Yellow Sticker Madness - Too Good To Go Surprise Bag from Morrisons 10/1/24

Is this the first one of the new year? Not sure... Happy New Year regardless!
In showing the TGTG app to a colleague I saw there was a bag available at my usual Morrisons store, with a very flexible collection window, so I pounced!
Inevitably I grabbed some other items while there, the Christmas clearances were very heavily reduced.
Not convinced there was a tenner's worth in the bag though 😒

Well, I've had my response from TGTG who do not see an issue. Their response in full: "Hello dear Chris Thank you for the feedback regarding your recent visit. We would like to remind you that the goods you rescue through Too Good To Go are usually whatever a store will no longer offer for sale. As we call it Surprise Bag, the products are provided randomly and at a more affordable price than their original price. From the information you have provided, we consider the items to be worthy compared to the price you have paid, and close to the advertised value of £10. In the meantime, we do take food safety claims very seriously, so if you ever encounter visible mold or a rotten taste or smell, please get in touch with us so we can properly address the situation. Thank you for using Too Good To Go. We hope you will join us for another adventure rescuing food again soon! All the best, [name removed] TGTG expert." So I thought I'd best check and went on to the Morrisons site! Basil £0.85 Parsley £1.39 Broccoli £1.58 Greens £1.29 Tomatoes £0.60 (based on pack of 6) Spring onions £0.55 (around a third of these were not usable) Oranges £1.62 (assuming these are The Best extra large oranges, based on pack of 4) Carrots £0.65 (the cost of a 1kg bag, I didn't weigh my bag) Total £8.53 So I think I have a right to be disappointed! It's not as if I demanded a full refund or anything, and I conceded it beat the £3.09 paid and that I understood items might have passed a best before date. I'll get over it! But... I won't be using Surprise Bags from Morrisons again, this is my third disappointing one (see my week of Magic Bags series for the otehrs if you wish) from 2 stores. I'll still use this store, I'll still use TGTG, and I will make sure to stick to Surprise Bags from the smaller Morrisons Daily stores which have been much better experiences than from the superstores.

Im certainly sticking up for Morrisons Daily Surprise Bags over the ones from the superstores. There is actually a specific difference on the descriptions of the contents between the two, and a slight variation in price as well so it might not be an entirely fair comparison, but I know which I'm sticking with!

Yeah, the contents fit the description well enough, just not the stated value. A bag of spuds on top would have covered it I reckon. Every item that showed a date was 3 days prior to the collection date. I've definitely had better bags before. Oddly the ones from Morrisons Daily (smaller stores) tend to be very good, but those from Morrisons superstores have been a bit of a let down.

We have 12 birds so most of that would get used in our house but feeding hubby and myself tgtg has had a swing and a miss! Also orange goes really well in carrot soup, especially with some ginger 😊

I really need a blender for soup purposes! I used a peeler to get very thin strips of carrot, but even though they went very soft, it's still not soup. I've had enough of carrots already! Definitely going to stick with Morrisons Daily TGTG bags rather than the superstore offerings.

Carrot and basil soup would work as well mate ive made it loads of times also your could knock up a cheese source and broccoli cheese bake with a hurb crust on top

I may attempt a carrot and coriander (plenty of powdered coriander from a previous Co-Op bag!) soup, but I don't have a blender so it might be a poor attempt. I definitely don't have freezer space for them so there may be some wastage.

I do seem to fare better selecting my own stuff in this same shop. Still haven't decided whether to complain or not, don't think it represents £10 but it's considerably more than the £3.09 paid. With other bags, it's been so far past the stated value it was ridiculous, so this one was definitely disappointing.

Where do you find the bags ? Do you have to ask for them ?

You order them via the Too Good To Go app and then head to customer services to collect them between the designated times. I think the lack of refrigeration at customer services plays a part in this being a veg only bag. In smaller stores they go round the shop and bag stuff up, so my experience is that Morrisons Daily have better bags than the full size stores do.

No, probably not too far short though. I noticed watching it back that the mysterious greens were dated 7th January as well, I know they can sell items past a Best Before date, just surprising to see it 3 days past for fresh foods for a major chain. Still deciding whether to feed it back or not, but leaning towards doing so.

Just did it while on the bus to work, we'll see what happens. It was a partial disappointment so a partial credit would suffice.
