@@AliothAncalagon I seriously doubt they were considering something like that. Besides the potential leaks caused from blowing the station apart, combined with the air lose from what was left behind in the other section of the station I think would far out weight any minor losses from surface area. Plus how much surface area would they really be saving? I wouldn't be half because when the station splits you have new sections that didn't use to be exposed to space to create new surface areas on. Plus I don't see how simply pumping the air out of those sections and into the main area wouldn't be a better approach. And if they can't do that well then blowing the station is really dumb idea cause you'd be leaving behind all that extra air.

the ISS has at the bare minimum 45 days of food, water and oxygen, if they where very recently resupplied they probably have more, how much i dont know and if they ration their supplies properly they could last much longer. after the earth ends it all comes down to how they want to live out their very much so numbered days, not untinkable at least a one person would decide to hop out of the airlock without a suit on, as time goes on and their supplies dwindle, desperation would have them turn on eachother and fight for what remains, odds are high the last remaining survivors would turn to cannibalism, the very last person to die would probably manage to hold on for perhaps 1 year, maybe a little more then that, assuming air filters and water recycling systems hold up. depending on how the earth ends they could seek refuge on earth after some time and manage to survive to old age in a deserted postapocalyptic world, if they are lucky they may perhaps run in to friendly survivors if any exists. the only thing i know for sure is that it would be tough being up there, helplessly watch as humanity is wiped out, all their loved ones, all their friends, gone, and all they can do is watch, unable to call them and have a final conversation, whatever was their last parting words, will forever be their last words to eachother.

First I was expecting some twist at the end. Earth isn't destroyed or something there equivalent. But this movie (based on this review) is a mess. Resource issues are only an issue when they need to be to progress the story. A 10 year mission for a three month travel time destination isn't even remotely credible - you are asking middle age parents to leave their children for more than half their childhood. The final message from Earth would have arrived long after the shock wave hit the station. They would have continued to receive old communications with Earth for days if not weeks afterwards. The operational status of the station without any continue support from Earth. The lack of arrivals from ships in mid transit to and from the colony who would be completely unaware of something having happened on Earth. And out of curiosity, does the movie even tell us what the other section of the station is intended for? Fuel production? Food production? It just seems to me they could cut off the life support to that section of the ship if it was adding stress to the remaining life support system without going through all the turmoil they went through to separate the two sections. I'm all for hit the "I believe" button a few times in SciFi movies and TV shows. But this movie feels like it was written by somebody whose entire writing background was romantic dime novels. Someone who is better at writing yet another Christmas romance movie for Hallmark than trying to put out a believable SciFi thriller.

"A 10 year mission for a three month travel time destination isn't even remotely credible - you are asking middle age parents to leave their children for more than half their childhood." So the counter-terrorist mission in Afghanistan wasn't plausible? Presumably it would be mainly people who don't have young children who would volunteer for the mission. :)
@superdave82482 жыл бұрын
@@neutrino78x Apples and oranges. Deployment tours can be as long as 1 year as as short as a few months depending on the unit and mission. Additionally, once the tour is over the troops would return home to their families. Three, soldiers aren't assigned to the same unit over and over again. They transition to other units every 1 - 3 years. So even if a unit had back to back deployments to support operations in Afghanistan, the odds of someone doing more than two tours there is fairly low. Unless they just have the bad luck to attach to another command which is slotted to do another deployment.
@neutrino78x2 жыл бұрын
@@superdave8248 Well, I think in the future being away for 10 years in space will be common; at 10% the speed of light, going to Proxima Centauri would take 45 years, that's just to get there. Presumably using nuclear for propulsion and habitation power. :) Enough nuclear fuel and enough hydrogen for reaction mass could potentially get you going a lot faster, 70% the speed of light, so like 8 years to get there... One thing we need to develop is cryosleep so long missions are not experienced by the crew. :)

@@FebiMaster indeed at relativistic speeds you will survive a voyage of hundreds of light-years because only a few decades will pass on the ship and you'll be in cryo sleep. How does a shock wave from Earth travel to Jupiter with enough energy to affect anything?
@jondo38172 жыл бұрын
i think it has something to do with the orbit of both at the time of explosion and the angle of the actual wave produced.
@konosmgr2 жыл бұрын
First of all a shockwave can't travel in vacuum.
@diogeneslamp80042 жыл бұрын
And the light from the explosion would arrive a long time before the shockwave, even if a shockwave in space were possible.

So how are we capable to explode an entire planet (!) but still take months to travel to Jupiter in a puny spaceship.
@prophecybydefault47082 жыл бұрын
We can do that right now yknow. All we would need to do is ignite a highly reactive material near the earth's core in massive quantities. Or just launch all the world's nukes at once.

@@Knolch true. But I'm still confused by something in this review....didn't they say there was a colony on Europa? Why not just go there? Have you seen the actual movie, Jakob? I have not.

interesting movie, but too bad it isn't explained why earth exploded and also why they didn't go to europa after the fight. both spaceships could've head to europa
@neutrino78x2 жыл бұрын
That's what got me, the summary seemed to say that people were living on a colony on Europa, why not just go there? How are they (in the ship) the last humans?

@zenekkamaz31972 жыл бұрын
Sad but true. Real human nature 1) Survive at all costs. 2) Believe in something even if you know and see it is not true. Earth explodes and stupid people want to go there to save their loved ones knowing that they are dead and there is nothing to come back for they will go. This is power of religion think about it.
