Oh, I just love the I.U. campus. It is really beautiful esp with autumn leaves. 🍂🍁

Wow, downtown has changed a lot so different when I went to IU 30 years ago. Loved seeing main gates go Hoosiers!

Though I am officially unwelcome at IU Bloomington ( being a Purdue grad we are forbidden to trespass lol ) unofficially I’ve had a lot of great times there. Very friendly people and beautiful surrounding area, including Lake Monroe and the scenic forest hills ( Indiana “mountains” )

Nice short walk around downtown Bloomington, Chris. I really enjoyed my visit there a couple years ago and found the whole area to be very hilly and scenic. My favorite building on campus is the Indiana Memorial Union. I also visited the nearby artist colony town of Nashville and Brown County State Park, both of which I also really enjoyed visiting. Are you doing a tour of all of the Big Ten cities?😊
@YellowProductions4 ай бұрын
The Memorial Union is really cool. I walked through it later. Really should've got it on camera.. oooh. A series on all the big ten cities would be cool 😎

I have never been here but have seen the classic late ‘70s cycling movie “Breaking Away” (which was set and filmed here) probably thirty times on HBO while growing up…charming place (actually reminds me a lot of the downtown areas around my Alma Mater, Syracuse University)
@Thomas116-m2n4 ай бұрын
I lived there during the early 90s while at IU. Loved it. It used to be better as they ripped down the old college apartment buildings to put up luxury condos. The downtown area was a run-down, charming, college town with dive bars and cheap apartments. Now, it looks like a wealthy suburb. Rent was $290/mo. Now? At least $1,000 per bedroom. Kirkwood! Kilroy's, Nick's., and the Sample Gates!

I used to live in Indiana and went here a lot - I'm disappointed in the number of chain restaurants that have made their way downtown though, it used to be ALL locally owned places. Did you see the Tibetan restaurant there? There used to be two of them, now I think there is one left. Also, the Lotus World Music & Arts Festival (this year it's the first weekend of October, but it's usually in late September) is a great festival to check out! I went to it for many years.
@YellowProductions4 ай бұрын
Hi K -- Yes. I ate at the Thai restaurant on the same street as the Tibetan restaurant. But yes. Only looks like one now

True…too many chains…still some locally owned but they are disappearing.

Do they have a decent bus system? i think Purdue does in West Lafayette.
@MurderMostFowl4 ай бұрын
Yes, it’s pretty good. I would say in someway as it’s better than Lafayette/West Lafayette, but only because Bloomington and IU campus are so much more integrated than Purdue is to West Lafayette. Technically the bus system up there is much larger… so it depends really what your talking talking about Weather one is better than the other. I think they’re both very nice. IU buses are free for students/staff/faculty and so is Purdue’s ( but only the campus loop busses where as IU’s are the whole city basically )

Lived here since 2011 and it's been going downhill. The city has been selling out to IU every year with the ever increasing amount of wealthy international students, becoming very bloated over the years. Too many vehicles and bikes/pedestrians/electric scooters competing in the small infrastructure and road system originally built. Expensive luxury apartments being built everywhere, pushing out the people who grew up here because only the wealthy transient transplants can afford them. Crime has gotten worse and good luck finding a job that isn't in the service, medical, or pharma industries.

Bloomington? You run out of other places to visit in the USA? lol. Ugh. Brown County might have been a better choice. Covered Bridge Festival in Parke County might be interesting if you enjoy covered bridges and eating and buying junk from the vendors.
