You are such a gem. I tried to nominate you for knighthood recognition, but the website requires personal information and “letters from at least 2 other, like-minded fans.” You’d think 25.5K followers might indicate a mutual admiration society😂. You have added tremendous value to Great Britain’s recognition for printmaking arts; your generosity and teaching abilities are unmatched and you bring real value to people world-wide with these You Tube videos. Well, you’re Sir Mark Yeates to your followers, regardless.

I would be very cool, if you try a photo transfer with 3 of the same images, but they are all a bit of center from the first layer so the image get this 3D sort of effect in red, blue and black. Hope you get what i'am talking about hehe. It's basically the 3D cheat that i'am trying to master. Love to see your version of it. Thanks for awesome content and a ton of inspiration. I've just tried canvas board for a collage. Wanted to do another one integrating gel press monoprinting with the collage next time. Your ideas are great jumping off points. And I thank you very much for inspiring us. Here's a question for your creative mind. I'm wondering how to hang my canvas board artwork now. Dont really want to buy a frame. Have you any ideas how to make artwork on canvas board good to hang on a wall? I mean both the actual technical how to hang it, plus making the board profile look "finished." Thanks so much, Mark
@yeatesmakes2 жыл бұрын
Wood glue a really thin horizontal baton of wood to the back of the board. you can then hang it directly from that or add a couple of eyelet screws and wire : )

Before I start I gesso the canvas and then sand smooth. Sometimes 2 or 3 times until it's really smooth. Wear a dust mask when sanding gesso, and also when sanding your painting/print

I only slightly agree with your assessment of this piece as being like a sketchbook page. I think the only that tends to make it seem like that is the nearly-equal division of the picture space into horizontal thirds, and the large central area of only pattern. Otherwise, it's lovely and has some evocative characteristics. I also really like the piece you blotted and/or masked with, which appears at 3:23 on the timeline. That would make a great collage piece to use as a part of a layered background, grunge texture pre-supplied.
@yeatesmakes2 жыл бұрын
Cheers for comments as always, I love them. I have a fairly big stack of textured offcuts, blotting sheets etc accumulating. Was thinking of experimenting with them and resin on larger surfaces, we'll see. Will be a project for when the winter relents a little!

This sounds intriguing - does the oil help it adhere to the transfer surface to or do you have to seal it?
@chrisruss98612 жыл бұрын
The canvas board is a great idea. I have found wintergreen oil soaked on back of photocopy transfers well but that is not in the spirit of gelli transfer which gives a nice grunge look. The photocopy transfer can be a bit strong. Useful for mixed media work, though.
@yeatesmakes2 жыл бұрын
Interesting tips here Chris, I'll look into wintergreen oil, sounds like a fascinating technique

How is it that the magazine image transfer to the gel? is it because of the pigment or the magazine paper? I never used gel before, so im trying to get the science of it Lol... By the way love this can't wait to try this thank you

Instead of using water to clean off the bird drawing you could have used baby-wipes. Not promoting the product. It saves time and trouble. It really works well to clean your geli plate as well. Thank you for sharing.

I just enjoy your videos so much, but I have been unsuccessful with the laser transfers, still trying though, not stopping, I got one to work and I think it is cause of the rather high contrast. But I like your work so much! I like how you show your successes, but continue.. great wonderful!
@AngelBomb50002 жыл бұрын
I had a lot of problems with image transfers in the beginning. I was so concerned about “too much paint” that I was actually using too LITTLE and it wasn’t enough to pick up the image. Also switched to the Amsterdam paints and that helped. But the biggest breakthrough was the PAPER I was using for the laser print! I had been using standard copy paper without great luck. Then I switched to Hammermill paper for laser prints.. it’s silky smooth and transfers easily. Also found that it’s not so much the pressure you use (light or heavy) but the TIME. Give it a few seconds for the paper to absorb the paint. Keep peeking to see the progress. I’ve been able to do both high and low contrast prints this way. Keep experimenting! Don’t give up!
@yeatesmakes2 жыл бұрын
High contrast really helps, but when transferring my own print outs its definitely printing in colour settings on laser printer as well as working quick with a thin layer of paint.
@kateveneroso57542 жыл бұрын
@@yeatesmakes I only have a black and white lazer and so far it has not worked, so I am going down to the local print shop and see if I can do a color print out and try that. I love the work you do and thanks for helping me,

Hi there .. congrats on your awesome videos love all your ideas! I being working with the gelli plate for while but I cannot get a picture transfer not matter what try. What it might doing wrong? I used laser printer black and white and color, tried magazines and others papers without a good result . Need help. Thanks for sharing all your knowledge.
@yeatesmakes2 жыл бұрын
Try a thin layer of paint, heavy body like Amsterdam or Dlaer Rowney graduate. I think Golden is popular in US but I've not tried it. Don't hang around as the paint on the paint needs to be wet. Really light touch with fingertips / palms when transferring. Try about 10 secs transfer time to start with. Most important, persevere : )
