Cherry St is in Neptune Beach. In the 70s I was growing up on Ocean Blvd near the 15th St ramp to the beach. This song takes me back in so many ways. I'm feeling 14 instead of 64.

It’s amazing to see that everyone in the comments is born in the late 80s and early 90s, reminiscing over their teenage years when they listened to these songs at the time they came out. I’m 2006 born, and having dug all the way down the pop punk rabbithole for a huge amount of time now, I have this sort of pride to be able to say in the future, that just like you guys 20 years ago, I’ll also have passionately listened to this music in my teenage years, nowadays, kind of carrying a heritage from the last generation. Even though I myself have trouble see it, there’s a whole bunch of guys like me out there. 2000s pop punk is still alive, people. It’s even reminiscing, nowadays. I also weirdly have some kind of melancolic attraction to this period, feeling you were so lucky to live during that time. Even though I don’t fully know what it was like back then, I wish so bad I could’ve been a teen at the turn of the century, skating to blink, Good Charlotte, Yellowcard, and all the pop punk crowd. The simple suburban atmosphere feels warm and reassuring, when the American Dream was still alive. All that to say, I think I feel you guys.

I remember when this song was popular, every Sunday as a kid at 12 after church I’d rush to the tv and turn on on MTV in hopes of catching “Hey ya” by Outkast and this wonderful song. One of the songs that opened my eyes to music as a young kid that never really payed attention to music or the feeling it can give you. I’m so happy this song exists so I can always come back and feel the nostalgia of being this age again.

It’s crazy how much of a different feeling I get when I listen to songs like this, and it’s not even a feeling I necessarily desire, it’s just a noticeably different feeling. Long story. I have a brother 6 years older than me and when I was 7 this song came on the radio while we were driving. I had only heard it once before on MTV so I didn’t know the verse but I remembered the chorus easily. I was mumbling through the verse my brother was like “Don’t sing the song if you don’t know the lyrics” all smug like and that exact moment the chorus hit. I got right in his face with the biggest smile I’d ever had and yelled “IF I COULD FIND YOU NOW THINGS WOULD GET BETTER!!!” and proceeded to sing the whole chorus. The satisfaction I felt that day I still remember randomly sometimes. One of my first ups on big bro. Also lucky my mom was there so I had witnesses 😎

TyronBash, punk rock was the mainstream music style in the early 2000's that rivaled pop artists like Brittany, N'Sync, BSB, etc. and gave a lot of people a great alternative music genre. Punk rock (even popular punk rock) was much better than pop and I'm very thankful for songs like this.
