I have finally begun watching Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight Trilogy. We first get introduced to Christian Bale's Bruce Wayne as he trains to, one day, become Batman. We meet Liam Neeson's character, Ducard, who would later be revealed as Ra's Al Ghul. There were so many iconic DC characters in this film, such as Alfred Pennyworth, Lucius Fox, (soon to be Commissioner) Jim Gordon, Jonathan Crane (Scarecrow), Victor Zsasz, Carmine Falcone and so many more... even getting a joker tease at the end.

Batman Begins from a visual standpoint is my favourite out of the three movies. Gotham actually looks great in this film even featuring a really cool art deco train system that screams comics Gotham while also having the Narrows that adds so much to the city. It's not Tim Burton Batman 1989 or Batman Returns level of Art Deco and Gothic revival architecture that looks pulled straight out of the comic but it's a solid reimagining of a more modern day Gotham City. Gotham the TV you watched has a really solid Gotham and even has that fun hybrid of tech where there's blimps, type writers, retro cars, and old style posters yet people use phones and computers. This is kind of like the Tim Burton movies as well which had a very timeless feel along with the Batman Animated Series and the Arkham games. But I disagree with the idea that Burtons city was unrealistic as with unlimited funding and a focus on heavy Gothic revival architecture it's extremely possible to create a city filled with Gothic revival and later Art Deco architecture, Earth itself has had some crazy cities that many people would see as unrealistic. Gotham History but Solomon Wayne was the one who commissioned the many Gothic revival projects that used amazing designs which is where Gotham gets it's iconic look from. He's a Wayne so he pretty much had unlimited budget so over the years massive Gothic revival projects went underway transforming the city into what we see today. Art Deco was introduced later in the 1910s/1920s which is where those elements come from blending together with the Gothic architecture. The Dark Knight may be a better film but it's Gotham is straight up Chicago they just slapped GCPD onto the police cars and placed Batman in Chicago and called it a day. Same with Dark Knight Rises but instead that feels more like Pittsburgh and New York so it's like each film Gotham City changes which is really off putting if you notice it. The city lacks it's own personality which isn't right for a city as iconic as Gotham City a character on itself. I love these films but for me Dark Knight and Rises have the worse renditions of Gotham City simply because the city doesn't feel or look like Gotham something the Burton, Schumacher, and Reeves films did so well. But like I said there still good films. Personal Gotham Movie Cities ranked: Batman Returns (Improved upon everything and still hopes up really well today) Batman 1989 (Perfect live action rendition but hasn't aged well in some areas) Batman Mask of the Phantasm (Love the timeless 1930s/1990s feel Gotham never felt so Noir and alive) Batman Forever (Love the Neon Gotham look) The Batman (Gothic revival architecture is on point just wish there was more Art Deco but it's still amazing) Batman Begins (Best version of the Nolan films and hopes up so well) Batman & Robin (Little too over the top but still fun) DCEU Gotham (Haven't seen much of it but it just feels more like New York City than a unique fictional city) The Dark Knight (Great film but Gotham City could've been much better) The Dark Knight Returns (Same case as Knight)

I do think these films suffered a little because of Nolans desire to keep everything to grounded so no supernatural elements or crazy villains with powers and abilities. Hopefully this isn't something The Batman sequels fall into as they have the ability to start introducing more of the crazy side of the comics like Clayface and Mister Freeze. Characters like these starting showing up after Year One and made there move in The Long Halloween with the age of gangsters ending and the age of super villains begining. The events of The Batman could create a power vacuum that would introduce these super villains. But yeah I definitely prefer the more comic Batman movies that feel like they've been pulled from the panels of the comic going for stylised looks yet still remaining realistic.

@@Akm_699 This was more mid career for Oldman. Big get for Nolan. Thinking back Bale was a new comer still. Sort of the talk of the town actor and Oldman was older and more accepted in movies. Caine and Freeman are those type that you are like why a Batman movie. They had their career and were legends. The sheer award nomination list that The Batman Begins cast would fill a book.

Nolan recued Michael Caine's career, as Caine himself admitted in multiple interviews (and in the foreward for the Trilogy's "Making of" book where he also joked about Emma Thomas being the producer of Nolan's films and "producer of his children" 😆). Before Nolan's films Caine was in crap like Steven Seagal's directoral debut 😱

This was a good starting point between the actors and the director, Christopher Nolan. In case you haven't watched his movies since his Batman trilogy you should. Specifically, Inception: some of the actors from Batman are also cast in it.

An all-star cast team up to break the ice that settled over a dead franchise and deliver one of the best film trilogies to exist. I actually prefer this one to the other two due to more focus on characterization and better work done to create unique architecture instead of just using Chicago. You can really feel Bale channeling the Bateman in his scene talking with Earle at the end.

Heh, me again. After Scott Pilgrim, Going back watching things I've watched that I wanna watch you watch haha. That was a tongue twister. Watched TDK before this one, and went to this one tonight. I agree with wholeheartedly on Harvey Dent, idk if that's why you took the comments off. But he was def not the best of them, OR he wouldn't have been able to be torn down. Jim Gordon def is the best of them and he could never die before becoming commish. And Harvey annoyed me too haha. Fun to see your comments and jump scares too lol. Wish they did split personality element to him, would've made it better. Ledger is a LEGEND as Joker and it's a shame we didn't get more than makes TDKR a completely different movie, which i can;t wait to see that reaction of yours. Spreaded them out far huh? As much as I love TDK, the 3rd ACT takes a dive a little more annoying to get through haha. And I prefer TDKR :O. But as for BB, this was a good place to start and definitely slow in beginning and gritty non blockbuster way to introduce him, went so under the radar, Scarecrow is everything and wish his role is bit more prominent. Speaking, also totally agree about Victor Zsasz in Gotham FTW. Anthony Carrigan stole the show in every scene and wish we saw serial killer side later. That show was a train wreck in multiple directions, wasn't sure where it wanted to go, but had a lot of good moments and stuff going on. Jerome (hated, Jeremiah and twin brother trope) and Professor Pyg might've been my favorite arcs off the top of my head. They ran through so much material before he was even Batman. Gordon was Batman before Batman haha.

I wonder how they would've justified using the Lazarus Pit in a grounded 'realistic' kind of setting? Just like... a big hole and they would just throw men in there to suffer and die, and then have that person step out, resurrected and rising from the Pit, reborn and revitalized with the ambitious idealism of hope and shit? I don't know - I think Christopher Nolan's "filter of plausibility" is amazing.

The diegetic audio from the film coming over your speakers and fan noise is extremely grating here. Makes for a hard watch. You're importing the video already-why not just use the audio that comes with it, and balance it with your commentary in the audio tracks? Dozens of other reactors do exactly that, without getting hit for copyright infringement.

its funny about batman.. his whole no-kill thing. and yet he just knocks people out left and right and it's like.. in real life knocking someone out cold can very easily put them in a coma and die. hitting someone hard in the stomach can kill someone esp if they already have liver damage (or even if they don't.. that's how Houdini died apparently). not to mention breaking bones and crippling them for the rest of their life. in some cases, the person he thrashed probably would have been happier if batman had just killed him quick instead. but hey i mean this is batman we're talking about.. realism isn't exactly what you're going to get lol. but as far as "realistic superhero movies" go.. i'd put the nolan batman films high up on the list; maybe the top
