Shannon, thank you for posting this all those years ago. After more than a 2 year hiatus because of Covid we (Al, the Pockets and myself) begin gigging again. We will be at the City Winery in Atlanta on March 3rd and go on from there. Sure hope we get up to Oregon again soon. I've used this video to brush up on things, and it's been very helpful. Thanks you, and thanks everyone for all he nice comments:) Marc

I have now seen Al so many times over the last 10 years that I feel like I know him. His stories and jokes between songs are as memorable as his songs, but man, does this guy know how to connect with his audience. He expects you to be as well read as he is, which makes the show so much more fun. Plus, the juxtaposition of Al Stewart, the rock star trapped inside an accountant's body (and wardrobe), makes his stories of rooming with Keith Richards and the like that much more amazing. I NEVER miss him when he's on tour in my part of the country.

Drove from Central New Brunswick, Canada a few weeks ago to see Al in Derry, NH. Well worth the drive! I hadn't heard of the Empty Pockets prior to this, but was very impressed with their portion of the show as well as their backing of Mr. Stewart. Bought two of their CDs at the show and looking forward to more. Loved Youth Vaping and Queen of LA. Hoping to see them again sometime soon, either on their own or with Al.

I was so happy to have been able to meet the man who I saw in my VERY first concert in 1975 at the War Memorial in Trenton, NJ, Ans whose music I love so much and I really hope he liked the 2016 Barolo I brought the next day before he left our area. I'm not sure we will ever see the likes of this kind of music again. So many great songs and ballads of the long play variety That tell a story as well as take your imaginations to different world. As I grow older I appreciate both the skill and talent it takes to hear a small snippet of an instrumental song and turn it into this great story. This live version is great, but the studio version is still my favorite.

Don't forget that this song and the YOTC album, were produced, arranged and recorded by Alan Parsons, the genius recording engineer at Abbey Road Studios in London. The session musicians were all friends of Parsons, that he used in his own part-time band "The Alan Parsons Project". Most notably Tim Renwick and Peter White on guitars, Peter Wood on Keyboards, Stuart Elliot on drums and the magical Phil Kenzie played that incredible alto-sax. Parsons' genius in turning folk songs into rock masterpieces earned him legendary status. He also produced and recorded many other bands, most notably The Beatles and Pink Floyd!
@Lunatic4Bizcas3 жыл бұрын
Wow. Thanks for that info. I was completely unaware that Parsons produced the album. I'm a huge fan of Alan Parsons as well, but it is not too surprising being that the similarities in certain arrangements and soundscapes is quite striking.

I saw Al Stewart and his fantastic band in 1976 in Miami and it was one of my all time favorites. They did something I've never seen before or since, the switched instruments constantly, between every song, I'm talking major switching, not just one or two guys, all of them, I don't know if that was just for show, or because that's how they wrote the songs, but they played them perfectly, some of the best musicians I've ever heard, or seen.
