Sarah Besaw She does sell her work. I think they're usually commissioned, since she puts the price at the end of the finished piece. This series was for 35,000 yen

how do you get the effect of transparency? just by mixing colors to a lighter shade? or is there a special type of acrylic that can do that? My fav is the one with the blue hair... so cute!!

Jessica Fahey Art I'm gonna say that she mixes it to be a lighter shade and paints over. The paint looks thinner if you mix it with water.

Jessica Fahey Art There's actually a medium that can be mixed with the paint to make a sort of glaze. A lot of painters use it for water.

Jessica Fahey Art I know in some of her other pieces that she just mixes a lighter shade. In this particular instance, there is some mixed media going on (the black appeared to be an ink), so there also lies the possibility of tempera paint creating the transparency. Another likely solution is that both translucent and transparent acrylic paint exist. I'd look into it!
