Ahhh... I agree- have the LDR 5516 (light dimmer, I presume) face the FRONT! Face the front to that it can see the ambient light and dim the digits accordingly. I see many others installing this on the other side, which the board markings would lead you to believe that.

I put 5mm diffused white leds on the hour numbers and replaced the buzzer with a vibration motor
