Seems to be the latest trend, making dystopian space movies where earth was gone by an unknown cause. I gotta say, the cause interests me more than the actual story of the movie.

they tried to get energy resources and something exploded is the best explination possibly a cold fusion reactor or something like the colider created an enormous explosion if there was enough time to send a signal to iss this means nasa was responsible for whatever happened or at the very least was aware hell it could have been a planet cracker weapon that was setoff from a satilite which wouldn't suprise me either.

So with 5 people on board, they only have 28 days of Oxygen and food. However, with only 1 person on board, he is able to live on the ship for YEARS alone until he finds the other ship? On top of that, there were also enough supplies on the second ship for her to stay alive for YEARS alone?

It didn't detailed why the 28 days. Most likely, it's oxygen that the ship can't replenish fast enough. That's why they want to split the ship in the first place, so the ship won't overwork throughout the whole ship and only focus on a room or 2. Don't think food and fuel is the issue of 28 days.

Supposed Scientist, "We should split the ship in two to save on Oxygen use." Gotta love faulty logic of authors righting sci-fi. The Oxygen is used by people breathing it in, not from having a larger room. Unless they pump all the Oxygen filling the rooms on the other section of the station they will end up with LESS oxygen.

A spaceship with twice as much surface area will actually leak twice as much. I highly doubt that this was thought through by the producers and such leakage is usually not that significant unless you are superlong in space without supplies, but I didn't want to ignore that possibility.
@PyroMancer2k
@PyroMancer2k 2 жыл бұрын
@@AliothAncalagon I seriously doubt they were considering something like that. Besides the potential leaks caused from blowing the station apart, combined with the air lose from what was left behind in the other section of the station I think would far out weight any minor losses from surface area. Plus how much surface area would they really be saving? I wouldn't be half because when the station splits you have new sections that didn't use to be exposed to space to create new surface areas on. Plus I don't see how simply pumping the air out of those sections and into the main area wouldn't be a better approach. And if they can't do that well then blowing the station is really dumb idea cause you'd be leaving behind all that extra air.

@@MK1vids shockwaves are just pressure waves through a medium of some kind. The earth doesn't have enough material to produce a shockwave out to that distance. In addition for an explosion to be that bright from that far and for the earth to be gone would require such a large amount of energy that it's only describable in relation to something else and even then imagining it is hard. The absolute minimum energy required would equal the same amount that our sun produces in a week and it would have to be delivered near instantly. So in essence no not possible.

If they are on the ISS when a meteor of the serious size strikes, they would be at high risk from ejecta at least on the side the meteor strikes, even if they are not close to the point of impact. The MIR space station almost was in a similar situation. In 1988 the Soviet Union collapsed and their space program collapsed too because of no funding or pay. The single occupant Valeri Polyakov was up there alone for 14 months.

the ISS has at the bare minimum 45 days of food, water and oxygen, if they where very recently resupplied they probably have more, how much i dont know and if they ration their supplies properly they could last much longer. after the earth ends it all comes down to how they want to live out their very much so numbered days, not untinkable at least a one person would decide to hop out of the airlock without a suit on, as time goes on and their supplies dwindle, desperation would have them turn on eachother and fight for what remains, odds are high the last remaining survivors would turn to cannibalism, the very last person to die would probably manage to hold on for perhaps 1 year, maybe a little more then that, assuming air filters and water recycling systems hold up. depending on how the earth ends they could seek refuge on earth after some time and manage to survive to old age in a deserted postapocalyptic world, if they are lucky they may perhaps run in to friendly survivors if any exists. the only thing i know for sure is that it would be tough being up there, helplessly watch as humanity is wiped out, all their loved ones, all their friends, gone, and all they can do is watch, unable to call them and have a final conversation, whatever was their last parting words, will forever be their last words to eachother.

@@hiuto2 you are confusing it with an Atmospheric Incendiary Torpedo which does exactly what you described. That was used by Horus on Istvaan. A Cyclonic Stage 2 Torpedo drills into the Planet (in mere Minutes) until it reaches the Core and detonates it's huge payload, completly destroying the Planet, turning it into an Asteroid Field. There is another Exterminatus which smaller Cyclonic (Stage 1) Torpedoes are lauched to specific tectonic Points of the Planet. After they drilled into the Mantle, they start rotating against the Planets direction of Rotation. By doing that, huge, continental sized Chunks of the Planet are removed. Basically the Planet ripps itself appart, by it's own Rotation. Watch Luetin09's Video about Exterminatus.

First I was expecting some twist at the end. Earth isn't destroyed or something there equivalent. But this movie (based on this review) is a mess. Resource issues are only an issue when they need to be to progress the story. A 10 year mission for a three month travel time destination isn't even remotely credible - you are asking middle age parents to leave their children for more than half their childhood. The final message from Earth would have arrived long after the shock wave hit the station. They would have continued to receive old communications with Earth for days if not weeks afterwards. The operational status of the station without any continue support from Earth. The lack of arrivals from ships in mid transit to and from the colony who would be completely unaware of something having happened on Earth. And out of curiosity, does the movie even tell us what the other section of the station is intended for? Fuel production? Food production? It just seems to me they could cut off the life support to that section of the ship if it was adding stress to the remaining life support system without going through all the turmoil they went through to separate the two sections. I'm all for hit the "I believe" button a few times in SciFi movies and TV shows. But this movie feels like it was written by somebody whose entire writing background was romantic dime novels. Someone who is better at writing yet another Christmas romance movie for Hallmark than trying to put out a believable SciFi thriller.

"A 10 year mission for a three month travel time destination isn't even remotely credible - you are asking middle age parents to leave their children for more than half their childhood." So the counter-terrorist mission in Afghanistan wasn't plausible? Presumably it would be mainly people who don't have young children who would volunteer for the mission. :)

@@neutrino78x Apples and oranges. Deployment tours can be as long as 1 year as as short as a few months depending on the unit and mission. Additionally, once the tour is over the troops would return home to their families. Three, soldiers aren't assigned to the same unit over and over again. They transition to other units every 1 - 3 years. So even if a unit had back to back deployments to support operations in Afghanistan, the odds of someone doing more than two tours there is fairly low. Unless they just have the bad luck to attach to another command which is slotted to do another deployment.

@@superdave8248 Well, I think in the future being away for 10 years in space will be common; at 10% the speed of light, going to Proxima Centauri would take 45 years, that's just to get there. Presumably using nuclear for propulsion and habitation power. :) Enough nuclear fuel and enough hydrogen for reaction mass could potentially get you going a lot faster, 70% the speed of light, so like 8 years to get there... One thing we need to develop is cryosleep so long missions are not experienced by the crew. :)

In the future, time and aging will be a resource, crews will be in space for decades, their families will age and die, it will happen if humanity wants to expand anywhere else in the solar system and beyond, we just need to shorten the time and the risk of microgravity significantly
@neutrino78x
@neutrino78x 2 жыл бұрын
@@FebiMaster indeed at relativistic speeds you will survive a voyage of hundreds of light-years because only a few decades will pass on the ship and you'll be in cryo sleep. But your friends and family will have passed away. So relativity puts a speed limit but it also does us a favor; that time difference makes it survivable.

Sad but true. Real human nature 1) Survive at all costs. 2) Believe in something even if you know and see it is not true. Earth explodes and stupid people want to go there to save their loved ones knowing that they are dead and there is nothing to come back for they will go. This is power of religion think about it.
