This is just excellent. So many screws and ribbon cables to remove, and many little screws to lose in the process. Thanks buddy.

I've only swapped the HDD for an SSD and upgraded the RAM to 16 gb but this was useful. BTW this is a dream laptop to open and disassemble.

One of the USB ports on one I got off of Ebay was damaged, luckily it is the one on a daughterboard, and I found a bottom case on Ebay that came with it. So I have to swap the bottom case. It's been sitting for MONTHS because of the nightmare involved. To make sure I don't lose a screw or put one back in the wrong spot, I plan on taking pics at each step and editing them with screw sizes, and using sorting trays to number them. But I really need to get it done so I can move from this 1600x900 E6440 to the FHD touchscreen on the 5540 and finally upgrade from the 250Gig mSATA in the 6440 to a 500Gig mSATA and 1TB SSD in the 5540.

The USB port on the left side is damaged, do you have a part number for it? Does it plug in or is there soldering involved? I have a lot of electronics experience so soldering wouldn't be an issue. Edit: Never mind, I found it.

No, there has no slot for M.2. you may use regular SSD SATA. clascsg.uconn.edu/download/specs/E5x40.pdf

Great video! Many thanks for uploading. What a horrid laptop to work on! I could replace the entire case of a Stone NT310 in the time it takes you to get to the top case off. Am I right in thinking that the CPU is soldered directly onto the motherboard, so you have to replace motherboard and processor together? If that's true, then that is truly awful - criminal!
@zacanderson75395 жыл бұрын
This is unfortunately true with most laptops nowadays. BGA is the most common way of implementing CPUs onto mobile boards. Now when your board goes out, you need a new board, CPU, and OS (hardware-paired Licensing). This is the best case scenario. Some OEMs also solder memory and storage to the board too.

So not possible to upgrade the CPU? I have a 5540 that was given to me with an i3.. would like to put an i5 or better in it
