That one soul beat ye was freestyling over was a complete rip off of 'Demolition 1+2' by Key!, And key said on Twitter today that Kanye had tried to buy that song off him years ago. Disappointing that he can't even be original with the ideas he's using AI to carry out

And there's the problem! It's not AI use it's ABuse people have issues with. If Kanye paid for the beat to train the AI with there's no issue. What he's doing is just theft with extra steps.

Ehhh, I don't like your point about 'no reason to assume lack of agency'. Kanye has a very high net work, Bianca has little, there is a substantial age difference, and he has a documented history of harassing and intimidating a woman who left him (plus her new partner). Also we know he dressed her, multiple exes of his have described how he would pick out clothes for them to wear and be quite controlling with that. Both Kim and Julia described him basically throwing out all their clothes and replacing it with what he wanted them to wear. Prior to Kanye, we have photos that shows she did not dress in such revealing clothing. I think all of these facts create a rebuttable presumption she is indeed being abused. And I think it's an ethical issue to come from a 'assume her agency is being removed' stance, because we can't put all the labor of pointing out you're being abused on the victim prior to giving them help....the truth is for many victims, that's too late. I don't see the harm in conceptualizing her as a victim, because the harm of potentially 'limiting the artistic vision of women who want to be entirely unclothed on red carpets' is substantially lower than the potential harm of 'we all as the public participate in the humiliation and objectification of a victim, and also normalize such dynamics by turning a blind eye'.
@BelleLusus12 сағат бұрын
Unfortunately there are many many well known artists historically across genres/mediums who have “kept” and often abused their “muses”. We can only wonder the opinions of such in their times and yet their legacies are overly romanticized and egregious acts are overlooked and often undocumented. Now we are left to assume Ye’s eccentricities could perhaps be documented similarly in decades to come

Presuming someone is in an abusive relationship purely through your perspective of tangential evidence is... kind of insane and also dangerous behavior. Are you an insider that actually knows/knew her? Have you heard from those that do? How do you plan on securing her agency and enlightening her to the reality of her situation? Hopefully not internet harassment.

We’re all being replaced by machines if even the art isn’t real. My problem with ai is that the way they teach the ai is to steal art from creators. Em used ai to make his voice sound younger but he still did the rapping. He had a plugin of his voice over someone else’s rapping. That doesn’t make it his. “Losing it” would be my suggestion. See I’ve sent you some requests for you to check out an independent artist, Ren, who raps and so much more. It’s more pure than anything Ye is doing.

I feel like people forget that Kanye is Kanye. They love to talk about how he revolutionized and changed the game, but when it's time for him to do it again, they don’t recognize it and act like he's "gone too far"-forgetting that pushing boundaries is exactly what made him legendary in the first place. The cycle repeats: first, rejection and skepticism; then, recognition and acclaim.

I feel like Kanye’s music has always represented or symbolized a sort of “story” of his life, which I guess you could say about most artists. Regardless, it’s oddly fitting that someone who was so highly successful and respected 5 years ago, now disgraced, has had their music output reflect that, going from thousands of hours spent creating songs to using AI.

I don't know how to feel about Ye at this point, he keeps acting in ways and saying things that at best are stupid and at worst are straight up terrible. At least when he used to do questionable or messed up things he would put out some great art, but I don't even think we're getting that anymore. He just seems to be getting worse and worse and so does the music, so what's even the point? Despite all of this I'm such a fan that I can't help but keep myself up to date with what's going on and watch content on it. I feel good and bad for people who have never cared for Ye. Good because they're not invested in such a mess, bad because they don't appreciate some of the greatest art ever created (imo). The dichotomy of agreeing that he sucks as a person but disagreeing that his art is mediocre can be frustrating. That aside, In terms of this video and others you've made on Ye, I think you have a great way of tackling and discussing everything. You're able to denounce the bad aspects of Ye while still talking about him because of how fascinating he can be. AVAA.
@elaiynlie22 минут бұрын
Great video i like your view point rejecting the essentialism prevalent in conversations surrounding Ye (and other so called problematic artists). Its more analytical. The common unchecked condition underlining the conversation is that once you perceive a flaw in someone (perhaps you read an allegation in an article, or heard something crazy on an interview) you have the power and right to judge the persona of that someone, and in circular fashion that defines their essence and therefore everything prior and in the future of that moment of perception. its logically weak thinking. I think you should continue covering Ye in your videos. Since when has a revenge story been told from the point of view of the murderer? Especially when the zeitgeist bounces around ideas/labels of Evil, "Bad" people and more casually the "P.O.S", its important to humanize the "monsters". If the empathy is narrow, it won't ever heal humanity. And empathy is ultimately the core of art. When you analyze a neo-nazi like Ye, you aren't defending them. Humanization isnt a defense. Your rejection of essentialism is what makes your critique of art and artists specifically meaningful. (YOU CAN NEVER GRANT "TOO MUCH" GRACE !!)

Ye is like a Trump of hip hop culture, only difference is Kanye has positively contributed more to the arts and could still do if he sought help. But ima quit engaging with the rap culture content, it depresses me of late. I would also like to add that if Ye had shown in the nude too, I will have no doubt about his partner's urgency. For now the power dynamic of the relationship makes me doubt she has any power to her body.

25:10 It's frustrating to me, how a clear sign of belonging to a community where you mute your personal expression, as well as affiliations becomes praiseworthy, because the individuals in it hold power. Communities hold power too. What billionaires do is, is either they never belonged to a community, or marry into such a community. They assimilate into the no association culture. Wearing a 8k plane shirt is beautiful indication, that they still care about spending a lot of money on their clothes, they just choose that their statement is, to show how much they can mute themselves. It becomes a status symbol. Everyone is impressed. The real flex as a billionaire is to wear what you like, even if it doesn't make you clearly a billionaire. It's about your internal feeling. If you know you choose clothes because it makes you feel more like a billionaire, you are just trying to belong and lack style.

I wonder how our grandkids will see our deification. Kanye is a genius who has legendary insight on art and he is an idiot that just likes to be contrarion. He at once a great teacher but has horrific allegations coming out of his school. He respects his wife, who has agency in the decisions he claims to have spent hours making. There is a world where can celebrate Kanyes music without proclaiming that he is so good that he can't embody laziness. His music has been trash because he hasn't been putting time and effort. Because he desires to be powerful not because he desires to be impactful. I think its time to put Kanye in his context that he begs to be in. He desires attention and I feel like pulling artistry out of his attention whoring and contrarionism is kind of delusional and dare I say dangerous? It's not lost on me that we favor conversations around his music as thought the man isn't out here sexually harassing and abusing those that he works with. Kanye is a monster and its cute that he wants to work with his kids but no amount of unmedicated rants are gonna change the fact that he wants to be Donald Trump and Elon Musk and AI his process is more proof of that to me. There are ways to use AI creatively, (Kanyes credit for Autotune belongs to Tpain but we move) but his demonstration showed laziness so I'm gonna belive my lying eyes and ears on this one and say Kanye is a lazy attention whore. FD Signifier made a good point about Kanye; his entire life, he's had an opposition to popular sentiments. When Bush was popilar and the country rallied around him, Kanye was saying 'George Bush doesnt care about black people'. When hating Bush became a popular sentiment, he had to move to supporting Trump. When Trump became more popular, he moved to Nazi stuff. He's literally always tried to be an asshole, and I think *wanting* to be an asshole makes him an awful person. Also, he hasnt made a good album in 18 years.

One of Ye’s talents in consuming RIDICULOUS amounts of all forms of art and transforming what he finds inspiring into his creations. All great artists do this. He couldn’t control Kim so he married a clone to abuse and humiliate. If he thought it was art why wasn’t he naked too, ugh !

Ye been such a big disappointment since 2016 , he kept dragging himself in a lot of bullshit to the point where the Last time i was excited about a kanye album was life of pablo and it hurts for me to say that cause i was a die hard ye fan.

Hey you saying to Kanye that is not really blood sounds tone deaf, the guy believes in god, it make sense. You questioning that is because he stepped on your field of academia and teaching.

Kanye may be right about AI just becoming another tool to make art. However, he fails to realize that the biggest impact of AI is that it will be weaponized by corporations to try to replace human artists, and lower their wages, leverage, and opportunities, in order to make a buck. I struggle to see how the next ‘Kendrick Lamar’ will be able to surface and thrive while under an AI-dominated music industry.

Barely two minutes in and we simultaneously get « as a feminist… » and « i don’t see any reason to assume lack of agency… ». Bar Kanye’s extremely well known history of, I don’t know, using and ab-sing his former partners, maybe, as a feminist, there is the fact that we live in A patriarchy…? Where most women have their agency denied in some form or other by men…? A political reality that will unfortunately more often than not seep into one on one hetero relationships…? A very disappointing take, especially coming from someone who teaches hip hop and rap, maybe you should be more clued in about how men in that space have had no issue objectifying women and how not easy for women in that space to it is to go against that. we are in the midst of the Diddy prosecution and fresh Jay Z allegation after all. But sure there’s no reason to assume. We have a track record of the partners of mega male artists both dead and alive not always surviving their abuse and sometimes surviving, but sure. No reason to assume. Meanwhile as women we cannot walk around without questioning how safe the men in our lives really are. But sure there’s no reason to assume. Coming from an academic as well - maybe this was the time where you do need to consider some assumptions, actually. You always preface your music analyses of hip’hop and rap with the fact that you’re a white academic who reads the book but doesn’t live the life, maybe you should have prefaced this one with the fact that you’re a man.

Fair criticism. I’d like to reply thoughtfully. The reason I insist on not “assuming a lack of agency” is not to protect Ye, but to not deny Bianca of her autonomy based on assumptions. Maybe I didn’t make that clear. I did draw the parallel to Manson and McGowan, where I would also not have assumed a lack of agency on her part. Of course, Manson was an abuser so he did not merit that grace. It was my hope that it was clear that I was not saying Kanye did no wrong, but that I won’t presume to know his relationship to his wife. Your larger point that I should have caveated the whole thing with “I don’t know what it is like to be a woman” is totally correct.
