That was the time when people loved people. Remember the villain in those movies ? He used to be beaten up and then he apologised and became a good person thereafter. The villain in today's movies is not bashed up, but cut into pieces, with blood being shown spurting out of body parts. He is chopped into pieces. His neck is chopped off, with blood spurting 3-4 feet in the air. The impression of all this on the kids today is such that, they think it's normal !! All time classic, where everything just comes together perfectly. All elements of this song (musical composition, vocals, picturization, acting by both leads) work so well with the situatioj. Each standing tall on its own, simply, gracefully, but also working together. RD is a magician, and like SD, has some songs that are so simple, hummable by everyone that it almost feels so easy, which is the mark of a genius. Kishore is superlative in such songs that go straight to the heart. Rajesh Khanna and Asha Parekh chemistry is phenomenal. A simple stroll, exchange of glances, brief slight touch, realization and distancing. In shadow of the superstar and superlative music, Asha Parekh's constantly changing expressions may be underappreciated, the constant shift of joy, excitement, the 'maryada', the sadness. The picturization is so simple, but apt and does not get in the way of the story. An open, beautiful, but simple landscape. Enough space for expression, but with a small group, just enough people to maintain the intimacy, but distance. The song is 50 years old, but maintains the power to relax, forget what happened, look forward, be lost. Yeh shaam mastani, madhosh kiye jay. Forever!
