He didn't _want_ to betray Chaekyung but Hyorin was his friend first before she was his kinda gf. And you could clearly see his conflicting feelings through his restlessness the whole time before and on Thailand trip. He was disturbed and unsatisfied that there was still something unfinished between him and Hyorin, so, as a form of closure and farewell to cut their romantic ties with each other, Shin spent time with Hyorin. He let her kiss him because it was her last selfish wish that he could grant her but he stood firmly still and never kissed back. Things about him are just very very complicated. It gotten out of hand because he kept everything a secret and to himself: lack of communication and his closed up personality. He's just the kind of guy that you'll have to endure for a while before he finally cleans up his act and start opening up.

This is a really good explanation! We always put ourselves in Chae-kyung's shoes and get angry at Shin. Shin is also in a dead end between his feelings. Shin had a lonely childhood. He's a gentleman too, trying not to offend HyoRin directly. HyoRin sensed that as well. Hence I guess the music video with song title Statue really sums up Shin's perspective. I read a few reviews after my first watch and have been rewatching. I love the character development of the story. Grandma- the anchor.

Wouldn’t it be more exciting if JJK and YEH make a drama together again and see now the difference in their acting … a season 2 will be better . More curiosity. He is not outright a cruel character, so in my mind I justify the character decisions as not wanting to lie. Yes he was peeved about his wife running to another man before him, reminder she has done this a few times before. Shin clearly told her he needs her support so it is combined frustration on his side that he is falling in love with a girl who has other priorities. I think he eventually would have called her, but Hyorin shows up unexpectedly confuses him. At this point he has clearly accepted his marriage, he is getting fond of his bride but he is harbouring guilt that he hurt Hyorin. So he wanted to put the past to rest so he can move on in his life. If he called his wife he would have to lie about Hyorin, the truth he cannot say, so he chooses to avoid the subject. I think he just couldn’t get himself to call because it would have been fake, in that way it shows respect for his wife she deserved better than some half baked lies. His reaction was genuine when he landed he was happy to see her, disappointed that she pushed him away, he consoles her and promises next time they go together. About the gift yeah he is an asshole there, he never bought anything for anyone so it makes sense that he has no clue about such things. Also he doesn’t lie about getting the gift he is harsh but he doesn’t do pretend so that is consistent.

2020 Still love this series. First time I watched this, I think the Prince was kind of a jerk. But after re-watching this, I realized that he's basically saying goodbye (finally) to Heo-rin. Both of them didn't really have a proper closure. Also, Shin, I think, was starting to realize that he likes or starting to get fond (not yet love) of his wife, and he's giving it a chance. After this episode, Shin started to ignore Hyo-rin and always get really jealous of Yul

Agreed. ​Hyorin totally manipulated Thailand and put Shin in a real difficult situation. She told him: “Either take me back to the airport or I stay here with you”. Shin did what was best and decided right away to take her back to the airport. He already decided then that will be a farewell event for them. Still, he tried to handle the situation as gentle and respectful as he could given that she’s his ex and friend after all and at the time probably wants them to at least still be in good terms. As for the kiss, HR initiated all of that and he did not return the kiss back. If anything he looked surprised. Again, I don’t think Shin “cheated” on CK while in Thailand. He was faced with a difficult scenario and I think he handled it as best as he could while still remained loyal to CK. His only fault was that he should’ve called her back but again, that was classic Shin “holding a grudge” behavior before he completely fell in love with CK and eventually changing him into a warm, loving & caring husband.

I hate it when i always see that shin looks like he was stuck between two women and that he treated his wife badly at first. But after seeing his cousin was interested in his wife shin got angry and yelous and realizes he loves his wife i so wished that there were some more angry parts of the main actress that she would treat him the cold shoulder but she is way too soft.
