i know there's always that joke about how sports anime make the sport much more entertaining than in real life, but honestly volleyball can still get you on the edge of your seat, even if you're not like a super avid fan of the sport. during the season, i'd go watch Stanford Women's Volleyball and those games get REALLY intense (esp since the team tends to be the top of their league, so they're objectively very skilled too)

It’s so intense! I love watching and playing. I prefer men’s though because I am a man lol but no really I just like how much more power and intensity comes with men’s volleyball. Watching the men’s national teams go at it and so intense, I love it. Serves at 70-80 mph

I never understood how sports anime got people into wanting to *watch* the sport irl, they only ever make me want to PLAY the sport irl 🤭 I already played most of them anyways, but tennis and baseball are ones I specifically got interested in because of anime and that I was very disinterestedin trying before, and I ended up being shocked how much fun to play they are...still hate watching them though, lol.

Jump float serve here is real and used in matches but they only exaggerate the movement of the ball to add more hype in anime

Clyde Alvarez the reason it looks like that is because it has no momentum. If you’re ready to receive a killer serve, you’ll basically have to make the ball bounce off of your arms, but since a jump floater has no momentum, it’ll look like that because the players are trying to force it up on the stir of the moment

Bruh... Every time I hear Ukai's words, "That's cruel..." I can't help but feel like crying, it really is sad knowing that if Hinata and Kageyama had met as kids, they'd have had a bond as strong as Oikawa and Iwa (It probably would've outdone them in all honesty since they're not afraid to try new things). My heart just breaks because they didn't get that chance... and our boy Shoyo had to suffer learning to love volleyball all on his own, it damn near breaks me, however, the author of this anime/mange knew what he was doing because he made me feel like this. Amazing scriptwriting.

ive seen this "highlight" of a volleyball player doing a jump floater serve, it was crazy.. if you watch real volleyball and you put it in slowmotion, those balls really do bend like that, and those freak combo attacks, it does really happened in real life.. This is what I love about Haikyuu! they dont just randomly write the anime, they study it.

the float serve is actually possible in volleyball. Its the same as to what in soccer is called 'knuckleball' a weird movement that the ball does in the air after shooting it with raw power. An example would be Cristiano ronaldo because he is a specialist performing this technique.
