My wife suffers from severe abandonment issues and low self-esteem. Our relationship has been one of extremes, she pushes so hard against me at times as a means of protection, wanting me prove all her insecurities wrong. There’s been times when I threw up my hands and walked away until I heard this song. In it I heard everything my wife couldn’t say, the yearning, the sorrow, the pain of a broken childhood haunting her to this day. It never fails to bring a tear to my eye because I hear her voice in the lyrics. It gave me so much patience to get some sense of what she felt. Our marriage is so much better now. I love her with all my heart.

It sounds like your poor wife probably has borderline personality disorder. Abandonment issues. Pushing people away then freaking out if people do walk away. Low self esteem. Rollercoaster emotions. Unpredictable. Usually suffered some sort of childhood trauma. Very awful and difficult illness for the sufferer and those around them.

I, feel as though I can understand your wife, as I always have the same voices going on my head all the time. It's one of the reasons why I never managed to have long term relationship with any of my girlfriends. Your wife is really lucky to have someone like you in her life, I hope your marriage lasts until both of you grow old and pass away together. Have a heartfelt greetings from a Turkish man who just broke a heart and also got his heart broken. Bye.

2:44 is where the lead singer sees Angus show up to the video shoot. You can see it in her eyes. MAPS means My Angus (her boyfriend at the time) Please Stay. She thought he left without saying goodbye (to pursue his own career). He showed up late and it was capture during the shoot. The mix of raw emotions is amazing. I was in a similar situation. Needing her support one last time and thinking she bailed on me, and she showed up at the most critical time. Still remember that moment before she got on that plane and left my life for good.

the power “wait, they don’t love you like i love you” holds is magnificent. she never needs to explain the meaning which, i think, is why the lyrics are so incredibly simple. is it romantic? of course. could it be platonic? definitely. does it describe the loss of love? yep. and yet it simply means a type of love so great one cannot put into words. i love the ambiguity and the deep understanding we all have for experiencing that “no one loves you like i do” kind of feeling. a timeless song with an iconic and recognizable chorus… ugh i forget how much i love this song.

“no one loves you like i do” can be two sided. It can be said out of ignorance and selfishness but also can be the truth. You never really know until you actually know the person in question and actually understand it as a person. Romantic etc?! Not really. It's a case and point ''you told me something and I listened to it and ends right there'' that is it. Can't relate nor care to relate. Each to their own. On a related note it's just like going to a psichiatrist 99% it's equal to being alone and talking to a wall, the only difference talking to a wall is free ... vent and move on, nobody cares even the ones who say they do they actually don't. Every person deals with their own s--t.

Simple powerful and real. Those are real tears. Her boyfriend at the time and her "true love"'s name was Angus (MAPS= my Angus please stay.) Angus was supposed to show up for this video shoot as he was leaving a few days later & this was the last time he would see her. He showed up in the middle of the shoot and Karen O started crying instantly as she saw him come in but never broke stride or "character." The director kept the shot as it captured the moment of the song and it's meaning in an ironic twist of events. That's why a simple video of a 3 piece band on a stage in a local school cafeteria is so powerful and so very real. And yes, he's in the video

i have so many feelings about this song. years ago, i was in a psych ward for attempted suicide. I met a woman there who was also there for the same thing. we bonded over the same feelings we felt. before i left, she gave me a letter. it was pretty letter with rainbow lines on it. i still have it. we hugged and cried and said goodbye. after we both got out, we kept in touch. she introduced me to this song, and i'll always associate it with her. meagan, i'll never forget you. thank you for being a friend to me during a difficult time in my life. i hope you're doing well now.

Not that it's fun to see famous people experience heart ache.. but there is definitely something so refreshing to see someone so successful and famous still feeling the normal emotions of being let down/ hurt by someone. No matter how rich, famous or successful you are.. there's no avoiding the pain of being hurt by a loved one. There's beauty in seeing raw emotion like this.

Now that 10-15 years have passed since these bands were in their hey-day you can appreciate how they formed a kind of cohesiveness, most of them are now less active or changed/ evolved in their style. Where were you when you realized she was really crying? I hadn’t paid attention the first hundred times I watched this song and always wondered why she was so stiff and gave such a weird performance. It was years later when I was watching the video again that I realized - that tear is real. She’s fighting so hard to stay professional and this raw stunning version pours forth from her. Every movement she’s making is to keep it together and get through this performance - and that’s the version that her audience feels every time. It cuts us to our core and we love it and her so much for it.

15 years. Fif. Teen. Years. I was 23 and loved this song. Fifteen years have passed, and this melody endures in the playlist that makes up the soundtrack of my life. I loved a man then, and really thought that he would be the pinnacle, the last man I would fall in love with, the One who made every broken heart worth it, because he was everything that I “deserved” after a childhood of merciless bullying, a violent upbringing, terrible self esteem, and looking for a savior beneath many, many dirty sheets. He really was the first man I became involved with, that treated me like a woman instead of a sock- and boy did I not know how to treat him in kind. I earned that broken heart, and it took YEARS for me to process my experience and heal- from a LIFETIME of spiritual and psychological wounds. The first time I heard this song after he left, my heart shattered. But you wanna know something? That was my emotional/spiritual rock bottom that resulted in me no longer being a victim. I finally stopped using my childhood to justify the person I had become. Yes. All of that, from a song. Music is powerful, friends. I’d do it all over again. Fifteen years later, and I married a man - and this time I am worthy of his love ❤️

A perfect video for this beautiful love song. It shows the eternal drag on an artist - you always have an audience out there, expecting, wanting, taking. Even when you give everything you have and have pain going on in your personal life, the audience has to be fed, and sometimes what they give back isn't enough
