A guide for visiting Oak Glen, in California. A great day-trip from Los Angeles, Oak Glen is a “mile-high” desert town just 80 miles east of downtown LA with a neat rustic feel. It’s touristy, but not overly so. Oak Glen is famous for growing apples, and apple picking, but it’s a great destination year round. Oak Glen Road is a five mile scenic loop of 30+ ranches, farms and businesses. The first apple orchard opened here in 1876, the mega ranch is Los Rios Rancho.
Generally the apple season festivities start on Labor Day Weekend, but check the ranch websites for when apple picking starts… Typically go through mid November. Weekends are the most busy.
Stop by one of the many apple farms and eat some Apple Pies, Apple Dumplings, Apple Butter, Apple Bread, Apple Juice, and even more apple things! Some of our favorite farms include: Willowbrook, Riley’s, and Snow Line.
Hungry? Stop by Apple Annie’s and get the 5 pound, mile-high apple pie. And if you eat at the restaurant, the main entrees come with unlimited seconds… you eat until you aren’t hungry anymore.
