A few things that might help you out for defense: 1) creating double walls will stop sappers and other pawns from breaking them, instead they will bottleneck at doors or 1 tile thick walls. 2) the strength of the raids is determined by your wealth, which is primarily calculated by what is in your stockpiles. Poorer colonies have weaker raids. 3) you can zig zag traps in your corridor if its 2 wide. Your pawns will move between them while enemies will move through them. 4) the AI loves doors and will actively attack them if they can't find a target. 5) train your animals to haul. They can save you a lot of time by doing the dumb labour for you. 6) if you have any carnivore pets, like dogs, fed them kibble, a diluted meat mix. 7) if you like warcrimes, you can kill pawns by trapping them in rooms with excessive heat or smoke 8) if you want to get rich quick, become an organ farmer. Hope this helps.

One thing to keep in mind if you dont know, is that all skills slowly degrade over time based upon how much of that skill has, so its almost impossible to maintain full 20 lvl stats, its possible if you do that one task alot, but it degrades pretty fast at high levels, i use a mod to disable the skill decay, but just a headsup if your looking to max his stats out. You really don't have to put statues in the stockpile room. The short time they are in there is hardly affecting any moods. The only thing that could get annoying is if the stockpile zone gets too big the take a longer time getting through to vacant spaces so it migth be recomended to leave a walkable patch free of any zoneing and maybe even put some floor down. But those are all tasks for later if the zone is bigger, or if you want to have additional zones going further into the mountain.

20:40 Humanfriend, literally, just about wandered into the trap. One thing you can do is a huge zoned area. Or more accurately, a small off limits area. If you want an area that you don't want people going into, you can zone it, then you invert the zone. Making it cover the entire area, and leaving a small space where your colonists won't go. That should, in theory, keep them out of your traps until you want them to rebuild them. You would just need to switch that colonist between the different zones. Hope this helps. And best of luck.

I also have one called "Sick" where I have a scheduled penox on there (or other drugs that help when they are sick or infected with some mods I have). Yup, Bjorn Stronginthearm did a lot of good Rimworld Science videos a few years back; temperature transmits through single blocks. In order to completely stop them from going over the spike traps, you need to create a new zone, select the whole map and then just unselect those tiles. Quickest way would be to create a new area, select those tiles the spike traps are on, and then invert. The only problem with this is they usually wont fix broken traps that way. Make sure to leave any of your colony in the home zone, that way it is automatically set up to be repaired/replaced if its destroyed. And add some doors to your big exterior walls!

@ ambiguousamphibian - 18:27 - Tips Distance to the target affects accuracy. You can see the values if you move the cursor over the target while you are shooting. If you want to train shooting skill, use weapons that have a high rate of fire. You get exp per shot and that will increase the ratio. Be careful normally very fast weapons tend to be shorter range and low damage. The chance for an animal to trigger "man hunter", depends on the distance, shooting skill and if it dealt damage or not with your shot. Farther = better and less chance to trigger "man hunter". That's why hunting rifles and snipers are the best.

I love both game's art styles too. Though it's also fun to see so much stuff added to PZ as I go. I def like piloting series more than anything else, so I suppose Rimworld since it's still at its inception right now if I had to decide on the basis of that. @@ambiguousamphibian late but this is actually an awful way to feed your animals. "Never plant anything and let animals graze on it, it's a massive waste of time and resources. You will get so much more out of it by letting the crops finish growing and then harvesting them. A live plant gives a trivial amount of nutrition. If you want animals to graze let them graze on wild grass that spreads automatically without any colonist effort. The point of hay is it provides 50% more nutrition per day compared to normal crops. It's the most effective food crop in the game in terms of both per tile yields and colonist work. Dandelions provide 0.18 nutrition with a base grow time of 2.5 days. Harvested rice provides 0.35 nutrition with a base grow time of 3 days. Harvested hay provides 1.15 nutrition with a base grow time of 7 days, and for comparison's sake unharvested hay only provides 0.20 nutrition, same for unharvested potatoes. Never let animals eat growing crops. Ever. There is no situation where it's worthwhile." -someone on steam who put it more succinctly than i ever could. *Hay growing zone stay out of animal zone, harvested hay stockpile zone go in animal zone.* The only reason it seems better to let them eat growing crops is because, yes, technically they won't run out of food so long as you can grow crops, but at the same time those colonists who are planting those crops are basically stuck in an endless loop of planting crops instead of literally anything else more productive. It's the *lazy* way, not the *good and smart* way.

Tracking hundreds of tips and best practices in a spreadsheet is waaaay dedicated! :D Your crafting spot is inefficiently far from where you're storing the smokeleaf. Your colonist is making a trek every time for 4 smokeleaf to make 1 joint. Just like with kitchen stoves, set a higher priority at least 1-square storage spot for smokeleaf next to the colonist AT the crafting spot -- that'll hold a full stack of ingredients. And drop on floor of course. That way, a single colonist can craft 6 joints without moving before they have to restock on ingredients. Or just make the ingredient storage spot 4 squares or whatever for smokeleaf only, and they'll never need to make the long hike to your storage room.

Create a choke point on the wall so when enemies attack most of them will flood that one open space. Some of them might try to destroy walls but it still works wonderfully, and once you get turrets that's when things will start to get fun ;))

Watching this series and I could not help but notice you have all these animals who can carry large amounts of things. You could train all of them to Haul so that when he deconstructs or mines the animals move it for him.

Don't worry about soil richness so much. Most crops will grow plenty well in normal soil. Grow hay in your pasture area so your grazing animals can graze the hay.
@ambiguousamphibian5 жыл бұрын
Indeed - I suppose it must make a difference more when you can afford to get only a small area planted and the returns must diminish as you grow your farms. Cool idea on the hay! I'd never thought of just directly growing it in their pastures, but that sounds pretty efficient!

you should start researching things, in my opinion, the Nutrient Paste Dispenser is really good for your colony, less food per meal and no necessity for a good cook

You could set the drug policy to anytime their mood or recreation drops below a certain %. Penoxycyline is safe to my knowledge. I haven't had any colonist start a binge on it yet.

Ah I'd like to try this out - this is definitely a nice way to have them not go crazy without having to do it manually. Thanks a lot Apocalypse! And I may take you up on that

After level 10, characters slowly lose gained experience over time, meaning they have to specialize/continuously practice the skills they want to improve. You'll have to install a mod that changes this if you want Lee to have stats higher than 10 across the board without micromanaging literally everything through him.
@ambiguousamphibian5 жыл бұрын
Good call! Thanks Pete! I think I might start just specializing him afterward, though this is super useful, as I didn't know 10 was the threshold

@@ambiguousamphibian Note that you can maintain higher ranked skills pretty easily without autistically spamming the same thing (as research drones or block cutters are wont to be set to do); "only" 3,500 XP is lost per day per colonist skill at level 20, and exp is earnt by time spent working on the job, not the expertise at which the job was done at.

As far as flooring goes- 1. The type of stone doesn't add to the beauty, marble is much better saved for statues etc 2. Carpet is the prettiest floor but gets dirty quick

as a recommendation for lighter i would have her be a paramedic/animal tender or paramedic/farmer if you get her good armor or a shield belt she can rescue colonists and combat since she cant participate directly, and has passions for both those tasks, in my playthroughs i tend to have verry large farm and lots of animals so often need 2 or more dedicated animal tenders and farmers also as a tip for pacifists and other pawns that cant defend themselves i tend to create an area inside of my outer walls called "base" and restrict certian colinists to that tzone like the ones that cant fight back or cant afford to get inured

Did you know, in some video games they use sound samples of animals in real pain. If you ever felt bad from a sound effect you're not crazy. Honestly look it up sometime on what ever search engine you use. Some folks are very disconnected and don't have empathy like some folks in this world. Me I just found it kind of a fun fact as an animal lover I always wondered why some sound effects slightly bothered me. And I know why now. Same with movies. Aliens, the sound they make when getting shot are elephants in a great deal of pain sampled and mixed up a bit.

Hi, I was wondering if it would be better to lock the animals inside the rich soil, since the grass grows fast in there. you could still plant on normal soil.

An interesting idea - I'm honestly wondering about how, exactly, nature replenishes itself in Rimworld - I haven't observed much, nor have I heard about it, but do trees seem more likely to spring up nearby other fully grow trees? Or similar growth patterns...for example?

You might know all of this, you might not, but a few tips: 1) 1 tile of overhead mountain doesn't matter, start worring on a 3x2 or bigger open tiles, that is, not including the walls; 2) if no colonist has 8/9 animal skill before the rhyno becomes wild again, make a hat out of it, if any colonist has 8/9 by that point, keep the rhyno, you can feed it kible, which is easy enough to make and it makes a very good battle animal, I believe only thrumbos are better, but you won't be taming thrumbos anytime soon; 3) never allow animals near drugs, specially alcohol, they tend to binge on it for some reason, so unless you want Bessie to have cirrhosis, keep her away from any drugs; 4) heat do pass through open doors and fast, not slowly, but in very small amounts, so the room with the bonfire will ALWAYS be hotter than every other room it has a door to; 5) rough stone do get dirty, better to have everything be smooth stone and clean it every once in a while than everything be clean roguh stone; 6) perma-summer means heat waves, find some camels, their fur makes an awesome duster in hot biomes, it's not the most protective, but you can swap around when it's not too hot; 7) if you don't want Randy to stomp you, NEVER stockpile, keep your wealth very very low; 8) MAKE SOME GODDAMN PEMMICAN!!!!!!!!!!! Pemmican does require both vegetables and meat, BUT, it lasts years compared to days of simple meals, also it is 160% efficient, compared to 100% of simple meals, doesn't inquire a buff nor a debuff, can be eaten by all animals and it's not wasteful, for instance, not every animal require 10 points of nutrition, since every unit of pemmican is 1 point, animals that require less will eat less, while with meals they'll eat a whole meal regardless, wasting resourses, so, MAKE SOME PEMMICAN! Nutrient paste is even more efficient, BUT, it gives a debuff and requires electricity, which means your colony will go hungry when power is out (and trust me, with Randy it WILL go out); also also, it's even more efficient than kible, which has 120% efficiency; 9) you can make traps out of stone, slate and granite are the best, BUT, they take a billion years to make so you just can't keep them around and replace as needed, you have to build them preemptively; 10) also about stone, prefer marble for furniture, granite for everything else, slate if you don't have granite, it's not as good but it's close enough, any other stone is useless; Edit: last thing I forgot, plasteel makes the very best traps, best damage and armour pierce, but it's expensive and takes forever to build, steel is the best material for traps, it's fast building and decent power, all around good;
