Jesse realized he had no chance of winning the last duel, so he tried to sneak a win in time. He utopia doubled at the last minute giving himself a huge life advantage. Then, at 46:28 you can see Jesse hide the material under the Utopia, hoping Raphael would mess up his last turn (of which he had a minute and a half) and send the Jackalope with dingirsu. It definitely tripped me up on Raph's last turn looking at Jesse's field and seeing the Utopia without materials. Also the attempted serenade dance play. Not being phased by that is a huge reason why Raphael deserved this win. Incredible execution on the last turn under immense time pressure. Raph is not one to be cheesed.

Wow i didnt see that, such dirty plays....
@coffeedudeable5 жыл бұрын
@@shadow3oni i disagree. Did everything that was stated happen? Yes. Does that make it dirty? No. Xyz are supposed to have their materials under them thats in the rule book as being vertical so they are fully covered. Traps usually work doing your opponents turn its weird that this lunalight one doesnt. Like they are legitimate things i think anyone should and could do in a game. People are adding intent amd motivation to the play where we domt actually know
@elijahbuscho77155 жыл бұрын
@@coffeedudeable I agree. It's not necessarily dirty. The serenade play is definitely understandable, easy mistake. The Utopia play appeared more deliberate to me. Like a subtle way to mask game knowledge like laying your hand stacked on the table so it looks like you only have 1 card in hand, but of course that's just speculation.
@coffeedudeable5 жыл бұрын
@@elijahbuscho7715 i guess my point with the utopia play is even if the perpose of the maneuver was to hide the material we cant call it dirty because thats litterally the rules of the game. Its not cheating. But im someone who finds table talk to be fair play so that's just my humble opinion
@elijahbuscho77155 жыл бұрын
@@coffeedudeable it's definitely fair. I also like table talk. Maybe it isn't dirty, but it's definitely something. Cheesy maybe. I also think this differs from table talk. There are three types of cheese I'd like to compare: 1. Just talking and joking and tripping your opponent up by distracting them 2. Representing your hand as weak while secretly holding three engages 3. The Utopia play 1. is the least cheesy, there is no misrepresentation of the game state whatsoever. 2. is a bit more cheesy, because you are slightly misrepresenting the game state, but, strength of a hand isn't quantifiable, and a hand is also private knowledge. Finally, 3. Is the most cheesy. Here, subtle concealment of the game state is occuring. A player can easily verify the materials of Utopia by moving it, like Raphael does, but this public knowledge isn't immediately apparent by looking at the field. This is apparently legal under the rulebook, but it's pretty darn cheesy.

Pff, not against either of theduelists, but Raphael really played the time game, which is annoying. Playing slowly on the last 10 mins, then 3 mins to go forcing opponent to play fast and playing fast himself. He may be good, but thats just a low way to win
@elijahbuscho77155 жыл бұрын
You don't know what you are talking about. Jesse put up no interruptions on the last turn, and just dealt a ton of damage to hopefully win in time. If anyone was playing the time game it was Jesse. Raphael executed lethal damage even facing the tight time constraint of a minute and a half. If he had played faster earlier it would have ended in the same result minus the rush for himself. Both players played respectably.
@elijahbuscho77155 жыл бұрын
Another thing, at 46:28 you can see Jesse hide the material under the Utopia, hoping Raphael would mess up and send the Jackalope with dingirsu. Not being phased by that is another reason why Raphael deserved this win
@michaelcemhalicioglu32095 жыл бұрын
Personally Id say you dont know what you are talking about. As I said, I am not defending either player, but it seems like Jesse is playing at the same pace, while Raphael between 12 to 4 mins to time is playing relatively slow, checking his graveyard after resolving everything etc etc, but forcing his opponent to play quickly. Played against him at the 2018 wcq and it was a similar situation. But hey, everyone has an opinion, so whatever
@elijahbuscho77155 жыл бұрын
@@michaelcemhalicioglu3209 playing slow and checking your grave is advisable, especially when you have a lot of options. He doesn't want to make a mistake, because rushed play leads to errors. He only plays faster when he needs to. I guess you can call that playing for time, but I guess I define playing for time as trying to get the clock to run out when you are ahead in life. Raphael won the game before time ran out. I just think it's ridiculous to call that a "low" way to win. What was he supposed to do? Play his last turn slow and let Jesse win in time? Getting rushed when you are playing isn't fun, but I think losing a game you'd otherwise win due to time is worse.
