Awesome build, and thank you for some ideas for my F150 build. I do want to caution you, I am a Ford Technician, and there may come a time when the cab will need to be lifted off the frame for repairs. (mainly engine work etc). With the cables running in the frame rail like that and into the body, it will make it difficult for the cab to be lifted. Having seen many vehicles with different types of installs and wiring, I just wanted to share what I have come across. A different route that follows the vehicles radio antenna into the cab would also work well, and would eliminate the wires going into the frame. Just my 2 cents. I cant wait to get mine started. 73, KJ5HSF Steve

Just happened across your video, wondering if you was a amateur radio channel, or what. I see a couple of videos, mostly other.... anyways not a bad, and simple setup. With newer trucks and auto's it's getting harder to mount stuff in the units we drive. There are only a few radio mounting companies out there to find the stuff we need to mount are items. 👍on your installation

Hello, it’s not an amateur channel yet. I may take it in that direction in the future. Thanks for the comment.

How is the speaker in the head? I'm wonding if it would be good on the dash of a Jeep Wrangler? I can't hear my FTM300 going down the road with the top and doors off. It's either add an external speaker or try a 500

The speaker in the head is great. It loud and clear. Not an amazing speaker but it is really good. I can hear mine with the windows down

Looks great! Does your mic cable just go under the carpet? Or do you go through the console?
@christaylor915110 ай бұрын
It runs under the seat, under the carpet all the way to behind the rear seats and then up into the box

Have you noticed any interference with running the power wire next to the antenna wire into the cab? I've had issues with doing similar runs for speaker cables and was curious if this happens with your HAM radio as well.
@christaylor91516 ай бұрын
I have not noticed any interference at all.

Chris, what is the power cable hooked to in the engine bay? Upfitter switch wiring or direct to battery? I have same truck and would like to copy same install...so clean! I was thinking of wiring to Aux1 upfitter switch which is 15 amp relay...should be enough for tx on 50W.
@christaylor91516 ай бұрын
It’s hooked directly to the battery. I thought about the upfitter but didn’t want to overload those thin wires ford installed in it. So I ran it directly to the battery

@@christaylor9151 Good deal, thanks. I went to the battery direct for the install also. I still can't figure how to get the mic cord under the carpet, but I did the exact same install/parts as you. I've had several HAM's see and ask about the setup and parts used......clean! Thanks man!

To get under the carpet I used a coat hanger. I ran it from under the drivers seat (opening for the electrical from the factory) to under the back seat. That is what took me the longest for the installation process.

How much extra wiring did you have to purchase ‘
@christaylor91516 ай бұрын
I had to purchase the power wire from Lowe’s and extra mic wire and head unit extension wire
@christaylor91516 ай бұрын
Just the tri wire and extension wires for the head unit and mic.
