I think just like his mom told him, you are 7 now, then you'll be 8, then 9. I think he's progressing, he doesn't have most of his memories past his childhood but his brain was not damaged in the cognitive sense. He still has the cognitive ability of a 30 something year old man. He can process and understand beyond what a real 7 year old could. He still remains pure in a sense because it is one's memories that create mental barriers and spiritual wounds, that is why he's able to accept things so openly because none of his traumas can currently drive his decision making. The one good thing for him is that when he gets his memory back, he will also have his new memories with him, which will perhaps bring him more understanding of why his mother acted the way she did. It will make it easier for him to really come to terms with her and "forgive" her. Perspective is one hell of a tool.

I’m frustrated watching this drama, working as a therapist and have a degree in developmental psychology, it’s mothers like the one in this drama that messes people up for life. They come to therapy 40-50-60 years later realizing that it’s messed up and not really love. I know it’s just entertainment but people are influenced a lot by entertainment, normalizing abusive dysfunctional relationships.
