I do think most of the serpent list really shouldn't count. Sure, they are the same general shape as snakes, but they are clearly meant to be something else. Except for Zygarde, which I think is definitely supposed to be a snake. But putting them all into an honorable mention list was a good compromise, since I'm sure people would have asked about them if you had left them off. Personally, I would have put Serperior at the top and Snivy right below it. And I never played Gen 5, so I promise I'm not biased. I just really like snakes, and they always seemed like such fun designs to me.

Eastern dragons are based primarily on snakes, so they can fit on a list like this (western dragons are also partially based on snakes, but they're a whole mismash of things so it's arguable if they count). The eels are a bit harder to justify, though.

Some months ago I did a survey where I asked people to choose the Pokemon they like best out of a bunch of Pokemon that I personally related to each Zodiac sign. I highly doubt many people listened to that since they genuine picked Rattata lol. I shouldn't have told them it was the Zodiac but come on they'd have figured it out! ANYWAY, the top pick was Serperior at 15.5% with Seviper, Arbok, and Dratini all tied at 12.6%. Giratina followed at 11% then Hydrapple at 7% and Milotic at 6.4%. I included a bunch of others, some even being not snakes (because it was a vibe thing, not a logic thing) but those were the only noticeably significant entries.

While watching, I can't help to think about Ekans in Let's Go. You always picture it as this coiled up snake that's kinda large and fat but no, actually no. Rayquaza is your favourite legendary but you don't even pronounce it's name right. Also Dipplin only evolves into Hydrapple while Flapple and Appletun evolve from Applin. Serperior does have a small pair of arms behind it's back. Seviper's purple markings are actually meant to resemble scars from a Zangoose as in gen 3 Zangoose has purple claws, meanwhile Zangoose's red markings are meant to be scars from a Seviper's red fangs and tail blade, this is an element of their design that people tend to miss especially because Zangoose's claws were changed to black, their shiny colours however keep this detail with correct corresponding colours.
@mastermarkus53075 сағат бұрын
I think that Serperior is definitely my favourite. I'm a little shocked that you put Onix and Arbok above it, but it's a matter of taste and you said you didn't like Gen 5. I'm not the biggest fan of Gen 5, like I don't get the hype around N and Team Plasma (apart from the fact that Pokémon fans are starved for story), but I did like a fair amount of the Pokémon introduced in that generation.

Are you gonna mention the biblical reference with Snivy turning into a snake with no legs and having the Contrary ability (which in japan is called 'Devil's Advocate') I read it in a crappy pokemon theory ebook and I don't think enough people comment on that particular one...I mean it's not that much of a stretch to me... Just kind of a oh yeah that makes sense... Also I've always thought Eternatus reminded me of that big long Snake thing from Avengers? Also I've always thought Dunsparce was a combination of Dunce and Sparce... And it is one of my favorite pokemon... but that's only a recent thing... I'd say it started when I did a normal type only playthrough of HGSS... i never actually beat Lance... but Dunsparce was one of my favorite pokemon... Then Later when I played SS for the second time (first with DLC) I decided I wanted a custom starter (by just...having a low level pokemon in my pc and dumping the one they gave me) and I had Grace the Dunsparce and Snowy the Vulpix... Also Also there was this fanfic I really liked where someone had a Dunsparce as their starter... it only had like 2 chapters, but I really liked it... Anyway I guess my love of Dunsparce started out as "Oh he's kind of sad and pathetic" to "Oh I feel bad for him" and then "I'm not loving this ironically anymore... I sold Full Art Volo to buy trainer gallery dunsparce...and me human traficking him is why he beat me so bad in Legends" also it has serene grace... which is pretty good... EDIT so that book lied about Contrary being called "Devil's Advocate..." sort of... It's japanese name is 'Amanujaku' though from what I'm reading on Wikipedia it does still fit the biblical theme... given the whole "Convinces people to do bad stuff" aspect...

Get y'all popcorn, this is going to be a long read! *I strongly advise if you don't like paragraphs, to scroll...instead of verbally attacking me and devaluing the time and effort my comment took.* Let's have a productive conversation, no immature and negative comments. Thanks, hope you enjoy the read! *CONVERSION PORTION:* Personally, I think that the serpent category was unnecessary for the video and strayed away from the title of the video. It personally made me want the skip to why I clicked on the video to begin with, the *ACTUAL* snake Pokémon and their ranking. But I gave the section a listen, fighting the urge, and I was deeply confused with this section and the candidacy of the Pokémon listed. The term "serpent" is more general and often refers to a snake or snake-like creature...but the descriptor says "body". It is meant to describe the build of the Pokémon in general. Pokémon like Mimikyu, Gastrodon, Burmy/Wormadam, Pupitar, Goomy/Sliggoo, Clawitzer, and Cresselia (to name a few) are classified as the "serpentine" build in the Shape via the Pokedex...but common sense is that those aren't actually snakes. Pokémon that are SERPENT shaped and Daragon types like Dratini and Dragonair, Gyarados, Hydreigon, Giratina-Origin, Drampa, and Rayquaza should more likely be in a Dragon Zodiac ranking video than this Snake Zodiac ranking video. They are separate signs for a reason...snakes are the real-life species while Dragons are the make-believe/folklore/mythical/deity/ snake-like creatures. The word, "serpentine/serpent" are more used via literacy...used for describing draconic/reptilian creatures. Here is a Bulbapedia quote on the Serpentine shape Pokedex icon: "The head has become even more oblong to give off the appearance of a slithering body. Some noteworthy characteristics are that Pokémon within this group tend to be based on snakes, gastropods, and certain elongated arthropods." Gastropods and Arthropods are not snakes, but they are cluttered into the classification of the Serpentine shape, ...so trusting this categorization and descriptor will lead to divisiveness. In the video section of "Serpents", you do go over some of the Pokémon's origin...which aren't related mythological or real-life snake species, but you completely ignored that information and still classified them as viable in the list. Did you need For example, you literally said yourself Gorebyss is more eel-like. Yes, it's design is based off of the snipe eel/chimaera eel. Huntail based on multiple deep sea eels species including the viper eel. And Eelektrik was left off the list for that same reason. But why then do you put both Huntail and Gorebyss in the list, and Eelekrik out...all being eel-bassed Pokémon? It contradicts what you said for Centiskorch and Eelektrik. I don't see a valid reasoning. Speaking of, Centiskorch was off the list yet you added Giratina Origin...same issue here. It isn't a grey area at all, they definitely shouldn't have been honorable mention and should of not been in the video to begin with. *Maybe you can explain your viewpoint and perspective so that me and people that interact with this comment can gain a better understanding. Maybe clear up some confusion and answered some unanswered thoughts/questions in people's mind when watching this video.* *Conclusion* *Hopefully I make some good points and I'm not trying to come off as negative, just critical, using my logic, and wanting to add to the discussion. Like you said in 1:40 in the video. And I'm actually happy that you went the extra mile in doing some sort of research and made a secondary honorable mention-esqe section. It really shows the quality of work and dedication you put into the videos and the channel as a whole. But again, I found it to be filled with flaws as described in this very comment. Hopefully, people don't attack ANYONE for speaking opinion and reaction to the choices. For me, its just feedback as a viewer. For you, it's your valid opinion. There should be respect for each individual. Saying this as a precaution for those actively writing up negativity in this thread. To me, it's fine to have opposing opinions and shaming someone for not aligning to your beliefs and opinions is pure immoral. And plus it's just a pixelated game at the end of the day, it shouldn't be that serious haha. But yeah! Thanks for making this video and I dropped a follow :) Hopefully I didn't come off as harsh toned. I don't mean to, just very over passionate on topics that I enjoy * SIdenote: Although I disagree with a lot of your choices, opinions ( like your opinion on Gen 5 being the worst games, opinion on the Sandaconda ranking, Gorebyss and Huntail slander/ranking/candidacy, Serviper being boring and its ranking, and Servine being middle stage syndrone and doesn't stand out/ranking...probably more I'm forgetting) BUT of course your opinions are valid for you and potentially others that agree. I would honestly want to hear more from your perspective of why you dislike Gen 5, maybe as a video. Edit: Made the formatting easier to read, fixed spelling errors, added *bold text* to emphasize or an important section. Added more discussion I forgot to mention.

This video… worries me. Are you okay? Like what is going on to have you think these are snakes? Being a dragon or sea serpent isn’t snake adjacent it’s just a different creature entirely. Dratini, dragonair and zygarde are just outright snakes yet you place just a bunch of nonsense over top of them. You do realize the labels they give Pokémon in the dex are basically nonsense right? The category has next to no bearing on what the Pokémon actually is. What sources are you looking at that call a centipede and eels snakes because that’s just next level insanity
