I'm a 48 year old African-American woman and I enjoy watching & listening to Yemi sing and proudly SHOW our African culture with pride (irregarless of subject matter). We don't have enough young & beautiful black women willing to represent heritage ; ) "Applaud her"

Thanks Yemi for showing Africa culture and been positive about it and in a good way, if people don't get it. Shame on them. Africa is great from people living in the bushes, villages to modern towns and cities in Africa, we should embrace it and stop chasing the white man fallacy hell. It has never bring us happiness but wars and separation of our people.

Chai. I read some of the comments here and I can't help but to comment again. People: forget about the Ferrari and all the designers mentioned in this song. This song has a deeper meaning that is been brought playfully. The essence of the song is that a man should not only love by words. He should go to the extreme extend to prove his love for a woman. Actions speak louder then words. He doesn't need to be rich to appreciate his woman. It's all about giving woman the place they deserve. We are often taken for granted.

I love African artists like Yemi, she tells amazing stories about mother Africa that demonstrate strength, pride and enjoyment through upbeat melodies that I think anyone can relate to. Sometimes I feel depressed because being an Black American, I dont have direct identity to Africa such as the types of tribes I would belong to or the various knowledge of languages that her people posses. Just simply listening to her music is the only connection I feel.
@ogamizulu95338 жыл бұрын
+Melyssa Washington Don't be depressed sista, create your own meaning, connections and identity. I took a Yoruba name because I liked the culture but I embrace all African cultures. You never know who could have been your long lost relative, so showing love to the whole Motherland makes me feel connected and empowered.
@okuomose18 жыл бұрын
That's a good start. You should also do a DNA test, most of African American DNA as least 70% African. Check out the African Ancestry website. Are you on Facebook?
@ogamizulu95338 жыл бұрын
I read that the DNA tests weren't 100% definitive. Maybe one day, but even if I turned out to be from a different ethnic group I'd still keep my Yoruba name because it's a part of me now and I love it. I'm not on facebook.. I'm from Canada btw.
@NEWBORNBERRY8 жыл бұрын
+Melyssa Washington you should do a dna test with ancestry.com since youre a black American you will most likely be a blend the test will give you a fair idea of which parts of Africa your ancestors come from. Ive taken a dna test and it's amazing knowlegde to have. Anyone can take one and just when you think you know your history you may not have any idea about what you will find with the test. So take some control of your destiny there are tools to help you. Let's not do the slave trade pity party anymore. Knowledge is power!

Just to clear the air, I think we are missing the whole "Ferrari" message. She's just saying "sweetheart, think bigger, dream bigger, upgrade. I would love to drive a Ferrari". The message is not supposed to scare the guy but encourage him to dream bigger dreams. As a guy if you can't afford a Ferrari at the moment, set "Ferrari" goals and she will still love you. It's all about your prospects, packaging and presentation. However, there's an exception to lackadaisical ladies.

@mamaafrica3898 жыл бұрын
It's funny you said that because from my observation, Igbos are quick to mention the Igbo ethnicity of a Nigerian artist so I hope you are also telling them that there is no point in that. Secondly, in the Nigerian culture, dual ethnicity does not exist. We are our father's children and we claim descent from our father and not both parent, so if your father is from a certain tribe, you are identified as only being a member of that tribe, regardless of your mother's ethnicity. I have a cousin who has an Efik mother (Calabar) and Igbo Father. She has an Igbo name, grew up in Calabar and speak Efik fluently, but her ethnicity is Igbo and not Efik or Efik-Igbo. If the average Nigerian is identified by their father's ethnicity, why should Yemi Alade be an exception? Thirdly, I don't see anyone having a problem with Jidenna being rrefered to as Igbo when he clearly has a white mother. So why should it be any different for Yemi Alade? Think about it 😉
