applicable till this present day. Like all Religions, in its later form, turn temples and believes system into Enterprises.

Did princess Yashodara ordained as Bikkuni with the 500 women following Maha Prajapathi Gothami ? As I learned those 500 princesses were the wives of 250 'Koliya' men and 250 'Shakya' men who fought for water in Rohini river. That 500 men finally goes to Lord Buddha and became monks. That time the wives of them also decided to be monks and suggest Maha Prajapathi Gothami to ask for start 'Bikshuni Sasanaya' as there was still no permission for women to join as monks. I don't know exactly whether I'm correct or not but according to our teachings about it princess Yashodara could no be included in that 500 first most women to request to join 'Sambuddha Sasanaya'. But I don't know the exact time that Yashodara became a Buddhist monk. Can someone tell me it. Up to now I thought that the princesses Yashodara and 'Sundari Nanda` ' became monks together after a time later of establishing the 'Bikshuni Sashanaya'

Good presentation but uh, your PRONUNCIATION of the names is poor. It isn't Booda! Please! Buddha! The "d" is as in 'this' and not as in 'dime.' It isn't Yaashodhara. It is Ya-show-dhara. That aside, this is a mythical story. And so is the mythical story of the Buddha's birth from his mother's side rather than a normal birth. A story of abandonment. In the Hindu tradition, it is imperative to fulfil one's duties. Once married, it is the duty of husband and wife as Grihasthas, which means householders, to stay together, follow dharma, raise the children, perform charitable deeds. Once those duties are done, only then are the householders free to explore spirituality and NOT till then. Please: if I am flamed for this comment, I'll just delete it and any comments will go down in flames.
