It was still on its way down too with the snowmelt/runoff not over with yet. Yellowstone Park is pretty amazing considering how it drains the massive river systems of the Missouri (true headwaters of the Mississippi), Snake & Yellowstone.

Such an amazing fishery- Hit up Slough creek off of Lamar, Lots of grizzlies and big golden cutties in the 2nd and 3rd meadows! Caught a 24 inch cut right at the end of third meadow at the park boundry. Hoppers and streamers for the big boys!!!

I am planning on fishing Slough for the first time this summer, though I will have someone this time to fish with me. That was a little nerve wracking going off trail in Yellowstone that day alone, LOL.

I happened to be right up the road from you that day in Lamar Valley and ended up fishing the Yellowstone River the next day between the falls and Haden Valley. Was one of the best days fishing I've had. Great videos my man keep them coming

Thanks Jacob 🍻 I almost fished the Yellowstone opener in the Haden Valley area but at the last second decided against it thinking it would be too crowded. I plan on fishing that section though--from what I read it sounded like sight fishing to large wary cutthroats right?
@jacobsmith2890

That sums it up perfectly. Crystal clear water you can watch them rise to get your fly. Just have to get the right fly in front of them and yes it is true they are massive

That bell is incredibly entertaining. LOL. Thanks for taking us along on another great river. Did you see any grizzlies? Lourdes is at the edge of her seat, thinking about this. LOL
@purpledrakefishing
@purpledrakefishing 3 жыл бұрын
Didn't see any, but on the drive back there was a young one along the side of the road that I drove bear (it created a "bear jam"). People joke that it is more like a dinner bell than a warning, LOL.

@@purpledrakefishing that's crazy. Did you hear about the grizzly that ripped a lady out of her tent and killed her. They ended up capturing the bear and euthanizing it. After they euthanized it, they confirmed it was the grizzly that killed her. So insane. Be safe out there, especially when fishing solo.
@purpledrakefishing
@purpledrakefishing 3 жыл бұрын
@@flowflyfishing2131 I did read about that attack--what a nightmare. Also a fisherman was killed by a grizzly in West Yellowstone back in April. I am pretty paranoid about bears and try to limit my risk. I have had a large grizzly come running out of the woods 20 yards from me in Alaska years ago but luckily he was chasing sockeye salmon, LOL.

Beautiful big fish! 👍 Especially on a 2 weight rod! As you hike in and out, are you wearing waders and wading boots? I ask because I do a LOT of hiking to get into the less pressured streams "off the beaten path". I hike in wearing trail runners. When I get to the area where I start fishing I put on my felt wading boots and tuck my trail runners into a small backpack or fanny pack. I don't bring waders. I just fish thin wet pants that dry out quickly. The pants are dry after 15 minutes. Thank you for sharing your fishing adventure with us. 😀

Thanks SL! I was wearing my waders & boots that day on the hike in/out but normally I like to bring a pair of shoes with me and change in/out of my waders when hiking. I wasn't sure how far I was going to go down so I wore my waders--regretted it the next day; my feet were so incredibly sore! The best though would have been to wet wade but I thought the water would have been too cold (it wasn't). I did wet wade when I fished the Gardner later that day.

dumb question but i notice you have a bell, any particular reason why? assuming it has something to do with the wild life there.
@purpledrakefishing
@purpledrakefishing 3 жыл бұрын
No worries, not a bad question--It is called a bear bell and I had gotten it in Alaska where they are used a lot. I had it attached to my wader suspenders. Not sure how effective they are, but in theory they are susposed to make enough noise so that you don't startle a bear. Grizzlies tend to charge/attack if you come across one suddenly in close proximitity. Some people joke that they are a dinner bell, LOL.

Yes, was using the Rio Euro line--I accidently left my other rod back at home that I was planning on using that day. I was a little uneasy fishing that big river with the ESN but luckily it wasn't a problem.
