If you listen carefully you will understand why the corrupt NPN government of Shagari was removed, because Nigeria politicians of the time had looted and wasted money meant to develop infrastructures, some arrears of workers salaries left unpaid. I don't know how old you were at the time but you may wish to ask sincere elders around you. Nigeria was almost at the verge of collapse. Babangida took over in 1985 and relaunched corruption to Nigeria in a grand-scale, while Goodluck Jonathan administration institutionised the monster called corruption which has now become endemic and very difficult to tackle across parties or regions........we really missed the opportunity then. ........

After the coup, because many of the politician has travel out the country for holiday. Joseph Way as the Senate President was in London, he tried to bring back one million naira cash using his girl friend through Cotonou seme border, but was not possible to enter Nigeria with it, they went on Christmas & new year holiday with a lot of catch. Remember Buhari change the color of naira as soon as they took over, those who raw cash hidden away find it difficult to bring back and change to new once in the bank. Those days I rushed to UBA ilupeju branch to old naira to the new one just to see and feel what it look like. Under 4yrs they, NPN finished our reserve and introduced austerity measure.
