Min Woo Hyuk is an award-winning, very famous and very popular Korean musical theater star, model, actor, and he has won "Immortal Songs" several times. He's known as a master storyteller when he sings. He doesn't sing in vibrato all the time. He's holding back in order to highlight her voice and harmonize without drowning her. He actually arranged and directed this duet. He has a range of several octaves, and can sing anything -- opera arias, musical theater, ballads, pop, etc. He's not "this gentleman.) He's a superstar. He was famous before Forestella. On a side note: He was a very promising baseball pitcher and was being recruited by top teams, but got injured. That's when he decided to become a singer.

In the Korean comments on the original video there were several complaints about his constant vibrato which they did find irritating. As you said that much vibrato is common in his genre - musical theatre/crossover. Recently he sang "The Prayer" with Sohyang and to me he was only average among those who have sung it with her - many Korean opera/popera singers plus several westerners including Josh Groban and Michael Bolton.

All Korean shows use autotune for any performances. Sometimes it’s obvious. But those light notes by Sohyang in the end I don’t think that autotuned. Very good (At least I want to believe in it..)

You mean basically any shows similar to these throughout the world does this. It's an industry standard but if you are not a good singer it won't cover it up. I know this because I have watched hundreds of shows like these including Korean Immortal Songs shows.

Post editing rather than auto tune. They do sing live. Like with Bridge Over Trouble Water, someone uploaded a pre edit. Still really good but not as perfect as what they show on TV.

@@joandsarah77 The microphones used on the stage are all dynamic microphones, meaning they are resistant to ambient noise and acoustic reflection. The reason why the vocal quality of the recording is good is that it receives data directly from the microphone, and the editing of the broadcast is aimed at eliminating noise and balancing the accompaniment and vocals, not using autotune. On the other hand, the recording, which is in context with the condenser microphone, is compared to the broadcasting compilation mentioned above, by accepting all the noise and spatial distortion around it, compromising the balance between vocals, accompaniment, and frequency. The best thing is to hear it directly in the field, and in this case, the audience is overwhelmed and even breathing should be allowed by Sohyang.

I am not a fan of the opera vibrato either. SoHyang sang with S. Koreas Sumi Jo at the special Olympics in Korea a few years ago, and they sounded awful as a duet. One with fast vibrato all the time, and SoHyang with smooth vibrato, just did not sound right. As far as auto tune, I am pretty sure she does not use it. She never has before, and just started wearing the ear monitors 2-3 years ago. There is a short video somewhere, where she was helping this young girl with some singing, and she was explaining about how you must HIT the note dead on. If I can find that video clip I will send the link for you to watch.
